Shedding

I am planning on getting an OES and in doing my research I've read that they are non-shedding. But when I have visited breeders I have left with hair on me. Do you guys find a lot of hair in your house and on you?
thanks

Look at it this way, if you had long hair, and wore a sweater or jacket all day, at the end of the day, would you find any strands on it? Now imagine if you had hair over your entire body... would there be more strands on your jacket at the end of the day (from the hair from your back, stomach, and arms, ..along with your head). That's kind of how sheepdogs shed.

Someone just asked this question here:

Is there a chance that the hair left on you was from a carpet, couch, or something else you rubbed up against that hadn't been vacuumed in a long time? There could be some extra strands on you too if the breeder wanted to impress you (or represent her dogs well), and brushed them before you came over and some extra loose strands fell on you. Bad breeding can also result to some heavy shedding, I hear...
Kirsten,

The issue of OES being a non-shedding breed comes up fairly frequently and I can understand you wandering why they are refered to as non-shedding when, as you have experienced, their hair does get on you and almost all surfaces in the house. I have posted to the two threads referenced below and think that they will clarify things for you.

If you ever experience a true shedding breed you will immediately understand the practical differences. In our pack we have far more trouble with Gidget's hair (a Chihuahua) than we do with the Bobtails and Afghan Hounds.

Hope this helps and that you don't let a bit of hair stop you from eperiencing the joy that these guys can bring into our life. The solution to almost all hair issues is thorough and regular grooming - another topic dear to my heart!!

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
Kristen after being owned by 2 gsds and 3 sheepies (all at different times )I can truly say sheepies do not shed near as much as shepherds :D
They shed less than our min pins, rat terrier, basset and labs!
