An everyday hero

Guinness and I recently attended a World of Pets Expo. We were there with a group known as pets on wheels. We are a group that takes our pets into hospitals, schools, long term care facilities, rehab etc. The organizer of this event contacted us and ask if our pets would like to participate in the Parade of Heros. I really could not see why they would want us in that parade with the working canines, such as the search and rescue dogs. I mentioned to someone that my dog is not a hero he just an every day dog that that does what dogs do, give unconditional love. I think of a hero as a dog that rescued someone from a burning building or tracked a criminal. She said to me , he is an every day hero, going into the lifes of others, giving his time to be cuddled and hugged on. That unconditonal love is what makes him a hero. Well...as we were in the ring with the service and search and rescue dogs,I was honored to carry the United States Flag for my group, the crowd was clapping and cheering and Guinness thought they were all clapping just for him!! He pranced and wiggled his butt!! I thought he might misbehave a little because of the large group and I had a rather large flag. He stayed right next to me and was a perfect example of what an every day hero should be. Guinness was headed to the local pound when I picked him up. It just goes to show what an unwanted dog can do if given a chance. :hearts:

Hi,

I don't usually write anything in the mornings as I'm always rushing off to work and only have time to read. Your story caused my eyes to well up. What a wonderful way you put it - Yes I agree Guiness is a hero and so are you for giving him a second chance.

Thanks for posting this.

What a wonderful story! Guiness is hero! And I agree that you, too are a hero.

I think each dog can be hero. Even if its just being a good friend to a lonely person, who has no one else.

Dogs are one of the greatest gifts we have!!!

GO GUINESS!!!!!!
I'm very proud of both of you! :hearts:
Woohoo Guinness!~ :)
That is just awesome! Good boy Guinness!!

DITTO!!!!!!!!!
Sheepies are such Hams. Of course he thought they were clapping for him. Who else could they possibly be clapping for? These are the most social dogs I have ever come into contact with; they absolutely love people.
That is fantastic. Good for you Guiness!
Yay Guiness! :D :D
That is so cool that you & Guinness were honored that way! Give Guinness a big old hug from us!
There were more "everyday hero's" there than Guinness and I. Our whole group was there ,including a cat!!!! Thank you all for the kind comments. It is fun to do. The facility we go to just loves Guinness. The staff, family members and the residents, make us feel so welcome. I believe I could just leave Guinness and he would go from room to room by himself. There was one resident that told me she only liked "little"dogs but thanked me for what we were doing. The next week she said well maybe just come in for a bit and now she looks for us!! We go every tuesday and even sit with a group of ladies while thay make blankets for the Linus project. When I told them I always wanted to learn to knit they offered to teach me and said make sure you bring Guinness. So it is as much fun (maybe more) for us as it is for the residents. The dogs don't need special training just be well behaved and loving.Guinness is well behaved there but boy you should see him pester his fur brother and sister 's at home!!
It takes a special kind of dog AND handler to do what you and Guinney do!

Guinness a wonderful dog who deserves to strut his stuff up there with the "action hero" dogs.

Anyone (2 or 4 legged) who has the courage and compassion to bring joy to people are heroes in my eyes! :ghug:
I am so proud for both of you. What an accomplishment for both of you.
Rock On Guinness :clappurple:
Congratulations :clappurple: :clappurple:
Yay Guiness :cheer: That is what we hope to accomplish with Murphy, taking him into hospitals to cheer up anyone who may need it, Guiness is truly an inspiration for my dogs :hearts:
Kudos to you and Guinness for bringing smiles to peoples faces. :clappurple:
Way to go!!!
