Hooray! Drez has bronchitis!!

Yes, you read right - hooray!!

Drez started coughing a little while ago, and we didn't think anything of it. It was just a little cough now and then, so we figured that just like people, dogs catch colds too. Plus the fact that we both had colds ourselves.

Over the week-end, she really started hacking - and I mean HACKING!! 8O It was so scary to hear her!! She'd cough 8-10 times in a row, then end it with what appeared to be a vomitting move, only nothing would come out. Then she'd pant, and pant hard. My thoughts were racing! :twitch: Could this be congestive heart failure? After all, she is 13-1/2 and is fairly sedentary because of her hips. But her appetite hasn't diminished. Hmmm!

So we took her to the vet today, half expecting the worst. :plead: He listened to her heart, did a few chest x-rays, and delivered a diagnosis of bronchitis!! Yippee!! :yay: Treatable with 3 antibiotics for 2 weeks!! :phew:

So although our little girl is a bit under the weather right now, at least we know she'll be with us for awhile yet. YAY!! :go:

When I read the heading for this post I thought HUH What the ? for Hooraying for Bronchitis. 8O

Then I read it, YIPPEE, YAY, HOORAY,WOOHOO & PHEW :phew:

So glad it was not anything else, must of scared the stuffing out of you. 13 1/2 when something is not quite right you DO panic, I freak out.

Give that sweet dear Ol Poppet a cuddle and tell her to sit back and relax and to make sure mom gives her lots and lots of treats and all things good till she gets better.

And a hug for you too, I think you definately need one also. :phew:

Glad to hear it is only bronchitis. Get well Drez!
Have a speed recovery Drezzie :D
Oh my! I guess that IS good news! Yay Drezzie! She's gotta hang in there to continue showing Chum how its done! I hope she feels better soon.

The message titles lately really are head scratchers -- bloody foot, call 911, hooray for bronchitis. I don't know what to expect anymore. 8O
Drezzie, Ihope you are feling better real soon :hearts:
I'm also happy to hear it wasn't something worse, but I still hope for a quick and healthy recovery! :hearts: :hearts:
Poor Drez puppy, hugs and kisses and I hope Mom is spoiling you LOTS!!!
Drezzie you sweet little sheepie, :hearts: get better soon! :ghug:
Oh thank goodness it is bronchitis. What a terrible thing to write but I know the alternative to those symptoms

Three years ago our 13 yo chow Chelsea, came down with the same symptoms. The vet gave us meds and told us to pray she would get better. He said if the meds work you will know almost right away, if they don't its bad news. It was bad news, she had congestive heart failure. We had to put her down 4 months after that. 13 years for a chow is a long time, most only live until they are 10.

I am SO glad to hear Drezzie has bronchitis. Get well dear girl! :ghug: :ghug:
:phew: Goodness! What a scare! :phew:

I'm so glad it is *only* bronchitis. :D Hope you're feeling better soon, Drezzie!! Hugs & kisses from me.
WizardMerlin - I have the same thing going here. Our little MinPin Tazz has CHF - diagnosed after antibiotics did not clear up a respiratory infection. A chest xray confirmed cardiomegally. He's been on meds since May 2006, and holding his own.
Aww, poor Drezzie. How hard for you Chris to have to be worried about your poor girl, since she's getting up there in age. I'm glad it's something easily treatable.
like Val, i was confused by the title, but reading further made me understand...lol..then again, i am also know for obscure titles......

Glad Miss Drez is on the road to recovery...give the sweetie hugs and kisses from panda and me!
Me too! Or Me Three!

I am so sad Miss Drez is having a bout of sickness but like you very happy it can be cleared up with some meds. You know how much I love your girl!!!

Blue, Panda and Merlin are sending her some super sloppy kisses and best wishes to get well soon.

Marianne and the boys
How is Drezzie today? Any improvement yet?
I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything too serious. I know now that Lucy's getting older, too, I have the same fears every time she breathes funny or coughs. What a relief. I hope she's better soon regardless!
Thanks for your concern, everyone! :ghug: Drez is better, still coughing a bit but nowhere near as bad as it was. So I guess we're on the right path!

The little dickens also surprised us again yesterday. 8O In her younger days, if she smelled something good coming from the garbage can under the sink, she would open the cabinet door, slide out the garbage can and feast away. She hasn't done that for a few years now.

Dale ate some leftover ribs for lunch yesterday and threw the bones in the garbage under the sink. After a particularly trying day at work, we decided to grab a bite out last night. We did nothing out of the ordinary at home before we left. (Drez has free roam of the house when we're gone.)

We get home to find all the paper from the garbage strewn all over the kitchen floor. :x The can was still in the slider tray, the plastic bag was still in the can, with a huge hole torn in it. The container where the rib bones were was open and empty! So from the looks of it, she smelled the bones, opened the cabinet, slid out the tray, chewed a hole in the bag, threw out the paper garbage to get to the bones! The rest of the garbage was still in the bag!

A little while later, Dale was up in his office and I was in the basement doing laundry. When I came up, I caught Drez in the TV room chewing another bone!! 8O Dale said she must have hidden one (or some) somewhere for future feasting. For those who remember a previous antic of hers, she would occasionally hide one of her biscuits in a big floor planter. After that incident, we picked the planter up from the floor, so we were puzzled by where she would have hidden anything now. :lmt: I looked around - nothing. Then I saw it! :twitch: I recently changed jobs and locations at work, so I brought my plants home. I had 2 plants in a box ON THE FLOOR!! Doh! Sure enough, there was another bone in the box!

Man! Just when you think they can't surprise you any more, they do!! The meds must be working enough to improve her sense of smell again!

What a character!! What will I do without her? :hearts:
Hope Drez gets better soon and gets back to smothering you with lots and lots of sheepiesnogs!!!!!!
How absolutely adorable!......those sheeppie antics coming from that Drez girl!

She is the model of a senior sheepie for sure....Keeps her mom and dad on her toes!

That story made me smile.... LOL
I'm glad to hear she is feeling better! :)
I am glad it was nothing serious and am laughing here at her "trash picking" to get the good stuff!

You can't keep a good girl down. Way to go Drezzie.
Phew, I hope she feels better soon. I'm sure the vet was expecting a big o' swollen heart ,etc. Good news....in a way.

I love Drez!! I am so happy to hear her health has improved to permit such silly antics! She is a treasure. :hearts:
I am glad to hear she is feeling better. I can just picture her digging in the garbage, brought a smile to my face.
I'm glad that she's feeling better enough to get into the trash!! How many times can you really be glad about that??!!

Frank decided to eat all of the bones from an oven stuffer roaster chicken last night except for the leg & wish bones. I'm anxiously awaiting for them to come out!
Awww.....Drezzie!! :hearts: You've still got it, girl.

Not many times you are glad to have the trash strewn around the floor, but this is certainly one of those times. I'm so glad to know she's feeling better. What a precious girl she is. :hearts:
What a character, so glad she is feeling better, the bone bandit is on the mend. :hearts:
I was gone for awhile and just catching up on alot of posts.

Just wanted to tell you how relieved I am too that Drezzie is OK.

She's the bomb! :go:  We love her.
How did I miss this! Glad it was only Bronchitis.
Silly Drez and her stashes of food always makes me smile.
