Tomorrow is the "BIG" day - UGH!

Tomorrow I'm having my colonoscopy. :excited:

Everyone tells me, that it's really nothing. And...I'm sure its going to be fine...intellectually that is. But emotionally, I'm a wreck!!!

Today is my "cleansing" day. How did I get myself into this??????

The only saving grace is that I have this afternoon and tomorrow off.

Oh...did I mention that last night our powder room toilet handle broke???

Please keep thinking "OM" for me, to help me relax about all of this!!!!

At least...I should have a great weigh in at Weight Watchers Saturday!

Hee hee.....

Q: Why won't the doctor call you today?

A: Because he'll look up your number tomorrow.
Deb,

My son just had one, he said the worst part was the cocktail. The test was a breeze. Turn out he just had a couple of internal hemorhoids and was given some medicine to heal them. Hope all goes well (or should I say "Hope everything comes out OK!")
You'll be fine Deb, it's a piece of cake. Drinking the liquid solution is the worst part. You won't feel a thing during the procedure, and you'll be starving afterward.

Lucky me, since my mom had colon cancer, I get to have one every 5 years! :yay:
You'll be just fine. This is one procedure that everyone makes a big deal out of, I think because it involves butts and that's something to get silly over. (hehe, she said "butts.") The worst part is not being able to eat. Because, you know, we live to eat!
I had my "over 50" screening done last year about this time. The prep is absolutely the worst part. The colonoscopy itself was a breeze, just be sure to tell them you want LOTS OF DRUGS. I went to sleep with the covers tucked under my chin, woke up with the covers tucked under my chin and as far as I'm concerned NOTHING happened inbetween!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't this the 'procedure' you had done at your own work...and you were concerned about all your coworkers having a 'hand' in your wellbeing?

Oh, and good luck Deb! I'm sure you'll be fine (she says with hopefully MANY years before I have to have one!)
   yes, but they were all SWORN TO SECRECY!!!!!!!!I suspect I may have gotten an extra dose of sedation (it pays to be an insider) BUT as far as I'm concerned what I don't know NEVER HAPPENED!!!
Then the rumors of the micro tattoo might be true? 8O

My grandma had colon cancer so my family doctor informed me at this year's checkup that I will have to start getting them someday too. I can't remember when... maybe when I'm over 30 or 40???

Either way, I don't currently know exactly what it is... and I don't think I want to know for now. I'd prefer to live in blissful ignorance for another 5 years at least...

:yay:
Good luck Deb!!

My sister had one done last yr....and she said the same thing as Ginny...ask for a LOT of drugs!!
Twilight my tookus, tell them to knock you out! At least that's what I've heard from patients that we've had.

Remember, it's all just a means to an end. Oooohhh, sorry.
Yup, you want your level of sedation to be a hairs breadth above not breathing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My pun for the day....

Since I will drinking my "cocktail" at noon, I think I'll have a crappy afternoon!!!

(ouch!)
Just be sure you have plenty of SOFT TP on hand!!
Chug chug chug!!! Get down every last drop!

Best of luck with everything down there! :D
Happy prepping this afternoon. :D :D
BTW, did you get the toilet handle fixed 8O ?? You're going to need it! 8)

Don't get too far from the bathroom, and don't wear anything with too many buttons or zippers. I've had it done, and I agree that the cleansing is the worst part. The rest is over pretty quickly.
Just out of a nurse's curiousity....... what did they give you for your prep??? There are several types out there to choose from, so I was just a bit curious :) .
Deb, this is the time when you need a laptop and a wireless modem!
Dawn...I took 1.5 oz of Phospho-soda with 1/2 glass of Gatorade at noon, and will repeat at 10 pm.

Ugh...gotta go
Oh, they didn't give you that "Go-Lightly" gallon to drink? That is the nastiest stuff ever!
You guys are scaring the crap out of me and I'm not even having it done. UGH! 8O Sounds awful! 8O

Good luck, Deb! 8)
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!

It all went well. I was NOT asleep during the proceedure, but it was just fine.

The Doc was really nice, as were all the nurses.

When I got home, I slept for about 4 hours. I'm still pretty sleepy, but I'm sure by tomorrow I will be A-Ok!!!

Oh yea...afterward, I ate 3 egg mcmuffins and a hash brown...that's 17 weight watcher points, but I really needed them!!!!!!

Thank for all of your support!
Mine is a month from today. I guess we all need a good spring cleaning everyone in awhile.
I guess it kinda looks like a spring...

Glad it went well, Deborah!

We used to call it "Go Quickly" in nursing school.

Glad you did great with the test Deb! :cheer:
Glad it all "came out OK" !

I think the phospho-soda is way easier than the jug of Golytely! I feel so mean making my patients drink it. The never ending jug.....
I hope when my time comes I can vote for my prep of choice!!
Glad everything went well Deb. Now you can relax until Sunday when you get to root for the Bears in the Super Bowl. :P
The phospho-soda was nasty...BUT! it was only 1.5 oz mixed with gatorade. So, it was possible to take it all in 10 big gulps.

The Doc said, he had prescribed it about 35,000 times. Last year was his turn to have a colonoscopy...he said he was NOT prepared for how nasty it was! Then he sheepishly apolgized to me :)

OH CORRECTION TO EARLIER POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ate 2 egg mcmuffins, not 3!!!! Whew...I had to say that, cuz I'm leaving for my weigh in now!
Deb,

I hope the results were all negative.
Yeah Deb! I'm glad that overall it wasn't that bad!
Glad everything went o.k. See, it wasn't as bad as you thought! Don't worry about the Egg McMuffins--bet you won't gain any weight from them. Your body needed nourishment.
Glad you "made it throug". Sorry you weren't asleep, it's much more pleasant tpo SLEEP through!!!!!!!!!!
George, Doc said everything looked real good. He did find (and removed) 2 polyps, which I guess isn't a surprise for someone my age.

All in all, it was a most excellent report!!!!

Thanks!
I'm glad it went well. Poor thing! I definitely don't want to have one done!

I've heard many times that having a colonic done beforehand helps you prepare for the biggie!

I've had colonics done and hilarious stories to go along w/it!!! Most people would say they are easy breezy.. many people sleep through it... but not me!!! 8O
Sounds like everything came out OK. :D
