Biggest Loser

Every year the city I live in has "Dairyfest" in June. This year, to get local businesses involved they have come up with a version of that show "The Biggest Loser". The winning team gets to be pulled on a float in the Dairyfest parade by the losing teams. I don't wanna be on one of the losing teams - anyone have any suggestions for healthy weight loss tips? My first weigh in is Monday and then the 15th of every month until May - last weigh in is May 31st.

What kind of weight loss program will you be following, or is it pretty much up to you?

Sounds like they've set up a nice challenge for you!!! Good luck!
There are a few of us who will be following a low carb diet
Make your carbs the good carbs, veggies and fruits. Trash the wheat and white rice, white potatoes. Keep the oats, barley, brown rice.

Exercise every day even if it is just walking 20 minutes; however 2-3x a week go for a big workout, bike ride, gym, etc.

Water, water, water to keep your skin beautiful and your hands off the food.

Eat 5x per day, but mini meals, think small meals...but with a good salad twice a day if possible. Always have a protein with your carbs, even if it is a small ground turkey meatball

No, I wouldn't want to pull the float either.
My tips are:

Eat everything in moderation. If you deprive yourself of a certain food group (sugar, carbs, whatever) you aren't going to be able to stick with that forever, so you'll most likely end up gaining the weight back because of unreasonable food restrictions. Overall, it's calories that matter, so to lose weight you need to be taking in fewer calories than you are using. It takes 3500 calories to gain (or lose) a pound.

Cut back on fat...Don't eat fried foods...Use lowfat or nonfat dairy products (nonfat milk has 90 calories per serving and no fat compared to 130-150 calories and 5 grams of fat per serving for 2 or 1%).

Get your salad dressing on the side and dip your fork into it. Don't eat the creamy dressings.

Don't drink soda...especially the regular kind, but even diet has been shown to increase hunger...but drink diet if you have to. Cut back on alcohol. A regular glass of red wine has about 90 calories and the types of sugar in alcohol break down in the body more rapidly as fat, even though alcohol itself has no fat.

If you are a snacker...try substituting your regular snack for a healthier one, like veggies and hummus or popcorn. Also, if you pre-portion out your snacks, that makes it much easier because when you have a bag of chips, it's easy to just keep grabbing and soon you'll have eaten way over the serving size, which is sometimes as small as 7-11 chips. If you portion things out into baggies, you'll at least know how many you've had.

Use a measuring device, like a measuring cup for things like your pasta portion or for your cereal in the morning. It helps keep you honest and, again, even if you end up eating 2 cups of something, you'll know about how many calories you ate.

Exercise. Any little bit of exercise helps...I've always been able to keep weight off pretty well, but about 2 years ago I got 'stuck' at a certain weight that was about 5 pounds above what I wanted to be at...started a more regular exercise regime and the weight flew off--it not only tones and makes you look and feel better, but it boosts your metabolism, so you'll burn more calories while just sitting around. Oh, and avoid those Gatorade and other workout type drinks. Unless you work out a TON, like in training for something, the average gym-goer doesn't need a drink like that to replenish their system.

And once you start exercising, don't eat more while you're still trying to lose weight. Many people think because they spent 20 minutes on the treadmill, their metabolism is up and they must have burned a million calories and can reward themselves, but that's not true at this stage.
JUST SAY "NO".....to certain dangerous items...
Just Say No.......yeah, that's my problem..... :) too much of a yes person :)

I agree wholeheartedly!! I do this to myself sometimes and it always backfires!
