What's Wrong With This Picture?

So....the heater in my van died a couple weeks ago. As luck would have it this is when we've been hit by the worst storms of the century for our area. Luckily no more snow but sunny weather in the afternoons. Yet in the mornings the frost is very thick ...aka my windsheld. Not only frozen on the outside..but the inside as well! Yikes the entire extended van needs window scrapping on the outside as well as in. Sigh I had a new heater core installed less than 3 years ago and think it was couple hundred.

I arrive every morning at work with blue lips I swear! Scrapping the ice off that big van and with areas I can barely reach, even with those long scrappers. I stand on tiptoes and try to reach the middle of the front windshield. Worst is the inside where I have to get on one of the seats in order to get the angle right, to scrape, while the frost floats down and covers me. BRRRRRRR! Then off I go to work...frozen hands and now damp clothes..no heat.

Yes I got smart and covered the front van windows with cardboard not caring what anyone thinks anymore, as that saves me some time in the mornings. Can't bring it in the garage as that's stuffed full of various new flooring waiting to be installed, my tools and of course three couches. Ha Ha!

Now I know what you're thinking..why don't I get it fixed. I kept hoping the weather was changing and there's that gasket that's now leaking which is going to need fixing. Come to think of it..when it came down to Panda ..didn't want to spare any expenses, same with Merlin , Panda..so how come I'm so stubborn when it comes to me?

Well you should get it fixed for Panda and the rest. Leaking antifreeze is a pet health hazard, as is a frozen mother.
I agree with Ron. Fix it for the dogs! :D
Think about it, if you get really sick from being so cold ... who is going to care for all your babies, and write bios for those animals at the shelter.

I vote that you get the heater fixed.
Ditto... LOL Sheesh Marianne
Cause your you and you have a big heart for the babies :D

Time to get the car fixed, without that how are you going to go and get the dog, kitty, bunny, guinea pig etc etc etc food.
  Oh, I recognise this. :D Everything for the dogs.....The dogs need a happy mother though. Just fix it. And as Ron wrote - this stuff (antifreeze), if it is leaking out of your car, is dangerous to dogs. It taste sweet and interesting, but it is very toxic.

:phew: I wish someone could keep my wallet locked every time I enter a petshop..... 8) 8)
You're a nut, Marianne! Get that heat fixed. It's miserable riding around like that!
If it's the heater core, you can usually get one for cheap at a salvage yard. Then you only have to pay a shop to install it. :D
Yup going to have to do that soon...another thing on the "need to get list". :D

Luckily it's not anti-freeze as I'm fanatical about that stuff every spilling over anywhere near my place. I always lay stuff underneath the car when adding anti-freeze and then scrub the concrete just in case even the tiniest drop has spilt. As even a miniscule amount can kill a pet and posters are right it taste sweet to pets.
Stopped at Mr. Lube 2 wks ago to have fluids topped up and checked. I know how to do that myself but couldn't manage to remove power steering thingie to add more fluid..when I couldn't leave it any longer I did decide to "splurge" and have them do it. I did develope more muscles however, when trying to steer the beast with little power steering. Ha!

Mr Lube guys were the ones to discover that the gasket on my transmission is bleeding..think that's the terminology they used. So that's next on my list and then will get heater fixed. LOL might be spring by then!

I knew how to dabble on my car when I drove the Fiero as I belong to a Fiero club but alas no demand for Old Beat Up Van clubs!

Praying I pass Air Care (this is mandatory in Canada yearly) in order to renew insurance for the year and it's due Feb 24. So gasket needs fixing first...then heater. Working heater wouldn't count in emissions rating test.

Need that van for my boys..as they couldn't fit all at the same time in the little sports car. :? It's only a two seater and Panda and Merlin would complain about being on the roof while I drove.
So new vehicle goes on my wish list for "someday" but crossing fingers, eyes and legs this van last at least a little while longer. It's a great couch mover too!
