Help! I don't know what to do! Vets are closed!

I found a bald spot on Clayden's left shoulder a few days ago. When I adopted him about a month ago, I already noticed the hair was particularly short in that area. At that time, I thought it was just because he was not a professionally groomed, as it was the rescued group who gave him a bath and shave him in their center.

A month went by, his hair grew longer but not that patch of hair. A few days ago, I found out there was a wound/bald spot developed on that patch. The next day, I took him to my vet for a check up. My vet scrapped some skin off that wound to look under the microscrope but he didn't find any mite. He told me to leave him in the clinic the next morning for more scrapping and dip. I did as I was told.

Last Friday, I dropped Clayden off at the vet in the morning and my husband picked him up after work. Clayden seemed to be fine but he looked like very tired, not as playful as usual and he didn't eat much too. I thought he was just upset before left in the vet for a whole day.

Just now, my husband gave me Clayden's bill from the vet for filing. When I looked at the bill, I found that they gave Clayden a rabies shot. I was horrified! Clayden has already had his rabies shot on 11/30 when he was in the Animal Shelter. When I first got Clayden, I took him to my vet for a general check up and I gave my vet all his medical history records. He got to have a copy of the rabies shot cert which said it is good for a year. And he really should have asked for my consent before giving him any shots or any additional treatments

Clayden is only 6 months old and is given 2 Rabies shots only 3 months apart. Is there something I need to do right away? He is not showing any major sign of warnings. He is just not as playful as normal. However, I am still worried something bad is working inside his body and I need to take action fast before it is too late.

My vet is closed today and tomorrow. I cannot reach them until Tue. I am so worry!!!

Can anyone help me?

Hi!
Don`t worry about the rabies shot. Here in Scandinavia we gi them one with 3 months of age and then one 30 days later.

Lene
We had a rescue dog recently that we were unsure if he'd had a rabies vaccination. Our vet said it was not harmful to double vaccinate for rabies if in doubt.

Sounds more like a possible thyroid or adrenal problem (cushings) with the thinning hair problem. Please check with your vet. If you don't get an acceptable explanation, find another vet.
Thanks Lene.

Guess I am being a bit paranoid... I am the kind of mom who would poke the puppy to see if it is still alive when I see him sleeping for too long

I don't know if there are different kind of rabies shots. Both rabies vaccination certs this vaccination is good for one year. I read from the internet and another post in Behavior forum that rabies vac can have bad effects on dogs.

There was also another incident that made me this worry. Clayden has always been very good with the cats. Yesterday, I was sitting in the living room and out of a sudden, I heard a painful scream from the kitchen. I leaped up and flew to the kitchen. I saw Cladyen and the cat all at the same spot...my tabby boy cat ran from the spot with a bleeding nose. Clayden looked stunned. I ran after my cat and found that a chunk of his nose almost got bitten off! My cat was raised with the dogs since he was 2 months old. The dogs love the cats and this cat is particularly very friendly with the dogs. He would never challenge for a fight and is never ready put up a fight when a dog approaches.

When this happened, I didn't find out about the shot yet. I thought it probably was Clayden's usual pretenious puppy snap got out of hand. He was trying to play snap with the cat but the cat didn't react like the dogs would...avoid the snap and snap back...etc.

But now...putting 2 and 2 together...could the over vaccinations made him agressive?

I know I should not be paranoid but I also want to be careful.

If anything went bad with Clayden, I would go after my vet to the end of the world :x

Clayden's mom with the hair on the back of her neck standing up
Thanks Nita.

I will wait for the test result from the vet and if he can't find anything, I am going to take him to another vet for a second opinion.

Thanks again for your reply. Now I can take a deep breath and relax.

Gigi,
I don't think you have an emergency. Two shots three months apart may not be necessary but I don't think it will be a major problem. Especially when you are not seeing any distressing physical signs like vomiting, lethargic, swelling, etc. If you do see these signs, call a 24 hour emergency clinic if the Vet is closed. There should be one somewhere in your area. I always suggest everyone know where and the number of their closest emergency center...

I was paranoid too with the shots. After reading all the controversial articles, etc, how can you not be! But you know they've been giving rabies shots for a million years :) I'm sure he'll be fine...
Gigi,
If you feel it's an emergency, you could take him to Animal Emergency Clinic on Ramon Rd in Thousand Palms, they are open from 5pm until 8 am.
