I guess if she and her supporters keep dreaming... ;)
Actually, I will come out of the closet and admit to being a HUGE Hillary fan. I am thrilled she is running and will support her.

Without getting into a "political" discussion I will say that as Senator from my state she has done a great job. I met her once and actually had a conversation with her (brief) and found her to be a amazingly warm, intelligent and down to earth person.

Barach Obama is the one I shudder at thinking of as a candidate.

One thing for certain, it will be an interesting and pivotal election.

a haa haa haa
WOW! I bet this thread will get interesting. :lmt:
I'm just grateful that Bush can't run again :phew:
GO HILLARY!!!!

:cheer: :cheer:
I heard that Colin Powell was thinking of running on the Democrat ticket. He would be great - gets my vote in a second (and I typically vote Republican). Hillary will never get my vote. I can't stand the woman.

Funny, my friends from NY don't like her as a senator. And my business colleagues from Arkansas can't stand her either from her time there. I'm torn on this one - I'd like to see a woman elected, even though Hillary wouldn't be my choice. I just don't think Hillary is going to get it done, too much baggage. I honestly don't think this country is going to elect a woman. Sad, but true. The Democratic primary is going to be a huge bloodbath - Obama, Hillary, Edwards. This is the Democrats' fatal flaw, they tear each other apart in the primary.
It would be nice to see a Women as President for a change, we have the same debate going on here, harder for a women to make it to the top in a men dominated domain.

Maggie thatcher did it in the UK, Primeminister, Helen ? (forgot her last name) in New Zealand, Primeminister too, Australia, well hopefully that might happen here also one day. :D

I like Hillary, thought she always handled herself well, especially when it came to her husband and all the anitics there.

Be interesting to see how far she gets in the race to the whitehouse. :D

Knowing that the odds were pretty good that she would announce her candidacey I've followed her voting record pretty closely. You has been very active in both education and health care issues.

I think you are correct though, too many cooks will definately spoil the broth!!!!
I think we're ready for an African American president and I will be supporting Obama 100% if he decides to run!
I hope the election, and presidency, doesn't become about the sex or color of the people running... I understand it would be an important moment for both, but there is too much going on in the world for it to be a factor in people's choices.
The best candidate is the best candidate, plain and simple. Maybe not so plain and simple to figure out who that is, but I hope that is what the choice is based on.

As a black woman I dont want no black president elected because he is black. Go give your vote to David Duke you are cut from the same cloth just the other side.
...and guest, you're an idiot.

Of course I could be wrong, but I don't even believe you're black.

Two, she clearly made it known that she wanted Obama to win. Not the race alone. It would just be nice, for her and many other Americans, to ALSO see an African American become President. What a milestone that would be...

I think a large majority of the AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY would AGREE.

Of course if the person running didn't share the same views as them that would affect their decision. Many will vote just because the person is black or a woman, but people vote all the time w/o knowing a thing about the candidate.
In the words of Alec Baldwin, "I am leaving the U.S. if that man(woman) gets elected." Obviously, Alec never left the country so I probably do not have to follow through. Lol.

Less than a year ago I relocated from New York City to Maryland. Personally, I do not feel Hillary has done a great deal for New York; she has used New York as her political stepping stone back to Pennsylvania Avenue.

Personally, I really feel you need to vote for the best person for the job. Unfortunately, by the time the actual election roles around the pickins are slim because whoever has the biggest bankroll ends up on the ticket. It's disgusting. I as a U.S. citizen take voting very seriously and vote in every election. Unfortunately, voting has morphed into picking the lesser of two evils for me. (Getting out and voting in primaries is critical for this reason)

Would I vote for Hillary merely because I would like to have a Madame President? (No.)

I'd love to see a female President in my lifetime and I believe there will be one. The reality of the situation is that Hillary is not the best person for the job in my eyes and this is the reason I would not throw my support behind her.

Do I think Hillary will get elected? (No, she is too polarizing of a figure. For all of the people out there that love her, (like Ginny  )there are tons of people out there that extremely dislike her, like me)

What I want to know is what about the WHITE HALF of him?????? Why is it that people suddenly become the "race" they chose instead of what they are. Obama has a white mother and a black father so he is 50% each, why is a big deal being made out of his "blackness"?

I agree with the guest, a person should be elected because they are qualified NOT because of race or sex.

I happen to like Hillary very much, I have met her in person and have followed her voting record closely for the last two years. Does that guarantee I will vote for her in the Presidential election? NO, I will follow what she has to say through speaches and debates and will make an "informed" decision after seeing what all the candidates have to offer.
I do not think Hillary is the "smartest woman in America" because of the debacle with her health care attempt. She had no idea what she was doing or how to do it, believing in "if I say so it must be done." I also have grave concerns about the missing FBI records being found in her closet and other attempts to subvert law. And on a personal note, her voice drives me nuts.

Obama has not proven himself a leader. His color is of no issue with me.

Powell as a Democrat......that would be a party change for him and people don't trust people who switch so suddenly. Plus his wife has said she does not what him to run......period.

McCain.......he is very vindictive.....if you don't follow him he curses you to high heaven and is your enemy forever. Not a leader, just a glory seeker.

Edwards.....he surely thinks highly of himself. I prefer a more humble individual.

Pelosi..........well, at least she'd get her larger jet!

Gingrich.......the press will crucify him before he gets out of the gate.

The press runs today's politics........let's see who they favor.
I don't understand why people get so hung up on having a woman or black or Hispanic president. Who the heck cares about race or gender as long as someone does a good job? Myself, I would never want to be chosen for anything except my own merit. On the same lines of thinking, I wouldn't vote for anyone based on that either.

You know when we'll really be ready for a different race or gender president? When we stop saying things like "We need a black, woman, Asian or (fill in the blank) president." When we stop noticing those things and just pick the candidate that we like for our own reasons-- no matter what they are-- is when we'll be ready.

Either do I because I don't think the smartest woman in America would ever want to run for President!!! I wish Oprah would run....
I've saved this for a few months now waiting for a good time to post...

thought it was funny. i think it was followed with a "how does this sound: Your next President Clinton" (something liek that)

Me too Ginny  And I'm glad (and everyone else should be) that Gov. Jennifer Granholm of MI isn't running for president because she would run everyone right out of the country
Phew! Is that Hillary before she puts on her makeup?? LOL! Funny picture.

susan
I wasn't suggesting we should elect Obama because of his race. I was simply stating we are ready for someone to take office that isn't a white male.

We should elect him cause hes from Chicago!
