Crock Pot Chicken

Does anyone have a good recipe for chicken in the crock pot? I have a whole chicken, cut up, that I need to use. I want to do the crock pot so it can be ready when I get home. I can eat and still have plenty of time for walks. :)

I know y'all always have great suggestions, so I figured I'd ask here first.

put your chicken in the crock pot...dump a package of italian dressing..(powdered stuff)...since your chicken isnt frozen add a touch of water... cook for a few hours on medium...one hour before serving add mushrooms, onions and a block of cream cheese.....serve over rice....
Sounds good....not enough water to cover the chicken? how much is a touch?
if you use frozen chicken breasts, you dont add any water...so id say about 1/2 cup or so...
Yum, that sounded good! Of course you could just add a heaping cup or two of spaghetti type sauce, 1/4-1/2 cup red wine. Cook like above then add sauteed mushrooms. Serve along side, not over pasta.......pass the cheese.
That sounds good, too, Susan. :D

Okay...grocery list...mushrooms, Italian dressing, cream cheese...
One easy one: chicken and BBQ sauce. that's it.

Also something with veggies:

skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1 medium head cabbage, quartered
1 pound carrots, cut into 1" pieces
chicken stock to cover
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon Greek-style seasoning
1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
***
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup broth

Rinse chicken and place in slow cooker. Rinse cabbage and place on top of chicken, then add carrots. Add enough water to almost cover all. Add chicken broth/stock to almost cover and sprinkle liberally with poultry seasoning. Add Greek seasoning to taste (as you would salt and pepper). Cook on low for 8 hours OR on high for 4 hours.

To Make Gravy: When you're nearly ready to eat, pour off some of the juice and place in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Dissolve cornstarch in about 1/4 cup water (depending on how thick you like your gravy). Add to saucepan and simmer all together until thick. If desired, season with additional Greek seasoning. Serve gravy over chicken and whatever side you may come up with.......potatoes, pasta would be fine.

Actually potatoes quarters could do into the crock pot too!
my fav..

6 chicken breasts (whole would work shredded though)
1 can condensed chicken
1 can condensed mushroom
1 can condensed cheese
bag of frozen chopped broccoli

cook 6-8 hrs

add bag of frozen chopped broccoli 1 hr before ready

add 8oz can sour cream before serving

serve over rice
spectacular!!
You guys are making me hungry - and it's the middle of the night!
I need to come back and make some of these :) .
Okay - let's go home and see how this chicken turned out.
which recipe did you use??????
I believe she said she went to the store to get your ingredients! It DOES sound good. I copy lots of recipes everyone posts!
I did use your recipe, Darcy and it was delicious!! :D

I copied down Susan's and Jo's too for next time. I'm going to try to do this once a week so I can have at least one good home cooked meal.

Jo- with your recipe, it sounds like I need to cook the chicken prior to putting it in the crock pot. Is that correct? :?
ps....i didnt tell you this Tammy, but this is my quick and easy version of a southern chicken casserole...lol... I have a Tenessee cookbook that I adapted...and switched to the crockpot....

Im glad my southern belle friend approves!

xo
Yep! Ya did good!! :clappurple:
Okay, so I'm a crockpot newbie...

I'm scared of just putting frozen chicken in a crockpot without any water. If I am to do the crockpot thing, most likely it'll have to be started at 8:30 am and left until 6pm. I'm scared the chicken would burn up...

Help me understand!
No, I use uncooked chicken breasts!

Barney, I had trouble understanding that too and would always check on my chicken because I'd get worried. Glad I started off by cooking delicious chili or stews! I think it seals in the moisture so it can cook forever and never get burnt, but there does need to be some sort of liquid in there (whether it be canned soup, from the frozen chicken, etc).
The chicken I used was only partially thawed and I just sprinkled the seasoning on it and left it. As it defrosted, there was plenty of water for it to cook in.

Glad to know that your recipe starts from raw chicken, Jo. I was afraid I'd have to cook it and shred it first.

What I used last week was still on the bone, too, Steph, and by the time I was ready to eat it, it literally fell right off the bone. So, easy!!

I love crock pot cooking.
yeah i think bone in chicken wouldn't work as well as boneless chicken breasts for my recipe. glad to know darcy's recipe was good. i'm going to try it next time.
Way too busy lately. Darcy your chicken recipe saved us from another pizza order last night. Your recipe gets a thumbs up :yay: from Utah.
