Westminister

Anyone going to the Westminister Dog Show in Feb? I happen to live in NY and plan to attend as a spectator and was wondering if anyone else from here would be there? Would be fun to meet up!

Diane!

Great thread!

Not only are some people going, but Mandy is planning on showing Suzi there!!!

There is a thread about that trip in the "Members Only" section called: "Let's send Mandy away (to Westminster)", but we could also start a list of attendees here!

I am toying with the idea of traveling to NYC for a day myself.
I hope to attend, I am looking at a bus trip that will go for Tuesday but just found out that it doesn't arrive at MSW til 3:45 in the afternoon. It's really a trip for those attending the finals. I would like to be there whn Mandy shows so am looking into "alternative" plans.
Diane & Ginny, I will definitely be there. I can give you my cell phone # to try and rendezvous the day of the event. I believe there might be a couple of Michigan members coming down too???

Ginny, here is the web site for Westiminster http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/ The schedule link is on the left hand side. Old Englishes have an 11:00 am ring time in ring #2 (floor of the Madison Square Garden) on Tues, Feb 13th. Dare I say, usually ring times get pushed back a little dependent on how many dogs show up.

Just a little dog show etiquette, especially since Westminster is so crazy. It is usually very hectic the last 1/2 hour to 45 minutes leading up to ring time as final primping is happening so please don't be discouraged if other show OES people try to discourage you from getting near their dog. Please don't take it personally, it's just a bit stressful especially in NYC. Westminster is a benched show which means that all of the dog participants that day are stuck there until 5pm that night (like armed guards block the door) so everyone will be there for the duration. Plenty of time to hang out afterwards. Benched shows mean that there are aisles of dogs, each breed in their separate area, kind of like a big doggie grocery store. Old English will be on Bench # 16 A after they are done showing.

Also, I would strongly suggest buying tickets through ticketmaster soon. Usually Tuesday's tickets sell out faster than Monday's since "Best in Show" is the same night. If you don't plan on staying the evening, you can buy a general admission ticket which is the cheapest.

Woohoo! Third time's a charm!? Will Joan be accompanying you? Too bad you can't bring Mulligan.
When will Mandy be showing? I also thought about a bus trip. Would love to see her show.
11:00 AM RING # 2 , Tues., Feb 13th.

In the same ring at 9:45 Austrailian Cattle dogs, & Collies are on first.
Hope you have your camera ready Deb? Don't forget it, be lovely to see photos of around the ring . Sheesh sucks living so far away, Westminster and Crufts dog shows are my dream to go to one day.

Yes, Lisa, sure would love it if you could come & show your dogs too but that is such an awful long flight for them. NYC is only 1.5 hours from me anytime of the year even if you come out on a whim...

I'm working on getting a new camera because my camera is starting to die & stinks at taking indoor pics. Have to get on that. Usually the OES ring at Westminster is five people deep so maybe I can somehow sneak over where all the kennel help hangs out to snap some shots.
 They also have web feed on Westminster's web site that usually gets broadcast a couple hours after the breed competitions. They are basically recaps, but you get to see everyone.
It would only ever be just to watch, yep that is my dream. Our quaranteen laws just make it too impossible to get the dogs back home, they have to go into quaranteen kennels for a minumum of 1 month or longer. :?

WELL get that new camera and snap away

Have a great time too, I am sure you will. :go:
I can send Mandy some Mardi Gras beads and she can throw them to the crowd as she runs around the ring with Suzi.
I won't be there, but I'll be watching and cheering Mandy on!
You guys are making me jealous... I would LOVE to go LOL
Not this time though...
I'll be cheering like a madwoman though! :D

haha...I can send her some too. The boys got a TON of them at the Christmas parade when we were visiting ILs.
Doug and I talked about it on the way to work this morning. He said he would be willing to DRIVE DOWN so we can get there in time  . No I just have to figure out a way to get the dogs taken care of (looking for a dog sitter).
OH.. OH..I want to go!!! :excited: Can you imagine mandy throwing mardi gras beads 8O
I have grandpa puppy sitting that day  I am new to this forum...who is Mandy? Will that be her name on the show card? I want to know who to root for

I've been to the show many years ago and it sure was an experience and very hectic...and LOTS of stuff to buy!!!

As we get closer, email me personally and we'll figure how to meet. Can't wait!
Diane
I wish I could go too. I've been wanting to attend this show for years and especially now that Mandy & Suzi are going!! I wish I were closer and a day trip would be feasible. :?
I think I will be able to go, do you buy your tickets right there? I am going in to work this morning to see if I can get my schedule changed around, I don't think it will be any problem. Any tips from anyone about things to do when I get there and where to go, how far ahead of time I should get there?
It would be great if we could figure out a rendevouz time and place after Mandy's class.
That would be great :!:
Mandy (forum user name: Maxmm) will be showing.

CH CAPRICORNS CLASSIC COMMOTION

Call name: Suzi. Not sure what her arm band # will be yet.

Diane, if you look up her by her user name or click on my little camera icon as I've taken a bunch of pics of she & Suzi, you can see pics of what she looks like so you can spot her out in the crowd.
I'm such a dork....I won't be in NY until Feb. 15th  . I'll miss
meeting all of you.

Rats!
I will be attending and would love to meet up with everyone. I'm trying to convince my husband he should play hooky from work and come too!! I'm glad the sheepies are early in the day, because the later it gets the more crowded and crazier it gets. Make sure you get your tickets in advance.

Just thought I would post this link, as aquiring a ticket this late may not be easy.

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/20 ... ckets.html
Actually, it's really easy to get them through Ticketmaster.com still. You just can't get good seats for the group shows & best in shows that evening.
Oh ok, that's good news then :)
David Frei posted elsewhere that if people are wanting to go they should hurry to buy their tickets, the last 2 years they have completely sold out.
Just wondering...is anyone still going to be NYC on Feb 14th? My daughter and I will be coming in that day.
Does anyone know if it will be airing on any major networks or Canadian tv stations?

According to the Westminster website, it is airing on USAnetwork, which I don't think we get in Canada.
No we won't get to see it in Canada for some time...
I think it was 3 months later last year, and we only got an edited shorter version.
I'm just glad we can watch it on the website.
You'll be able to watch breed judging online. Here's the webcast for last year: http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/20 ... .html#herd
Groups and Best in Show are only aired on the network or sold on tape.
I want to go. If I buy a GA ticket can I see everything that goes on that day?(if I can even see from the nosebleed seats!!) like best in show at the end of the day?? Also I may stay mon and tue night and the only hotel I can find (and afford) is at 234 W 48th street about 14 blocks from the show. Will I have to refinance my home to take a cab??I don't have a clue 8O

Any input will be appreciated!!
A GA (general admission) ticket will get you down on the floor ring side during all of the breed judging throughout the day (standing room only) plus you can walk around the benching areas & grooming areas. So if you get to the ring early enough you can pat Mandy on the back when she runs Suzi around the ring. ;) The nose bleed seats only apply to the Group & Best In Show judging which starts around 8pm that night. So basically all of the breed winners during the day will advance to the night time group events which broadcast on the USA channel.

Regarding the 14 block cab, I would say you are looking around $5-$6 plus tip for the ride.

OK!!!! I am going :yay:
I hope everyone has a great time there.. and Mandy and Suzi win!!!!!

Just a thought.. how will everyone know each other....should you guys wear something agreed upon so you can recognize each other as OES.ORG forum members....

a button, or badge that say..Ï belong to OES.ORG....
I'll be the one with the sheepdog and the brush!
Good luck Mandy and Suzi!
I will be the one in the cheap seats!! It was all that was left!!
