Chewing on Paws

hi. I am curious as to why our oes girl is chewing on her paws. She will continue chewing until we distract her wih somethign else. The fur on her front paws have turned an orangy color now. Could it be allergies or frustration?

It could be allergy related. If it is behavourial that is a hard one to break and takes time.

You could try and put some socks on her paws to stop her constantly licking them, trouble is when they start, the constant moisture usually makes secondary things happen, like a wet dermatitis inbetween the pads so they keep licking.

Try the socks, at least that way it helps to keep it dry and might help to stop her sucking her paws.

I also used a baby nappy rash powder when I had the problem with one of mine, hers was to do with hormones from hell  , sprinkled it between the pads then put socks on. It helped and kept inbetween the pads dry and the socks stopped her from constantly sucking that area.

You can also spray some bitter apple onto the outside of the sock, that helps too if they try to pull them off.
My husband uses the bitter apple lisaoes referred to ...found at any pet store.

my vet gave us an aloe vera spray to help calm any itchness, so we use that too. That usually works for us combined with stopping her EVERY single time.

we've also received wipes to clean out her wet paws and a solution given to iditarod dogs (to dry out the area causing a yeast infection from licking). I think it helps clear the area up, but eventually she starts back up. We're still working on it!
Both paws? Only one? How old is she? Has she been seen by the Vet recently?

Is she putting the whole paw in the mouth or just a bit, like just the nails? Is she putting the whole thing in up to the "wrist"?
Not to hijack the thread but recently received an email from Marcus' furever family and he is doing the same thing. The vet said it was a fungal infection. Not sure what medications or what they are going to do to clear it up so I am watching all the responses so I can respond to the email.
Hi,
Here's some previous threads that might be helpful.

I'd sure be looking into a food allergy.........quite common.
