yikes

Ok, Mopsey has been with us for almost two weeks! Doing good! So we have decided to give her a nice bath! Well!!!!! She fliped out! Didn't like that at all. After the bath we let her airdry and decided to brush her so she looks nice and fluffy! Again, freaked out! :o Does not like it one bit. She squirmed, and cried, and tried to run. Any suggestions?

well mickey loves baths HATES being brushed.i went and got one of those rubber brushes, they dont take out knots, but will get him/her used to being brushed.i was useing a slicker brush on him,but he did the same thing cried wiggled bit the brush,so i went to the pet store and found this and he seems to not mind it,so im hoping it gets him used to being brushed.
walter hates baths as well, and used to hate being brushed. now i spread peanut butter on the walls in the shower and crush milkbones and put them on the shower floor, hes usually pretty excited about that and lets me wash him.
as for brushing, i took the advice of other people on this message board and went slowly, and gave lots of praise when he sat still. try brushing very lightly at first and praise non-stop. this usually relaxes walter and he lays on his side and i can brush harder. but i started out with 5 minute sessions and slowly went up to 15 and now i can brush him for about 25 minutes before he gets antsy. go slowly and make it fun for both of you- if you stress out she will sense it and probably get antsy as well.

just be patient!
Max is the same way, but he's getting used to the bathes. He doesn't like them, but he has realized now that he does not have a choice. Now the brushing he still can't stand, and he is now a year old. I have tried giving him greenies, which he loves, when I brush him, etc. but he still tries to bite the brush and he won't sit still. So recently I had his hair cut because he was getting matted. I wish had suggestions, but none here.
Take it slow! I would recommend getting her used to the water first. Put her in and take her out - give her a treat. Try it for a little longer the next time - until she gets used to it.

I would also start getting her used to being brushed - a few minutes each day. This is something that we all tend to forget about - until one day we look and they are matted to the point of no return. Brush her gently - even starting with just the back of the brush to get her used to it.

Grooming an OES needs to be part of their everyday lifes - so try and get her to learn to love it! Did your breeder offer any grooming tips? Make sure you have the right type of brush, etc.

Thanks, Kristen! I am doing what most have suggested here at the forum: brush her a little bit every day. I usually can get her to sit for about 5-6 seconds now. Then as soon i stop I tell her she is a good girl and give her a treat. So we shall see. My breeder said that she had no problem bathing her, but she used to put her in a sink and use the sink water prout (detachable) to wet her. We put her in a bath filled with some water and I think that freaked her out. SO next time, we will put her in a dry tub, and use the detachable shower head to wet her down and rinse. The breeder suggested we bath her each week so that she gets used to it.

I think that weekly baths is too frequent - unless you are just wetting her down without using shampoo, etc. I would not bathe her completely that often. JMO.

well i bought this rubber like brush, the slicker seems too be to prickly for him,so im useing this til he gets used to the whole idea...sorry about my brain lapse!!
