I Miss My Couch!!!

I recently wrote of my couch experiences...that is moving them. LOL

Well it happened again!! A friend overheard me telling people at work about getting all these couches for my sons and rooms in my house. Maybe they felt sorry for me? Ha ha As I was saying I will someday get a new couch and loveseat for me.

I was extremely jealous of Ginny chatting about her soon to get new couch..(looks for green jealousy icon).

Well this friend offers me her mint condition couch and loveseat...sigh another one! So once again I make a trip in my van and lift the couch in and return for the loveseat. In her place the couch looked very nice, although I no longer like floral patters, I can live with it. I mean a couch with no rips in the cushions...wheeee!

This time it means carrying both items up a winding staircase so I beg and plead with my son and his friend. Not only do they have to carry in the couch but also take the old ones out.

They decide to use the backsteps and at one point were tempted to simply throw the old couch and loveseat off the backporch instead of carrying it down. Luckily I said no.

The couch and loveseat are placed in my living room and I realize with dismay I don't like the pattern at all. Worse the thing squeaks and the dogs are sliding off the slippery fabric. The next day I hate it. Day three I can't stand the thing.

I miss my old couch and loveseat which are currently in the garage! I realize how well made my couch was.Egads didn't have the heart to tell anyone so now have decided to take a upholstry course and redo it and then bring it back. In fact, I'm thinking of practising on the horrible couch first and then attempt my much loved former couch. When it's time to move it upstairs..think I'll hire a moving company to do it. :|

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you'll notice I have been TALKING about a new couch for over a year now. Your green jealousy icon should REALLY be an "I feel sorry for her all she does is talk about it icon"!!!

I guess it's appropriate to share MY couch story here, maybe that will explain why I'm so couch hungry.

I DID have a brand new couch once....... I purchased this great big over stuffed couch years ago when I was getting divorced, it was a "GREAT, HUGE sink your entire body into it neck deep in pillows". Shortly after buying it I moved into a mobile home (you may remember the story-couldn't find anyone who would rent to me with a big dog, bought a mobile home in order to keep Tasker).

Mobile home living rooms are small and the couch filled about 92.5% of the room. About the same time my Mom died and I had to empty and sell her house. She had am AMAZING retro (really retro from the 60's) long narrow couch. My daughter was into 60's retro at the time and BEGGED me to bring the couch home. Wanting to make the child happy I agreed but knew that there was no place to put the couch soooooooooo I gave my brand spanking new sink your entire body into it neck deep in pillows couch away. Yup, GAVE it away to a son of a girl I worked with who had just gotten married was having a baby and couldn't afford furniture.

(how am I doing Marianne? Is this sounding like one of YOUR stories  )

We moved the brand new couch out, and the new old couch in. All was right with the world for about 20 seconds. Almost immediately the fabric on the retro couch started to literally fall apart. The couch was wool, and had been in my Mother's unused livingroom for years and years and years. Apparently moths had gotten at it from the INSIDE. The damage was not apparent when you looked at the couch but with a little use the fabric literally started to SHRED.

I hired a friend to recover the cushions, PAID HER IN ADVANCE and sent the cushions off to her house. Six months later I got the cushions back, she had done a TERRIBLE job and they didn't even fit. In the mean time she had gone through a divorce, spent my money and I felt too sorry for her to demand a refund.

The couch got carted off to the dump. My daughter and I went to the local furniture store and purchased an affordable couch, no where near as nice as the ones I had had but serviceable........................

Well you all know what happens with inexpensive furniture (well actually I think I paid over $1000 for it so not soooooooo inexpensive). So here it is almost 9 years later and I'm once again getting the couch itch.

Marianne, could you please come to NY and FIND ME A DEAL?????????????
LOL yes the saga of the couches..I swear we could write stories! Oh wait we did! :D

Ginny, I have to apologize as to laughing at your expense..oh sheesh now I'm no longer jealous and wishing you too get the couch of your dreams. You've also made me feel so much better about my couch problem.

I counted the couches in my home..lemmee see couch and love seat in living room, plus circular couch aka dog bed - that's 3, futon in spare guest room aka foster cat room , now currently Puff the bunny's room - 1. Then front entrance hall has a loveseat -1, son's room - that nice black leather couch - 1, garage is housing now 2 full size couches and loveseat - 3 and my sister has my beautiful cream color couch in her garage -1 and my oldest son has the matching one in his apartment- 1. (Those two don't count I guess as they aren't physically here).

9!!!! nine OMG! Who the heck has 9 couches? and 2 more currently housed elsewhere? Ironically those 2 are the couch of my dreams I've written about before..but hense no prestine cream color couch could ever exist in my home.

My story is so much like yours Ginny! I realized once my couch and loveseat were banned to the garage how much I really loved that couch, except for the torn cushions. It was perfect and I really miss it! Whew! Thankfully it didn't get thrown over the porch like my son and his friend had wanted.

Ginny I think I have a knack for couches or will be an expert at upholstry (my now new found interest) so if I travel your way, we're going couch shopping!

Marianne and the boys
9 couches PLUS???

you are my hero Marianee
