Miss my dog :/

Hmph. I've been so busy with school, work, rescue work, and trying to work things out with my boyfriend that I have seen very little of Walter. I make it a point to spend 1 night and 1 day with him, but sometimes I am doing homework and rescue stuff that I don't have much time to pay attention to him. I really miss him and feel guilty that I can't see him more.

Does anyone have any ideas for some "quality time" I can spend with Wally when I do get to see him? We always watch Leno and Conan on the couch together at night and in the morning we go for about a mile walk, but I would like some new ideas!

One of Yuki's most favorite things is taking a trip to Petco/Petsmart. If Walter associated your visits with the GREATEST thing ever then maybe all would be forgiven for any long absences.

Although maybe watching Leno does it for him.
How about some games of fetch or frisbee...brushing him while watching tv...sleeping in your bedroom. They say that if you cannot spend as much time as you would like with your dog, having them sleep in your bedroom is a great way to bond because they can smell you and see you and feel secure at night knowing you are in the same room...

Also, how about taking him in the car with you on little shopping trips, etc. I think any time you spend with him, he will think of as quality time! :) As long as he is with you.
We almost always fall asleep on the couch together, and sometimes he joins me in my bed for a few hours but he prefers to sleep in my parents bed.

Walter is a maniac and I cannot take him to PetSmart, but I think car rides are a good idea. I will take him to the park again this weekend provided its not -4 degrees!

And I think the brushing idea is a very good one. He was just shaved so he doesn't have any mats, so this could be a good time to get him reaccustomed to being groomed... who knows maybe he will even like it by the time his fur grows back 8)
Play polo!

Get Walty an Airdog Fetch stick---
and a small basketball

http://www.ferretstore.com/airdog11fets.html

The rules are -he must hold the stick
while chasing the ball down field that you have gently
kicked.

Points are off for running into Mother, or behavior unbecoming
a Polo playing sheepie (ie-dropping the polo stick while
demanding a treat in the middle of the game.)

The game is over -when Walty drops the stick, runs and
retrieves the basketball. Then holding both toys,
lies down while turning his wigglebum to you. :D

This is Bogart's favorite game and it really wears him out.

After the game all
players must stomp the divits on the polo field so the
playing field is ready for the next polo game. 8)

And give Walty a hug from us! :ghug:

You are awesome working with rescue while attending
school. Walty loves you and enjoys having fun !
zahara, that sounds like a great game! Does it come with everything you need? I didn't check out the link yet but will! Thanks  You know the saying goes, a tired dog makes for a happy dog and a happy owner :D

Hi Ashley,

You need to get the small basketball separately. It is a great
game! We have afternnoon tea after the match.
Bogart gets water and a special treat (bacon and cheese treat
from Old Mother Hubbard).

Give it a try ! :D
extra hugs and kisses never hurt!!
I see some great ideas....
Crumpet was my car companion sheepdog. She loved to go everywhere with me. For a treat we'd go thru McDonald's drive thru.....basic cheeseburger for her, I'd snatch the pickle first. She loved her cheeseburgers.

First sheepdog, Maudie, was our Dairy Queen dog. We'd go on Saturday night and get her a cup. She'd sit in the back and put her head between the two front seats and eat her ice cream. The regulars learned to watch for us. All we had to say was "DQ" and she'd fly to the car.

I'm not saying feed your dog fast food  but if you take her on car trips, finish them off with something special....for us it was food. Perhaps for you it will be an excited romp around the park.
