Does anyone use a specific product for removing the tear stains from below the pups eyes? I see lots of products but not sure how sae any are.
Thanks.

I've never used anything, other than a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball at a dog show. I've heard "Diamond Eye" is a good product though.
Diamond eye works well, specifically made for tear stains, especially on white hair.

Easy to apply, squirt on cottonwool ball, wipe from the corner just below the eye out along the stain then re-wipe with a dry cotton wool ball. Easy to get from a good dog supply store and not expensive either.

Gradual fade of the tear stains, not a miracle one off treatment. :D
Ahhhhhhhhhhh tear stains, something any maltese owner knows lots about

First of all if the tear stains are chronic or extensive you need to see a vet, they could be a bacterial or yeast infection. Ty (my maltese) is on a low dose of Tylan-40 weekly. Most of the tear stain products for topical application, don't work :( . They tend to dry and damage the hair.

I wash Ty's face every night wsith a wash cloth and warm water and then blow dry it. If it's a yeast infection you want to make especiallly sure the area is kept dry. I also use a whitening shampoo about once a week on his face (you can was a small area). Other than that keeping the hair trimmed helps.

It is important to have the eyes evalualted, the excessive tearing could be cause by an ingrown elyelaash or blocked tear ducts.
hi all

i would second much of what tyler's mom says and go on to recommend angel's eyes as an effective tear stain inhibitor. we use it with our bichons. you add it to their food. simple as that.

google it for suppliers

Angels eyes wont change the hair colour though, it prevents future staining.

diet changes can help as well, esp. reducing wheat products. bottle vs tap water apparently makes little difference.
Angel Eyes is a VERY expensive form of Tylan. Since the dose is weight based the amount of Angel Eyes necessary for the average OES would make it absurdly expensive.

Pure Tylan 40 can be purchased from many online sources for a more reasonable cost.

However, since it is an antibiotic I would consult your vet first. SInce eye staining can be from many different causes and is not a common problem in OES I would want to know the cause.

I believe Diamond Eyes is a topical whitener and would be a safer solution.
