Barney went to the dog park!

I went with a friend and her Vizslu dog to the dog park today because we are having unusually warm weather for January...It was so much fun! Barney and Cooper had a blast together. Barney and Cooper had only met once before about 2 months ago, but they seemed to recognize each other (we came separately and they 'randonly met' in the park) and ran around together for a lot of the time.

Barney just kind of trotted around, met some dogs, pooped a LOT (my friend asked if it was normal how much he was pooping! ) and would stop by any and all people for pets and would camp out next to especially good petters.

He is super tired right now (the cat even came up to him and was poking at him to see if he was still alive) and a little muddy, but all in all a very good day! Oh, and we saw so many varieties of dogs, from a black and white Newfoundland to a German Shepherd with a peg leg!

Barney does the same thing as Bosley at the parks... including the excessive pooping

Glad to hear he did well!

I think the black and white Newf's are Landseers (sp)...aren't they? No Komondors???
Glad to hear you guys got to go to the park. Yuki normally goes at least once if we take her herding, long walks, or plays heavily. Even if she already did her normal 2 times.

I love your avatar. Been meaning to tell ya, but couldn't find an appropriate thread!
I am so jealous of you all that have fenced dogs parks. We have one dog park about 1/2 hour away and you aren't allowed to be off leash (which kind of defeats the purpose.

There has been alot of discussion and debate in the city about a fenced park but no action.
Glad Barney had a great time at the dog park. With my trio as soon as we get to the park I immediately grab a handfull of bags and walk around behind them.

Was going to take them today but at 8 this morning it was 70 degrees already, very humid and raining. So no dog park today :(
Amazing what a little exercise does for the bowels 8O

I'd make sure the "good friend" shows up quite frequently......always good to have a buddy.
Barn isnt the only one to have mighty poops at the dog park...very unladylike, but Panda tends to have a couple...and most of those arent ''normal''...is it the excitement that causes loose stools at the dog park?

btw....glad barns had such a great time...next time you must bring your camera!
FUN! I'm glad you got to have a good time!
Yay Barney! Sounds like he had a wonderful time! As long as you look out for potential dangers from unsocialized dogs and their stupid enabler owners, dog parks are so great. Is the park convenient? Will he get to go back soon? Nothing makes a dog as tired than playing with another dog.

Black and white newfs are still newfs... landseer refers to the color pattern :)
Only in FCI are Landseer's a breed of their own.
Clyde loves the park, too. Did Barney act like he was doing everyone a favor by allowing them to pet him?
He's just an overexcited boy, you wonder where it all comes from in the end 8O

Oh poor barney, he can't help it, he is all worked up and having a hoot of a time. You go Barney Boy. LOL

Black and White Newfoundland is a Landseer, they also come in Chocolate too. Both are not as common as the black ones. I had one years ago, great dogs, but boy the slobber/drool factor HIGH. 8)
Hurray for Barney!! :go: Sounds like he had a great day at the dog park! I think they all poop more than normal when they get that added excercise.

I've never seen a black & white Newfie. I'll bet they're pretty, huh?
Okay, I've got some pictures now!

Here's Barney and Cooper meeting for the first time of the day at the park.

There's a whole lotta sniffing going on...

Hubby was NOT happy that I took the opportunity to put Barney's hair in pigtails. The rubber bands were BLUE, though...and he's wearing a football jersey!

Just running with the pack.

could you have made the pictures any smaller steph?? I know im getting older and the eyes are going...but this really doesnt help :D
They are big for me...MY eyes seem them just fine...Actually I don't know why they are smaller? Anyone, anyone??
They look like you dragged a thumbnail version instead of a regular size.
I didn't!! How do I fix it!!!

I copied the pictures from my friend's website, so maybe that's why?
That could be. I'd just upload the originals and ask Ron nicely to switch them for you.
but i don't have the orginals
How did they get on your friend's web site? I'll bet he or she shrunk them down to save space on the Web server. Maybe that person still has them. Lol. I'm trying!
It sounds like Barney had a good time!
I love the pigtails.

but... isnt Barney a boy? Good grief, you, tasker's mom, and who else... will have to put your dogs in a identity crisis for club if this keeps happening!

Wait until I have a boy... then I'll be eating my words once his hair gets long. I talked to Mr. J this morning on the phone, and he asked if I was ready for another baby because he was. I said furbaby??
I'm so glad Barney got to have a fun time. :go:
Looks like Barney had a great time. Yep, the pics are small! But they are better than none.
Chewie goes around to get attention from the people 1st, then plays with the pups. He has many dogs brothers at home, so the people are the big draw for him.
Simon is the pooper at our house. He runs and poops, until he is pooping nothing. He looks silly~ .

They are pigtails on a girl.

Devil horns on a boy!

That's a MUCH better alternate name...I was calling them pompoms...that's not very manly at all!

I wish the park was a little closer to me--it's about half an hour from my house. I was very impressed with how Barney interacted with all the dogs and all the people. The only thing was that he ignored me a few times when I called him. My friend just laughed.

All the owners seemed very responsible and were paying attention to their dogs and whenever there was any sort of scuffle between the dogs, all the owners were right there in an instant.

Now that I've been I'll definitely be going back.
Fred also poops constantly at the dog run. I think it is a combination of the excercise and the over excitement that activates his bowls. I bring my own bags but our park has these poop mitts too. Who thinks of these things?

He also is a greeter and spends more time hamming it up for the other pet owners than running. He enjoys playing with a golden doodle and a great dane. He has dog park friends. It's funny that dogs like people can make assesments about who they mesh with and who they don't easily.

:O)
I'm always happy to hear sheepdog making friends. Without their tails, other dogs have a hard time judging a sheepdog's intentions. If their eyes are covered, even more so, "you lookin' at me huh?"

Sounds like we have a herd of well adjusted, fun loving sheepies who love to play at the park.
