Fred's Nemesis

Fred goes absolutely nuts everytime I vacuum. He has been known to growl at and attack the vaccum on occasion. It doesn't matter if he is on another floor of the house sleeping, the minute I start cleaning he comes bounding into the room to do battle with his nemesis. Another rival of Fred's is the Swiffer Wet Jet.

Does your sheepie go nuts when you clean or is it just my guy that has an aversion to cleanliness?

Please see the evidence below that was documented two days ago while I attempted to straighten up the kitchen.

Panda only goes after the wet jet when i spray toward her....other than that she is just willing to follow behind me and get the floors newly dirty....

Now the vacuum cleaner is another story...we have a canister vac...ironically she doesnt care about the wood floor attachment, but the regular carpet/rug one...she spazes...its a constant...NO no no no...leave it..no no no no ...leave it...i think it is from the vibration on the carpet...but thats only a guess....
Avalon shares Fred's aversion to cleanliness!
She bark bark barks at the vacuum. And wants to eat the swiffer....sigh...now she has to be outside or crated when I clean. Its faster that way
Hilarious! Very cute pictures. :)
Too funny!!

Izzie usually tolerates the vacuum, but not always. When she is barking at it it is usually because of the back and forth movement...not the noise. She seems to think it is alive and playing with her
I WISH Barney was a little more wary of the vacuum. I'll be vacuuming and it will be time to get to the spot where Barney is sitting and sometimes I'll end up just vaccuuming around him--he won't budge! He couldn't care less about it. If I start jabbing him with the vacuum, then he might get up and move, but not always...

My parents' sheepdog Maggie HATES the vacuum and will follow it around the house and bark at it, which is funny because she is otherwise the biggest wimp ever. 8)
Cute LOL
Dancer doesn't like the vacuum either. She's not afraid of it, or the noise, but she doesn't like the look of it or something, she pokes her nose at it and growls everytime she sees it sitting in a room. LOL
Both Maudie and Crumpet were broom and vacuum attackers. Brooms were play toys; shop brooms could be ridden when still puppies. Later the larger dog was impossible to push on the broom. Instead they just attacked the bristles. Tug of war! Crumpet tried riding the upright vacuum, but couldn't hang on.

These current guys either get up and go to the door to be let out, or like the above slug, not move. However if any attempt is made to vacuum the slug, it moves rather quickly.
I LOVE the vacumn cleaner.

Both Bosley and Dixie are wary of it....When it comes out they get real quiet and find a corner to watch it carefully from. 8O

So when they are rambunctious and need to calm downl I just have to take out the "chilling machine".....and all of a sudden...not a peep.....

Mopsy attacked it but I blamed that on my husband for teasing her with it when she was little. Even when she got older she would come running from wherever to play with "the doggie getting machine". I would let her have a couple of go arounds and then tell her "okay, that is enough now go lay down". Then she would lay down and suck her bear while I vacuumed

Harry the "little county mouse" has been terrified of the "big city noises" which includes the vacuum sweeper and the mixer. He is getting braver now about coming to check on the vacuum when I get it out, which is not often enough  He used to go hide in the farthest corner of the house. Now that he is braver he will come stand next to me while I vacuum. I will let him play a couple of rounds of "get Harry" with it when I am done. He seems to like that actually and gets very excited though he is not very brave in his attacks.
Judging by your description and pictures, Barkley has the exact same reaction to the vaccum... and the mop... and the broom.

It starts out with a bow down, bum in the air and playful barks. (He wants the vaccum to play with him??) Then is escalates to him going crazy running at the vaccum and attacking it, then getting scared and running away.

It's pretty funny... but I worry about disturbing the neighbours.

Even funnier is when I'm vaccuming upstairs and he's downstairs barking at the ceiling.
Foz totally goes goes after the portable dust buster and also that roller thing with the tape on it. He hears it from downstairs as I'm cleaning my black pants...he comes a running!

Annie got tired of him going after the dust buster one day and she got in on the action. It was very silly. Me busting, Fozzie growling and biting, Annie biting and chasing Foz away. Very productive

That reminds me of Izzie and pillow cases...everytime I make the bed and "shake" the pillows into the pillow cases she comes running and tries to attack the pillows  Sometimes I think she is psychic...she won't be in the room until just as I start the pillows
Bingley does this too. Actually, we were just beginning to vacuum when I read your post and we had to put him up in his crate. I wish there was a better way . . .
Bunker used to Bark her face at it when she was little. We had a built in with a light on the power head and from all of her drool it stopped working. I chased her with it and now when I start to clean, she jumps on the couch and watched me.
Lucky ignores the vaccum, Sam runs into the other room and hides, London wants to play with it. Although the broom is her favorite to "attack".
Callie used to be just the same with the vacuum, barking, attacking, then running away scared, the whole bit. Even when it was turned off, she wouldn't go near it (which was actually helpful in some cases when we needed to keep her out of a room or something - just park the vacuum in the doorway and she wouldn't think of going past it!)
But then we started parking it in our bedroom (where she sleeps) at night and by her crate sometimes during the day. I think she finally figured out that it's no big deal and she doesn't go crazy anymore. She still has to be in the room when it's running, but she'll just stand there and watch, not go crazy like before. Our pug puppy, however... that's a different story! 8O
