skunked (again)

Ahhhh, the sweet (?) smell of skunk juice in the early morning air!
The kids were sleeping peacefully on their beds when the youngest, Samantha, decided that she should go outside at 5:30 am. Naturally, the rest of the zoo went with her through the pet door to see what they could see.
As luck would have it, a family of skunks were in an early morning trasit of our back yard. (Note to urban dwellers: Critters have the right of way in rural areas.)
We have been training Sam on how to be true to her roots of herding. However, we did not imagine that she would practice at 5:30 am with a 'herd' of skunks.
Bottom line: I've just completed a three-dog wash with Dial soap and SnowyCoat and all three are kissing sweet (until next time).
Now the hall and bedroom awaits de-scenting...

Have a good day everyone....

Oh, my!

Jean, I do not envy you at all! I never thought about a dog door allowing the dogs to run out and socialize with stinky vistors!

We went through that once, and the smell gets into the furniture, curtains, carpets! I feel so bad for you......

But glad you were able to get the furballs all cleaned up, so they are all huggable again!
Oh my, one is bad enough, but all 3 dogs getting skunked! 8O
Phew :D
8O Oh, what a "smelly"story.
Oh Jean, I am so sorry for what you have been thru this morning. :(
That just STINKS
There is something awfully smelly about that story.
What a Stinka, glad no critters like that in Australia. I can't imagine what the smell would be like. Is it hard to remove the odour? :?

Like Pepe La Pew on the cartoons, so I'll just stick to that one skunk on TV. 8)
Removing skunk juice is not difficult - just fragrant. The trick is to get it washed out right away and not let the 'oil' set in the skin and fur. We find that liquid Dial soap works best.
The really nasty part is if the dog gets some in the mouth...then their breath smells of skunk for several days. Just what you need in a sheepie hug. lol.
Oh Simm!!!

All I can think of was .."whazzat? skunk? OMG! That stuff usually happens to me!" I can't imagine what you had to go through as I only recently smelled skunk a few weeks ago and it made me gasp. To bathe 3 dogs - you are a miracle worker!!

A few weeks ago, my sister and I were driving along a country road when we smelled the most wicked thing I've ever inhaled. Dead skunk on the road. Being the animal lovers we are (my sister more than me in this case). She decides to get newspaper and drag the poor thing off the road. She gets back in the car and all I smelled was skunk..eyes watering, gasping for fresh air, anyhow..just couldn't imagine having to live with 3 shaggy beast with that smell. You are amazing and shows what we would do for our furkids.

You have my sympatheties and of course a bit of a chuckle as I think perhaps you and I share the same genes somewhere in our line.

You have all my sympathy :!: Especially with the house de-scenting 8O

The first time I had to deal with deskunking, I was told to use vinegar to cut the oil. I rinsed both dogs in vinegar and shampooed twice. I was pleased with the results, until I put the dogs in the car to run errands. When I opened the car door, after a quick trip into the market, I was overcome with the smell of pickled skunk dog :twitch:
