Interested in OES information

Hi, We are the Seagraves. We live in Texas and have 5 children. 3 of those are triplets so we feel like we are raising a litter of puppies on most days! :D We are interested in getting an OES in the next year. I have always been interested in this breed but don't know anyone who has one. I am so glad I have found this site ~ I am most interested in getting an OES with a great temperment because we have so many children in and out of our house all the time. Where do I start to look? I have been researching on the Internet but I just don't know if I can trust what they are saying. Any advice? Feel free to tell me the good and bad of owning a OES. Any information is helpful!

Hi and WELCOME to the forum!

You've come to the right place -- there's a TON of reading to do around here, and any question you think of, just post it and someone will answer, and likely fairly quickly, too.

One thing you might want to consider is adopting an adult dog; he or she may already be house trained, and if you go through a good OES rescue program, they will have been temperament tested for children. That doesn't mean that children are safe with the dogs -- dogs will be dogs and the occasional nip on the leg or in the face may happen. This is something you need to think about.

Anyway, we're here! They are great dogs and the people around here are even better.

Nice to have you aboard.
Where area of Texas are you in? There are a few people in the state who are excellent with OES and would allow you to come out and meet their dogs. Nothing like a little first hand experience to really get a good idea of what you are in for!
Welcome!
I can't help you with the Texas part, but the people here are very helpful.

How old are your kids? Have you had dogs before -either as a family or when you adults were growing up? What breeds? Knowing your dog background is helpful in deciding if an OES is a good breed for you, and also for picking an individual dog.

Even as an experienced dog person, I love this group and all the varied knowledge we have. I swear I learn something new here daily!
