This gorgeous boy is being offered for only $20.00. I worry if the fee is low the dog won't be valued. Can anyone help this boy? sue

Hi,

I checked the shelters website and am amazed at the low cost for any pet. Here's the site which explains the cost. I wonder if people forfeit their 25 dollars for spay/neuter and the 10 for rabies? As explained on the site below.

Crossing my fingers someone helps this boy

I spoke with Animal Control yesterday and they have to hold Dudley until I THINK she said the 8th or 9th?? because he was a stray. I asked if they had many people interested in him and she said that he had a great first day appearance on PetFinder. She was confident he'd be safe. The ones they have the most difficulty finding homes for are all the Beagles and the poor black dogs that usually get adopted last :(

She said if anyone is interested they can call AC and ask to be added to their list of potential adopters.

He is a cutie ! I hope he finds a nice home. Black dogs are the last adopted, black male dogs are at the bottom of the list :( Black Labs and Black German Shepherds are put down all the time. I have a black male lab that would have been gone . He is the best ever. If I could ...I would adopt several black dogs but my place is full...
Can someone please explain why people don't want to adopt black dogs? I just don't get it.
I don't get it either !!But that is what stats show. Maybe they are afraid of big...black dogs?? Someone else may have a more sound answer. It is just sad.........
I don't know why either, but the same is true for black cats. They are the last adopted :( .
I can't understand it either... I've got one all black poochie too. And WHAT a character she is! http://www.oesusa.com/AboutU522.jpg

This problem is referred to as Black Dog Syndrome. Maybe they don't stand out as much at first glance when there are other color patterns to choose from. People only need to spend a little time with them to discover their beauty and charm but they need to get past the packaging. Meesha's black coat glistens in the sunshine after she's been well brushed.

When I last visited the local shelter they had several black lab-mixes. :(

:) I believe that Black Dog Syndrome can be traced back to medieval times and probasbly earlier when black dogs were associated with Satan who was supposed to take the form of a black dog to roam the earth. The Sherlock Holmes story, The Hound of the Basklervilles was based on this superstition or old belief. The term "Hell Hound" is also related to the same notion.
I was just e-mailed a message about Dudley and asked to cross-post:

Can anyone spring this dog?????
No one took him yet? Anybody who knows more, PM me. If he's in danger, I can probably go get him this weekend. Problem is, I can't keep him.

It will officially be the furthest trip I have ever taken in Michigan if I go!
I can also pick him up. I have Friday off. If he needs to get out sooner I can probably do it because I don't work until 3p.m. I work all day Saturday.
I have the same problem as Jill......I can't keep him.
I'll do what I can.
Laurie
I just called and was told that they have to hold him until this Friday. I put my name on the list. I think I'm #7. They are open Mon -Fri 11-5 and closed on Sat. He said special arrangements could be made for Sat.
He said Dudley looked to be about 2 years old.
Laurie
Dudley is a handsome boy and I think it's great that there are fellow forum peeps that always care enough to get involved...I love that!!
:ghug:

P.s. I wonder what's with the $20.00... I don't know if I read wrong in an earlier post, but that seems a little odd...no?

Michelina~
No, he's up in the boondocks. A lot of adoption fees are really low up there because they just want to get rid of the dog. They likely don't spay or neuter but might make you sign a contract that you will do it within a certain period of time.

Jill, Reed City is about 120 miles from my part of the boonies, probably way farther for you. I could pick him up but have no place to keep him :( If anyone has any ideas please throw them out so this cute guy can get a great home.
I just spoke with AC a few minutes ago and the man said they have about 15 people waiting to adopt him. :D
WOO WOO!!!

Is that Kaytee in your Avatar..?? She looks GREAT!!!

Michelina~
Hey Michelina :D
How the heck are you?

Yup, Kaytee's found a way to play with our crabby-don't-you-DARE-invade-my-space Schip-mix. She's actually the only one that can and they play just about every evening. It's rather funny to watch.

Soooo, now for the real question...
What flavor tea today? :D
Jaci
L O L!! Haven't had tea in a few weeks but the last time I had it, it was peppermint.... Celestial Seasonings!!
My new thing is cold green tea by Arizona Iced Tea.

Kaytee looks amazing. You did really good with her....Obviously there is a lot of love in that house!!!

Michelina~
You must be working EXTRA hard to forget your TEA!
And thanks for your kind words about Kayt... she is adored. :D
Jaci
AC said this morning that Dudley was adopted on Sunday. :D
Yay for Dudley!
