Rescue of approx. 200 horses (Video)

Around 200 horses got stuck on a small island for days after a heavy storm. People feared for the lives of many horses!
First firemen, then the Dutch army, tried to rescue them - both unsuccessfully. So 4 WOMEN on horseback rode out to the rescue. Here's a video of it.

Very cool. Leave it to women to figure out a simple solution. Their horses are what we call "bomb proof" meaning nothing fazes them. I wish Bob were more like that.
Cool..... and of course the women could figure it out
Horses can swim, it just took a little encouragement to get them to do it.
^^^

Very Cool!!! :)
VERRY VERRY COOL

I love the prancing gait the horses were using...
Ron, the "prancing" gait is the trot. In this trot, the horses were picking their legs up very high and slowly. Dressage riders would call that a "passage."
I have to say that was beautiful and quite touching to watch. :D
I used to ride (western) occasionally many moons ago. I remember exactly 4 gaits: Walk, trot, canter and gallop.

I remember walk as having a slight side-to-side sway, trot as being quite roung, canter as being surprisingly poweful badabum[pause], badabum[pause]. I'm not sure I ever rode at a full gallop. I got up to a really fast canter at lesat, but I never detected a change in the gait into gallop which (if I recall correctly) was described as a two-part sensation.

I will say I recall being quite frightened at a fast canter, especially since this was trail riding, and being tall and on the largest horses I was getting whacked in the face and going around corners and holding on for dear life.

So is my memory correct? I'd love to be around horses a little bit, but I think I'm way too big to ride anymore. I feel sorry for the horses watching them carry adults as it is.
Ok I'm a complete sap. Brought tears to my eyes. Women and Horses:1, Men and boats: 0
Ron, you are correct about the gaits. Western riders call a canter a lope and it is slower than a canter. Still a 3 beat gait though. Walk is 4 beats, trot is 2 beats, canter/lope 3 beats and I don't know what a gallop is because it is used only in racing (or if your horse is terrified and running back to the barn).

The rhythm of each gait should always remain the same, even if the tempo changes.
:D Wow! That was a great video and so good to see a happy ending. My horse is an Arabian, now a respectable 24 in retirement in the Okanagan. My barn is very well run, by a woman of course and there are two of my frineds looking after him for me. One grooms and rides him and the other feeds him.(I'm going to visit this weeked!) He isn't fond of water or mud but I suspect he would have gone along with the herd in a similar circumstance. Good hay is a top priority with him as well as apples and carrots.
Nice video - soooo many horses on one little island.
That made me cry. Such beautiful creatures. I'm so happy that they were rescued.
That was fantastic. As I watched, it made me think of Moses and the parting sea! It was a blessing watching that video. Thanks for sharing.

:D :D How nice. They looked so happy when they reached dry land. Thanks for sharing. :D :D
Here's a question Paula can probably answer: the weather in northern MI has been brutal, this morning was -2 with horrid winds. There are lots of horses up here who seem to live outside (no barn) and have no blankets on to keep warm. Wouldn't they freeze to death after several weeks? I always feel so sorry for them :(
How can i get a copy of the horse video to play on my big screen.....DVD
