Send positive thoughts to Jackson, in Minnesota

The Minnesota OES Rescue recently took in a dog named "Jackson", who went in today for removal of a couple tumors and neutering. I just received this from Nancy, the MOESR Rescue Coordinator:

"Just wanted to let you know ... Jackson went in to the vet today for his neuter and removal of tumors.

Our vet called and stated that there is a good chance that Jackson has cancer. By the tone of her voice she sounded very concerned and kept apologizing.

We won't know the results for 2-10 days. That spread kills me -- but in the meantime, could you please send prayers and positive thoughts Jackson's way? And perhaps ask other OES lovers to do the same? Perhaps praying that the vet is wrong? I'm not on either OES board at this time and right now have to work on getting other dogs into rescue while waiting to hear from the surgical suite regarding Jackson's progress.

I have no idea how Minnesota is going to pay for the extensive surgery that he is undergoing right now. We'd planned on about $300. for his neuter. but that's the least of our worries. We just want Jackson to be okay ..."

Please say a prayer for Jackson and give your own dog(s) a belly rub.

Thank you,

Nita

I spoke to Nancy last night and she said Jackson is responding very positively to all the extra attention and affection. It's still frustrating having to wait for the test results. :plead:

For now, he isn't aware of what his diagnosis may be. He's just a big, sweet bundle of love that's had a difficult life until coming into MOESR. :hearts: Any positive energy sent his way is still greatly appreciated. :ghug: I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks to all for your kindness,

Nita
Just made a donation from our rescue OES Rescue SE.
Hoping if the news is difficult there will still be something medically to be done.
I will make a personal donation too. Hope everyone on the forum will help if they can.

I just received this update on Jackson:

Dear Friends,

I want to thank you all so much for all the white light, prayers, warm thoughts and well wishes -- for all the fingers, toes and paws that have been crossed for Jackson, a really cool boy, in rescue with MOESR.

I also want to thank those of you who have generously donated to Jackson's care. The kindness being shown to this boy is amazing and very unexpected. I can't tell you how much your thoughts and donations have helped in caring for Jackson. You have all touched his life by thinking of him. And through tears, I thank you all.

The pathology results came back on Friday and I want to share what I've learned with you all.

My friend and yours, Jackson, has cancer.

Cancer was found in the mass on Jack's back. The margins were very, very poor. This particular tumor is referred to as a metastatic tumor. (just secondary to the primary tumor which is elsewhere within his body)

For now we will continue to take things as we have from the start with Jackson. One day and one step at a time.

My home, Jack's foster home, is only a temporary stop on Jackson's and many other fosters' journeys. My biggest request at this time would be to ask that you *think positive thoughts* that Jackson finds his way to where he belongs - home with his family.

With Love and Deepest Gratitude,

Nancy

Nancy isn't giving up on Jackson yet. If you'd like, you can make a donation to his care on the MOESR Petfinder site: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis ... id=7744004 but most importantly, keep this sweet boy in your thoughts.

Thanks,

Nita
Today was such a sad day in Kentucky when we learned our beloved Barbaro was put down. But I know that we have Jackson out there and he is being cared for very well and it helped to relieve some of my sadness.

Good thoughts and lots of prayers for Jackson tonight, Loretta
Oh how sad. I am so sorry .

Antoinette
I feel so bad ,I really thought he was getting better.

I 2nd this! That was really nice of her to send that out, and the picture of Jackson is adorable
Yes - I received a photo of Jackson today and it was so thoughtful to take time to send the thank you. My wishes and positive thoughts every day to Jackson -

And for everyone, the OES I rescued in South Carolina a few weeks ago was spayed on Monday and is home doing very well. She is happy here and gets alot of exercise with her house brother here, Jackson the Barbet.
I'll fourth that. I have Jackson's picture on the refrigerator :D He has such a sweet sheepie-face.

I guess the way I see this is that even IF Jackson's long term prognosis is found to be less than favorable, he's definitely NOT ready for the Big Nap yet. Just look at that picture of him running and playing on his birthday!

Jackson still has some living to do and he certainly hasn't given up (nor does he know that he even has cancer) so I think it's fabulous that he's getting the opportunity to do it. He's enjoying things that he may never have experienced before like playing with toys; sleeping on that nice comfy couch; having hugs and kisses throughout the day; learning what's appropriate and what isn't for an inside dog (I heard that he still has to follow the doggie-code-of-appropriate-behavior); chew-chews; just being part of a human family inside a home. Who knows... maybe he'll even find a very special family to call his own. You just never know.

Whatever time he's given will never be considered wasted in my book.
Hugs to you birthday-boy!
Jaci
I want to thank you for the kind thoughts for Jackson, yours and my senior boy in rescue, recently diagnosed with cancer. I can't tell you how much it means to have so many thinking of Jackson.

In mid January I received a call from a shelter in northern Minnesota who takes in dogs from the pound.
A male OES had been surrendered to the pound. The dog had cost his owner too much in fines over the years. ( un-altered male, kept outside with the rest of their breeding stock & this boy was a "ranger" ) The owner - a breeder. Jackson - one of their studs. Along with Jackson, the owner turned in his AKC papers -- for what? My brain has a hard time wrapping itself around the idea of what the papers are good for in a dog who's 'cock-eyed' and not a good representative of the breed - for a "stud dog" anyway. But! A very cool, adorable personality just the same. The shelter wanted him to have the best chance possible at finding an OES savvy home so to MOESR Jackson came.

Jackson was to be sheared and neutered. Once sedated and sheared they found that there was too much infection around his scrotum, etc. to safely neuter him at that time. He was treated for a multitude of maladies including fecal burns, skin infection, bilateral ear infection, open sores and alaria.

During his next vet check we again discussed his neuter and the ugly masses he carried on his back, etc. It was decided to have the masses removed while he was under anesthesia for neuter. Because his testicles were abnormal, we planned to send them along with the masses removed to the pathology dept. at the U of M.

Days later Jackson was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer stems from an unknown source from within his body. The organ(s) of origin have not been determined. The largest mass on his back is metastatic. (secondary to the primary source of cancer)

On 01 February Jackson celebrated his 7th birthday! Complete with his own new "piggy", (pink stuffed hedgehog) treats, hugs, loves and what seemed like the best part for Jackson - playing ball.

Tomorrow - Tuesday 06 February, Jackson will return to surgery. (please think good thoughts for him that day) Surgeons will be cleaning up the margins of the secondary cancerous site.

At this time we are not planning any further diagnostics for Jackson. This means we will not know of the primary source of cancer.

Jackson is living it up as a house dog. His ultra sweet personality is remarkable. Jackson lives to love and be loved. His cock-eyes, to me, only add to his charm. Being less than perfect doesn't make him any less lovable. I'm not perfect either ... maybe that's how I came to be his foster mum.

Jacky doesn't know he has cancer - and I'm not telling him! He loves to play with the other bobtails, to suck on his "piggy", gnaw on his chew-chewies, nap on the couch and sit for pats. And! If you aren't paying attention to his nice "sit" he'll let you know and nose bump you until you pay attention. Silly boy!

We're not giving up on Jacks and are looking for a home for him that will love him imperfections and all -- as he will his uprights. And as I've told many of you already -- continued couch privileges will be a must. <smile>

Thank you so much again for keeping Jackson in your thoughts. We appreciate your kindness very much.

Nancy

Prayers, hugs and a donation (via PayPal) is on the way.
Wish he were closer.
This makes me sad, but I am happy that he is living out his life now with love :D
I want to read and see how Jackson is doing, yet I hesitate because even without knowing him, I love him and don't want to know that he's ill.

I sent my donation on directly to the vet that was taking care of him. I don't know if that will help others to donate - those others, like me, who don't have Paypal accounts. Nancy would know best if that would work or not.

I'm just glad that he has such a great home with lots of love right now.

Betsy
Poor baby, so happy you have him to give him all that love :D
If anyone hears how Jackson's doing after his surgery today, please post and let us know. I am very anxious to hear that he's ok and resting comfortably.

Betsy
Any news on Jackson yet? I hope his surgery goes well for him and can back on his sofa as soon as possible.
Nancy said Jackson's surgery went pretty well. He stayed overnight with the vet which she said was probably a good idea because she's now having a hard time keeping the boy down so he can heal. He wants to play with his foster sisters :D
I sure hope that Jackson is doing well. Loretta
How is Jackson doing? I think of him often. Sue
Anyone have a Jackson update? I saw his picture on my fridge today and it got me thinking about him... I hope he is doing well!
We have his photo on our refrigerator also and was wondering how he is doing? Our little OES rescue is just great.
