Help in trimming nails

I just gave up on trimming Miley's nails after the wresteling match on 1 paw and I did not get all the nails.

My question is what postion should the dog be - sit, stand, etc?

Miley is now 7 months and will let me brush her paws but we struggle with the nails. She is way to wiggly. My hubby tries to help by holding her still but we can tell she does not like that so we stop.

I am sure part of the problem is me! I am so anxious of cutting her quick that I think she can tell.

Also I usually end grooming with trimming the nails because I hate doing it. I am wondering if I should separate nail trimming from brushing. She is doing great at letting me brush her and has learned to relax and fall almost asleep while I brush her "sides". I am so happy that I have made good progress there that I don't want to end grooming on a difficult note.

Thanks for the advice.

I do nails while they are on the grooming table, but they're used to it so it's not a problem....
I do think even for a difficult dog it would be easier with the dog laying on his or her side. My parents dog hates his nails done, REALLY hates it, but we get him to lay on the floor, someone rubs his belly while I trim LOL It works. LOL
Good idea on belly rubs. Miley loves those! We will try again tomorrow - maybe I can do a paw a day.

Thanks
Take him to PetSmart of one of those type of places where they do grooming. They'll do the nails for about $8 and you'll never have to worry about stressing about it again!
We only recently started having a problem with
trimming Tucker's nails. He was always the easy
one to do, and now... well he certainly isn't easy.
I'd be afraid to take him to petsmart to have it
done - simply because I'd rather not have him
chew somebody else's face off! I guess my only
other option is to have him chew Vic's face off
instead. He actually gets growly and snappy!
I have been trying to get them all but I am finding
that there are a couple I must never be getting
because they are really long. I know this is really
not good for his feet, but I don't know what to
do about it.
Zeke is the easy one now - Tucker is ousted again!

I just go to a groomer and he charges me $5.00 per dog.
He also trims the feet hair. Save me a lot of headaches. :D

If I am able to get the dogs on the grooming table I do it myself.
If they are snappy and growly, they can muzzle the dog too. Zoe HATES having her nails done, but at a groomer she tolerates it. So I know it is probably me. They have a head sinch too to act like a free hand, with only 2 hands I can hold her still, hold a paw, and trim.

Remy on the other hand, dislikes it, but doesn't pull away. She prefers lying down too verses standing.
I had been taking Miley to the groomers for the nail trims, but the last trip did not turn out so well. So I thought I would try to do this myself.

Miley is young so if I can get it down now I would like to try. Some friends advised having her stand would have her less wiggly but she seems more wiggly that way. We were able to trim our flat coat retriever with black nails but he was not as wiggly or I have forgot how to do a puppy.

Thanks again for the help.
