Almost called 911

Oh I can see it now...hello? Operator..my son is stuck in his room..yes that's right..stuck with no escape. What? How did he get stuck?

Well you see my friend gave me a beautiful 7 ft black leather couch - perfect condition. Whazzat? Get to the point? Oh, but that's what this is about! You see my son's room is really the rec room which he took over as a bedroom and he begged me for the couch. Said he always wanted one, so despite the blizzard conditions I drove the three blocks as my friend had it in the Buy and Sell and had several people call. Yet, her and her hubby still wanted to just give it to me...Free! How could I resist?

Whazzat...get to the point? Oh , well it's all because of that stupid couch. You see it was so cold and snowy out we didn't ask anyone for help and so I left the couch in my van for 24 hours. Son kept bugging me said we could lift it into the house ourselves. Against my better judment we went out in that cold frosty night to retrieve the couch. Hey it slide on the sidewalk..so it was easier that I thought to bring it in!

Well that is until we tried to get the 7 ft couch in his doorway..we tried all angles. Finally tipping it straight up and there it stuck fast. You see it has wooden sides underneath the leather and doesn't give. So my son was stuck in his room. We pushed, pulled and tried to drag it ..nope no luck it was stuck.

I told my son I could probably slip him pieces of food and drink in a small opening but I'm afraid he's going to have to live in his room for a while.

Nope didn't make the call as I visualized all what I would say and determined it wasn't a real emergency..so he just had to stay in his room for most of the evening. Until we both stopped huffing and puffing and gathered our breath. I left him and went upstairs to try to regain some strength.

Eventually we were able to wedge something underneath it to make it slide and tip...yipiiiiiii!

Then again, I kinda liked having him in there. :lmt:

I thought your days of being a mover for your son were over! :D

Funny stuff.
LOL Great post Marianne

Hmmm... a couch to trap our kids, not bad!
LOL! I wish I could try it with my kids, but they ripped their door off the hindges the other week. *sigh* Brandon locked himself in his room, didn't know how to unlock it, got stuck in his room while I was trying to open the door. He didn't like it one bit so he took it off. That boy is something strong!
You just gave me a spit the coffee out all over the computer day. Thanks for a great laugh.

Geez Marianne, why shift the stuck couch IMO I would of left it there and thrown the necessities of substaining life in there on occassions 8) Always good to know where they are 24/7, in his case, no choice in the matter. :P

Couch sounds fantastic, with all the huffing and puffing to finally get it in, woo hoo, what a bargain.

Is it available for unexpected visitors to drop in unannounced to sleep on? 8)

Glad you finally got the couch in and your son out. :D
To get it back out will you chop it to pieces. See, I'd worry about that for the next 10 years until it was time to get it out of there.

You may have given parents ideas....but then there's still the window to barricade.....maybe a dresser? Children shouldn't be let out into public until they are........25 or so.

Geez you should know by now!!! 25, a good friend once told me that is the age you should adopt them, then send them straight out to work. :P

I like the couch theory, we are working on taking the one from the family room, upstairs to no 1 Sons bedroom, having trouble shifting it myself, have to wait till hubby gets home from work, OH HECK!!!
HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were supposed to CALL ME!!!! I'm the one wanting a leather couch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, POOR ME :( :( :( My "Leather Couch fund" just went to buy Doug a GENERATOR!!!!!!!!!! Can you IMAGINE, he'd rather have POWER than a couch~!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ginny poor you! Poor me too as I can relate having my heart set on cream colored couches some day.

I did purchase the most beautiful ones from an ad in the paper last year. Two full size cream colored couches, less than a year old for 400! I thought perhaps a misprint and after speaking with the homeowner realized it was true. I quickly rushed to their multi-million dollar home to pick them up.

Myself and the fellow loaded one couch at a time in my van, I drove home, knocked on a neighbors door and unloaded it in my garage. Then back for the next one..did the same thing but asked for help with another neighbor. Sadly, I realized after a multitude of horrible rainstorms and viewing my three muddy dogs how futile my dream would be. I ended up giving them away to my oldest son who desperately needed living room furniture. I kept the Futon I bought him and placed it in the Foster Cats room aka spare bedroom.

Then there was the Oddesy 2001 heated massage chair which had been priced at 1000 dollars in a Liquidation store. Marked down to 200! That thing was so heavy as it has hydrolics in the back and we(my neighbor and I) carried it up a flight of stairs to my living room. Panda claimed it as his own. Sigh so much for my visions of having a chair where I could sit with no furballs beside me.

In the summer I spied a round couch at a second hand store. A round couch? Who the heck would use that? No wonder it was brand new and only priced at 20 dollars. Then it dawned on me - it would make a great dog bed!!! Myself and the store clerk lifted it in the van and once again I asked for a neighbors help bringing it into my house. Thankfully I know lots of my neighbors and make sure I never ask the same person twice.

Then I purchased a love seat for the rec room downstairs (aka son's room) that too was an incredible bargin, priced very low at a sale. Everyone but myself was happy with my purchases as I did all the buying, lifting and they got to enjoy them. Helps to have a big ole van!

Now this leather couch, I repeatedly told my friend no but was very touched she had considered me. I kept it quiet from my son for about a week until he heard my friends message. Are you sure you don't want that couch? Urg I knew he would want it. So it meant moving his love seat into the front hallway and the leather couch in (Darcy I did remove the door and the legs off the couch too) Besides after moving aprox 7 couches this year I'm becoming an expert on this stuff. LOL That and the time I helped my son deliver furniture for the Kitchen outlet place he worked at. I also once dragged 25 6 ft tall trees to plant in the yard. Took 5 trips and an unconventional drag method, dug the holes and did it all myself! Granted that was 5 years ago and I had more energy then.

I groaned, moaned and berated the fact that I'm twice my son's age, weigh a 100 pounds and not very tall...still he conned me into helping him. No way was I going to ask a neighbor for help lifting yet another couch into the house. I'm saving that for when I someday get enough $ to purchase myself some new living room furniture. Sigh someday...but for now I'm just have to make do with the ones I have.

At least I have lots of room for people should they ever want to visit me with three muddy dogs in the house.
Now that my 19 year son has a couch which he loves he's already talking about moving out on his own( MSN once did an article and claimed black leather couches are the Number 1 item young single guys want ) Yeah perhaps this is the nudge he needs. Ginny nice to know you are like most young single guys.. :D
Marianne > shows off big arm muscles and sore back
Well at my age I'm happy to be "like" ANYTHING but what I am!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I'd PREFER a brown leather couch but would gladly take what ever I could sink my hooks in.

Used furniture that is sold around here is usually so stinky and soiled you wouldn't want it in your garage much less the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Image

This is the dog bed I was speaking of..ugly as heck but the boys love it!

Marianne
I think it's kinda nice
Marianne: I think the "boys" are guarding their couch. With all the couch moving they want to make sure you leave their's "right where it is." lol :D
"PIV..OT"...qutoe from Ross, Friends tv show...the couch stuck in hallway.

Peed myself laughing, been there done that...

Did you take pictures?

We have a sectional where we had to remove the stairs railing to fit it, and we hope the next owners love it sooooo much they can keep it...LOL.
Lol I like the idea that the boys are guarding "their couch".

Oh speaking of couches I love the one the Friends used in the cafe..wonder what ever happened to it? ha ha

Here's Panda in HIS heated massage chair.

Image

You can see why by this photo taken last year, I really need a couch that I can call my own. Hey least since that photo was taken I did purchase a new coffee table!
Image Look each couch/chair comes with it's own dog! Blue is over on the love seat but hard to see in the pic. Thinking they were so thoughtful they left the round couch/dog bed for me!

Marianne and the spoiled boys
Marianne, that picture is PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again I say........... PLEASE DON'T LET Tasker know that other sheepies are allowed on the couch
I know Ginny..sigh terrible habit and I'll try not to let Tasker and Ty know what goes on in my house.

Image

Marianne and the boys
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tasker sees that picture............I'm SUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 I can keep a secret 8) but dunno about Merlin..he's got a big mouth.

Marianne
We always called our couch "the throne". We don't own one now and the dogs are lost without it.

Marianne
It's ok, Tasker already knows he has the meanest Mom in the world
Ginny!!! Look what I found today...thinking I don't need a new couch or loveseat afterall..maybe I should just get covers for it! Besides Blue is going to be 18 this month and often uses the slight jump and drag method to get up to his favorite spot which is how my cushions got wrecked in the first place.

http://www.couchbag.com/makeovers.html

Pss Tasker says no such thing..he thinks your the best mom in the world! :hearts:
I have couch covers from a different company, but look very similar to those pictured. They work wonderful. They fit well and stay in place. They look more updated than the upholstery on them. Best of all I can take them off and WASH them! In a multiple dog and kid house, that is mandatory. 8O
Great Idea

The only drawback is that couch covers only work if the couch you are covering is worth saving............ My couch is pretty much D-E-A-D, I have a piece of plywood under the cushions to give them support, which makes the cushions scoot off the couch. A SAD state of affairs

THIS is the year of the new couch, I can FEEL IT
Ginny,
until you get your new couch you can put some rubbery stuff (they make it for drawer liners, cost about $3-$4) on top of the wood and this will keep your cushions from slipping. We had to do this with our leather couch....the cushions kept slipping off the couch !

OH OH OH What a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll try that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah - I do have those between the sofa frame and the cushions that sit on top. It saves lots of shoving them back in! I have a section under both the couch and loveseat cushions. I bought mine in big sections - for making throw rugs not slip. I just wash them when I wash the covers - they get good and grippy again!
