I loved the animals one-- it's amazing how different and at what stages stuff develops in different animals. I watched the human multiples one too. I also found that one interesting but I liked the diversity of the animals one better. I loved the theory that they were talking about how left handedness occurs most often in twins so they think that it could be that left handed people are actually part of a twin set that consumed the other twin the womb. James is left handed so I kept telling him he was likely a cannibal!

Did you see that episode of House where that little boy was having hallucinations because of this? He was the twin who absorbed the other half? Freaky!! 8O

I have not seen the NG special yet, but I've seen it advertised several times. It looks really interesting. I liked seeing the dog panting and the dolphin swimming and the elephant running in the womb. Cool. :P
i thought the dolphin one was really cool. i thought it was very interesting that dolphins start to develop legs and then they are reabsorbed.....
One of my brothers was supposed to be one of two twins. He had a small growth on his chest about the size of a 50 cent piece and when it was removed the doctor told my mother that it was the remainder of what was to be the other twin! Obviously, the twin did not develop very much. My mom was totally surprised and, probably relieved too. She always said the good lord knew what he was doing when she gave him to her last!

Wow. that is really fascinating...I have 2 kids that are left handed...and one kid that writes with his right hand(teacher made him) but does every thing else left handed. My youngest daughter is actually doing her science fair project on handedness...I'll have to tell her about this show. She is 10, do you think it will freak her out?
I really hope I get a chance to see that show... nothing airs in Canada when it does in the US though Grrrrr
Well, Lisa is left handed and I am right handed....we are what you call mirror image twins....she has always said that she was the orignal egg that split....Id hate to even think that she may be right :?
I watched the animal one and thought it was great. I waanted to watch the multiple one but missed it, since I am a multiple I was especially interested. Maybe It will come around again!!
I just checked, it won't be aired in Canada :(

Anyone want to tape it for me?? :plead:
It's on the National Geographic channel tonight at 9pm (the website says, not sure what time zone that is for)

I did. Apparently this isn't as uncommon as people think either. On the Discovery health channel, it may have been Mystery Diagnosis or a special of its own, I can't remember, they did a whole feature on chimerism (named after the Greek mythological creature chimera, who was made of up of different body parts). There were a couple instances where women had children that were coming up in tests as not belonging to them. No one could figure it out and, of course, were thinking it was something to do with baby swapping or some other strange outside happening. It turned out that in all the cases that they covered, that the women had been twins and had absorbed the other twin so they had both sets of DNA but had only passed the less common one to the children. The doctors ended up finding the DNA by taking tissue samples from all over the women's bodies.

I forget the statistic for how much that they predicted this happened but it was very high. Most people just never figure it out because they don't have a reason to. Unless you have a DNA test taken and compared to your children's, or have samples taken from all over your body, there'd be no way to tell. Crazy, huh?

Have any of you read The Dark Half by Stephen King? It's about that very subject and is it EVER creepy! One of his best IMO

I was actually just coming back in to mention that and you beat me to it! That was one of his best. In fact, I'd say it was the last decent book that he had.
I never post in this section but this program looks interesting. Thanks Darcy :D

By the way I am LMAO at Jill telling James he is a cannibal and Ron telling Darcy that the "original egg" can work the VCR. I could use a good laugh today. Thanks Jill and Ron.

I will have to try the Stephen King novel - one of these days.
