Breed Guess?!

Can anyone help me out on guessing this guy's breed and approximate age? :?: He looks like he's at least part Sheepie to me ... I am currently looking into rescuing him. :!:

My husband and I both say yes, he looks to be part sheepie. He is so beautiful. I wouldn't know where to even start guessing age, if I could see his teeth, I could better guess.
I think it is wonderful that you are thinking of rescuing him. I wish you and him all the luck. Please keep us informed and I would love to see more pictures, he is really adorable.

The kill shelter where he is held is guessing over 4 months ... and they are calling him a terrier mix. ??? I am hoping to hear back from the shelter people soon! I am getting nervous. :( He has a little time as he was a stray. Owner surrenders get put down first. So sad ... he's way down south and I am in Minnesota, so I am trying to find transport for him. Poor guy!
How cute! It's hard to know - without knowing how big he is. If I were to guess, I'd say he had some sheepie in him. Also - I recently saw a Havanese who looked just like that but much smaller.

It's one of those dogs that you pick the breed you like best! LOL Sometimes these "Best Guess Breeds" make the best pets in the world!
I hope you are able to rescue this little guy! Keep us posted!

Maybe there's someone on the Forum who could help with transportation???

What part of the South is he in?
I am curious too. If each of those bricks behind him are 6 inches, then he's less than 18 inches tall.
Also, if he is only 4 months, he doesn't have a lot of sheepie in him because he doesn't have much pink in his nose.
He has blue eyes or they used too bright of a flash (or both). Ask if they have tested his hearing and eyesight.
His face looks very sheepie. Wish they had given you a side view and a picture of his teeth. If they are saying four months, then he must be teething?
After just adopting what the shelter called a Chesapeake Bay Retriever from out local shelter I would have to tell you that guessing what breeds might make up this dog can go on for months. We really are not sure ours has any Chesapeake Bay Retriever in him at all, but he's a definite character. This is the 2nd time we have adopted from the shelter, and the 2nd dog that zooms out of the yard or house at every chance. But this one comes back to me or my husband. Not for the kids though? Abbi loves to run him down and get down on him for leaving. Weirdest thing I have ever witnessed.
It does look like an adorable pup. Ask if it has ever had mats. No mats, then it probably is not sheepie. But who cares. It is adorable.

Not all sheepies have pink noses when they are pups. Some are black from the first day of birth.

However, funny you mention the hearing/eyesight - I thought the same thing looking at his coloring!

WOW! Awsome observation! I TOTALLY missed that one! He is pretty small then.
I think I WANT to see Sheepie in him! In reality, it doesn't matter what he is -- he's one of those that are haunting me.

Betsy, I feel SO STUPID! When I saw the name of the shelter, I presumed it was in Mississippi!! He is in Michigan which isn't as far. I've tried calling the shelter all day and can't get in touch with a live person. No one has returned my call ... I don't want to leave a million messages as I don't want to annoy them when I know they must be busy. I just don't want him to be put down if he has a chance!

I thought the same thing -- with all that white and light eyes. I can train a deaf dog. However, I wouldn't know how to train a blind one.

He is cute... I have been trying to make plans to go visit friends in Leamington for this weekend, but all the hotels are booked up for weddings, so we don't know yet if we are going. If we do go, I'll only be about 20 minutes from the border into Michigan. Depending on what part of MI he is in I might be able to help, at least get him out of there, though I couldn't keep him forever.
I just did a mapquest search, and if he is in Jackson MI (just guessing as per the email address) he would only be an hour from my friends place.
OMD!
Willowsprite -- Are you kidding?! Would you consider helping out if I can EVER reach that dang shelter?
Hi Grace,
If Willowsprite doesn't end up going to see her friends in Leamington, I can help. I live about the same distance from the Michigan/Canadian border and go over frequently. I'm sure Cooper would love the company until you could make arrangements to pick him up. I'll keeping reading the posts to get updated.
Well Paulette, if you can help that would be great, as I cannot make the trip down at this time. I have no idea what to do this weekend now, as all my plans have changed so many times at this point. My husband actually has four days off.... which we planned a long time ago, so there's vacation days gone to waste as now we won't be doing anything.
Willow, it is too bad Oklahoma is way too far for 4 days. I know Jack and Annabelle would love to play with Dancer. I am sorry you don't get to go anywhere, although I am sure your house is the same as mine....NEVER a dull moment.
Grace, I hope that Paulette or someone can help...I would love to, but MI is a little too far for me. I can't wait to here more about that cute puppy. Stormi and co.
I feel so bad :( It wouldn't have been a big deal if I was down there anyway, but to go there from here would be at least 16 hours of being on the road in 40 degrees celcius with no air conditioning in my car (it broke)
Eek, not good for people or animals :(
I hope someone can get him out of there, he looks like such a sweetheart.
If someone does go to MI for him, maybe they can get Charity too! LOL She is another beautiful sheepie in a shelter in Howell Mi. I have been in contact with them to ask if there is anything I can do to help find her a home, and they still have her too.
I am free all weekend - my husband is going drag racing in Grand Bend for the weekend - so it's just me and Cooper - we would love a little house guest! So Grace, just let me know if you make arrangements with the shelter and I can go and pick him up - anytime!! I'd love to help.
You are all SO sweet!! I have seen Charity on PetFinder for a LONG time! She is beautiful! However, in their ad they state "no out of state adoptions" . :( I am sure there are MANY people who would love to adopt her but can't as they are out of state.

Still no word on the little guy. I'm getting discouraged which only makes me want to call and call and call. Like I said, I hate to leave a billion messages .... but maybe I should. What do you think?
Hi Grace,

I think in a previous post you have said that he is a stray and would be the first one to be put down.....if that is the case then I would call and call and call and leave dozens of messages. You aren't trying to be annoying, you are trying to be a caring person rescuing someone who needs you. They all should understand and be grateful to you. I know I am. Good luck, I hope everything works out very soon. Stormi and co.
I think it's the other way around - the strays are held in case their owners claim them - the owner turn-ins are the ones to be euthanized first! It's sad that any of them have to be euthanized at all!

I would still call and call and call until you reached someone! They get a lot of calls from people who don't ever follow through - so they tend to respond if you keep calling - they know you are serious!

With regards to Charity.... If I remember correctly, someone told me that Charity was DEAF - and they don't mention that in their description. She's been listed for quite a while - and I think that rescue "people" have tried to assist in her placement without success (some of the shelters / organizations aren't very receptive to offers of help from rescues for some reason). I keep seeing her - and wondering what could be taking them so long to place her! :o
