I went for a 1/2 hour walk today with the dogs.

Hey, we live in the country and never go for walks! This is something, because I had to drive into town to find a sidewalk! lol
I did a mile walk dvd :) It made me hungry so I ate a bag of chocolate chips

Went for a 15 minute walk on break instead of having a cigarette. This does not mean I have stopped smoking yet though.
Good for you Paula!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started food and exercise journal. Set car to autopilot to

This ranks high on the dorkmeter but it does work: Leslie Sansone's walking tapes. I have the 1, 2 and 4 mile ones and they aren't real strenuous. Anybody got any ideas for others that are low impact? I can't do stuff like pilates because I have a bad back and a plate in my neck.

Joan, you ROCK :)

I LOVE her tapes, I use them as a n alternative when I am sick of my eliptical and don't have the energy for kukuwana!!
Another 1/2 hour walk tonite. :rimshot: This time with Dixie in her no-pull harness. Hubby wants to do this every nite, now... 8O

So maybe with Dixie in her no-pull haress and Bosley with his gentle leader we will finally get them to walk nice on leash.... .in time for our summer camping trips....ESPECIALLY the one to see Brenda (Dudley) in Nova Scotia!...

Woo Hooo....me and hubby in our hot new bods!!! (not really, but just got carried away there for a sec...) :cow:
Holly, great to see you back. I missed you. I have the Leslie Sansone tapes and yes, they are a little dorky but I like them. Jazzercize tapes are dated but low-impact. I think most of them are out of print but you could try amazon (see Ron's post about how eos.org can get credit for ordering from amazon) or half.com. I also have a tape with Kari Richards and Linda Evans (!) that is divided into 3 sections and you can do one, two or all. I think it's called "Linda Evans, A New You." Don't be put off by the celebrity connection--it's actually very good.

www.videofitness.com reviews exercise videos. www.collagevideo.com also has reviews plus you can order from them.
A great place to try/borrow new exercise tapes/dvd's is the public library. If you really like it you can always find it and buy it or just keep borrowing a rotation of tapes from the library. If your library has a good selection it is nice because you can keep trying new ones and don't have to pay for them :D So that way...if you don't like it you have lost nothing.
I have gotten alot of very resonably priced DVD's from ebay. People buy them , don't use them and sell them on ebay.
Hi Holly,

Good to see you! :D Great suggestions on the low impact workouts.
The library does have lots of videos/dvd to 'test drive' first
before you buy. I have been taking Nia classes for about
a year. The former name was Non Impact Aerobics.

The new hip New age name is Neuromuscular Ingrative Action.
It is a kinesthetic dance movement workout. It has 3 levels
so it is adaptable for everyone. The reason I like it is
while being a fun workout, the different movements are used in
everyday life. I have found it has helped my creaky New England
joints alot. Everyday moving and lifting up items is alot easier.
They have a dvd, Global Unity which is newer . But the older
videos I love-its back to the 80's   . The music is
dated, the leotards are wild but the workouts are terrific.

Find something that is fun to do! The walking video sounds great!

A Very Happy New Year!!
ok, I'll be a joiner...lol

I already drink more water than is needed to float a ship. With all these dogs and no fence you'd think I'd be skinny...but alas....it isn't so.

Once upon a time I was exercising 6X a week for 1 hour on my Nordik trak eliptical (sp?) but then I moved to Canada without it and well....didn't take long to get out of the habit and start "treating" myself .....too many big changes all at once rather overwhelmed me.

Now that we are somewhat settled in the new house....I want to get back to ME time! I remember having to make it sacred or somehow it would always be taken up by something else ...of course...more important...so the mental "tape player" in my head has got to be changed to "this is my time and *I* deserve it".

Thanks for listening.....today I will get out with my doggers and take a longer walk than usual.
Hi Michelle!

So happy you have joined us :D A Very Happy New Year!
Love the motto -"This is my time and *I* deserve it! "

Keep up the good work!

:D
Today, a 45 minute walk with my Mom.

She is an experienced walker and leaves me in the dust.

As she walked down our path, she turned around and
said "Am I walking too fast for you?"
She is a great personal trainer-2 years post Coronary Bypass
surgery.
Yesterday (Wednesday) I did a 20 min. brisk walk, groomed Bob and did 15 minutes of yoga. Today was a 20 min. brisk walk. Haven't done any evening stretches cuz it's still daytime.
I did the 2 mile walking tape....and no chocolate chips :)
Another 30 minute walk tonite....in the rain!

Even the pooches are getting better, and hubby is starting to pick up his pace..
Dance dvd 60 min.

strength training 30 min.
uh...exercise...uh....well....does shopping count?

Promise I'll do better starting Monday....(sounds like "the check is in the mail" excuse)

I haven't been sleeping well....I'll have nightmares all night or I wake up at 3 in the morning and can't get back to sleep! So I really do need to get back into the routine and save my slumber time.

I have been really good with the foodie! Went to a product launch today with my company and they gave us samples of new stuff. They had this wonderful bar! Mint Chocolate...mmm my favourite! Thank goodness it's good for you and only has 120 calories. So I get it into the car..open it...take a wiff....AWWW...it smells heavenly....unfortunately the kids are in the back seat...so I offer a sample....hand them a small piece each and they look at it like it's gonna bite them...then Kassidy takes a wiff....and does the AWWW...and gobbles it up...shoot...now they are hooked....but hey...wait! These are MINE to help ME lose the weight! Maybe I'm not that happy they make them so tasty....lol.

So...promise (hand over heart) to get my butt on the Nordic Trak on Monday morning. Will be checking in again then.

Started Sonoma Diet today. Very similar to the Mediterranean
diet, so I think it will be a good plan for me. :cheer:
Hey! I actually got on my Nordic Track today! 25 minutes and it didn't kill me! woo hoo!

Onward and upward!
I haven't been posting daily, but at least 1/2 hour walk every day...rain or shine. :)

I don't get it, but my husband, who NEVER excercises or does sports of any kind, insists on our walks every nite. We never did anything of the kind before, so I am a bit confused.

But it is good for us, the dogs love it....and every bit helps.

Of cource when we go to the store he still has to find the parking spot that is closest to the door
ok, another day on the Nordik Track....wow....two in a row....I'm on a roll here!

:D

How's everyone else doing? We woke up this morning with snow!?! I thought we were skipping winter..lol.
Nia dance 60 min.

Walk 45 min.
Well, today I did 35 minutes of Fat burning Pilates ( a video) and 40 Minutes of weight training. I would be doing 45 minutes on the eliptical, but my sneakers went MIA and the treads are not exactly bare foot friendly.

I have also been trying to keep my food consumption down a little.. growing up with a Marine.. I had to keep up! Now I realize I don't need that much food.    I sure like it though!

This will hopefully keep me honest though! LOL

Nic
Took today off from exercise, invited Bogart for a ride.
Let him run off energy chasing a ball, and enjoying the day.
Cold windy sunshiny day today. This can't last forever.

Will get back on track tomorrow. :D (Picture halo over smilie)
Today I was going to take off, but i thought if I posted what I was doing, then I would excersize anyway.

So, I did (saying it in past tense seems to help me  ) 35 minutes of dance.

I signed up for the women's health 28 week challenge, and man! I am sore today!

food consumption is doing alright....

Nic
Upped the Nordic Track to 27 minutes. Had a bit of a challenge this morning....I have an appointment in 15 minutes and really could have used that as an excuse not to do exercise today....but I'm so proud of myself...got the dogs out for potty...got Carl's lunch made and still exercised and got my shower before I have to leave! Feeling good...feelin' fine! lol

Go get'em ladies!
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Oh and telling you guys I did it, did make me do it!

Way to go with the "cruise control" Zahra!

And fantastic way of faking yourself out Nic....pretend you already did it! Good job on the completion!!!! :yay:
Took a walk into town tonite. Walking nice and brisk, then Dixie spooked at a realty sign swinging in the wind and cut across me. I tripped right over her, fell flat, right onto the sidewalk. I hurt my knee and scraped the palm of my hand....BUT still held on fast to the leash! Good thing, too, as we were walking on the main road in town...lots of cars...

On the way back we stopped into the local pet supply store and found leather leashes for sale.....75% off...so got a nice long beige one for $5.99 and a light nylon one for training, for $1....!

A bit sore, but not really hurt....I must have fallen slow or Dixie cushioned my fall!...Oh, and she is fine, too....
Wow, Nicole....so sorry to hear that you fell....how many times has that happened to me!?! They cut across the front of you....thankfully I've never gone down. We've trained our kids and ourselves to put leashes over our wrist and threw the hand...that way they are "locked" into position and it is rare that we drop a lead.

Great find on the leashes....wow...I'd be running out to get some myself...if I lived closer..lol So glad that everything turned out fine...although I'm sure you are sore. I say let's ban real estate signs that swing ...they are a hazard...but according to my afghan hounds so are garbage cans on the night before garbage pick up...spooky!

Take good care!
I worked on my truck with my brother from 2PM to 7PM when we had to stop and go get Joan who had lost her car keys soemwhere near the supermarket. By working, I mean he was under the truck and I was walking around on the outside of the truck fetching tools and holding things.

Doesn't sound like a lot, but for me lately it is.

Then I spent 2 hours searching for car keys on a supermarket parking lot.

Neither activity was fruitful. :(
Carl's wife wrote:

Global Pet Stores are clearing their stock making way for new stuff! So if you pass any in your travels...
I've spent half my life looking for car keys and walking around cars that are being fixed....and unless it's Carl under the car....I've never seen the car work again...lol....

Sorry about the keys....those darn things should have homing beacons automatically installed. Microchips....the wave of the future.

I keep telling that to my hubby when I lose my keys!! ( At least 2X a week.) You can only blame your kids so many times.
Ok, I fess up...I didn't do any exercise yesterday. But today I upped my time to 30 minutes on the Nordik Track....and it was not easy! lol

All of you make me feel so inferior....But I keep telling myself I'm only competing against ME.

Oh, and I bought a scale ...ooooo....that was not nice to find out I weighed what I thought I did (right back where I was 6 years ago)! ick....ok...I've done this before I can do it again....I just never want to have to do it again! This skinny...big...skinny...big has got to stop. I'm such a stress eater....but on the bright side I really do love to exercise.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Don't feel inferior! My last workout post, was meant to be another psych out, but it didn't work.. I had a huge knot in my back and I spent the day on a heating pad :( But I did do that workout the next day. and yesterday I did the FBP video.

I am trying to recover form my holiday binge! I am a mmmmmm this tastes good eater. I try to deprive myself of say.. sugar and chocolate, but when my self imposed time limit is up and I can have some.. OOOOWWWEEEEEE! I go crazy and eat all I can get my grubby little hands on! Portions are a big issue with me.

I am going to keep doing my workout and hopefully get back into my size 6's again! I hate it when NONE of the jeans in the closet fit!!

Today I am going to do my FBP (Fat burning Pilates) video, 45 minutes of weight training, and hopefully some yoga, as the knot in my back is trying to come back.

Nic
Oh, and I won't even look at a scale yet!
Ok, got my 30 minutes in this morning and boy was it difficult...I was going to go for 35 today...but :o

I have a friend's 3 boys over this morning (they belong to the same homeschool group as us) since she has acupuncture ( how the heck do you spell that...lol)today. Guess this will be a regular thing. They are NOT used to dogs...lol. We did a small meet and greet with them and then the poor doggers are in bed for a while.

Good luck everyone with today....we have snow!
Soul sweat dvd 60 min.

Strength training 30 min.
Uh...where is everyone? lol

Yesterday I was on the go from sunup to sundown so no "regular" exercise. This morning I upped my time on the Nordic Track to 35 minutes....and then ran out the door (well after a shower). I feel that I'm getting into a pretty good routine. I'll just keep adding minutes until I get back to the 60 minute workout that I'm used to doing on the NT.

Hope everyone is staying warm...we are so very very cold here!
I didn't check this thread out earlier. Since my mom has been here, I've been running again on the treadmill. I feel great. Today I did 30 min (like normal). Then I did 250 crunches. 5 sets of 50. I usually do 500 by the end of the night, so we'll see how that goes... It's hard to get back into a routine.

We're going to my favorite restaurant today, so..... I'm sure I'll gain 2lbs the second I walk in the door.
Geeze! I keep forgetting to post! LOL  I have ket up with my workout though.

I did 35 minutes of cardio on monday, and I did 35 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weights tuesday.

500 Crunches??? My goodness!! Now I feel inferior! LOL!

Nic
ok, here I am...I did 38 minutes this morning on my Nordic Track....and had a marathon afternoon on the phone..but I don't think the phone really burned any calories...lol....but at least my business grew....and THANK GOODNESS I didn't...lolrof

Any one else out there?!?
20 min. treadmill.
250 crunches (250 tonight is the plan)

ate at benihana's yesterday, so i imagine i gained some weight.

my mom is making her own sushi today and then my favorite tofu stuff.
Yesterday was a dayoff for me! Today will be 45 minutes on the eliptical, and 45 minutes for weights.

I am so glad i got my kiddos on a sleeping schedule. otherwise I would never get to exersize!!

500 crunches..... man! I still can't get over that!! Now you are making me really want to get at least 100! LOLOLOL

Nic
A few days off, now back on track :D

Soul sweat dvd

lotte berk video 30 min
Today is FBP cardio for 35 minutes.

(I can't do 45 minutes on the elliptical everyday yet.. everyother suits me just fine for now. )

Nic
I read through the various posts here and now I feel like a SLUG!!! I lost 25lbs last year, basically just by knocking sugar out of my diet (I was mostly consuming this in the form of heavily sugared COFFEE...) and by going for daily dog-walks. Since x-mas, however, I've been sick with the unending FLU-OF-DEATH and have barely left my house...(thus, all the unaccustomed computer-posting :) ) I can see now that its past time to get my (rapidly expanding) butt moving again! Thanks from me AND my very BORED pups!
GOOD LUCK RAVENMOONART! :D

I am so proud of myself. I never run outside b/c it's too cold, but I ran for 40 minutes this morning! ...had to take advantage of my mom being here.

I haven't done crunches yet.

My mom just made some fresh kimchi for me! Now I'm waiting for the korean meat to finish so we can pig out for lunch!

Yikes! Never mind the cold, how did you keep from slipping and falling??? I took my walk with Bert last night, and it almost turned into skijooring!!! The roads in my neighborhood are slick, slick, slick...Enough wimping out for me though, I'll just take Abby today since she doesnt PULL...l
Luckily behind my house is a light layer of snow, no ice! It's along the bike path along the highway. Our street definitely just has thick ice and is slippery ...even if it has dirt and stuff to prevent slipping. Those things you attach to your shoe to prevent slipping helped too. :D
I have to work out inside, b/c my hubby works long hours, and I don't wanna run in the dark.. 8O

But hopefully come summer, I'll be out in the daytime since it's daylight until 12:00!

Today, I'm gonna either do the elliptical (shoe problem lingers... ) Or FBP video , power yoga video, and 45 minutes of weight training.
Pilates 30 min today

GO PATRIOTS !
Well, I did'nt actually EXERSIZE per-se today...but...I let my niece drag me to a bridal fair where I got a pretty strenuous work out dodging all the frantic young brides-to-be and aggressive, sharp-elbowed mothers 8O Also I think I deserve much extra-credit for valiently passing by EVERY one of the wedding cake samplers!!! :D :D :D

wedding cake is the best! kudos for not sampling them all!!!

i just did 250 crunches this morning. no jogging this morning.

had an entire large pizza for breakfast though. :? I WAS HUNGRY and I didn't want the few remaining slices to sit in the fridge. They'd get lonely. :)
Yesterday I did 35 minutes of cardio (Fat Burning Pilates video) . Today it's FBP and Weight training (45 minutes)
Sorry I've been MIA...I did something to my back on Thursday and just now feeling like a human. so no exercise...:-(

Plan on being back on Nordic Track tomorrow. On the bright side I lost 2 more lbs. yipee! lol

Pizza in the house is a very dangerous thing....good for you for getting rid of it...lol.

and wow...no wedding cake samples...I'm impressed!
Did a 40 min. walk up the mountain behind our property...ok, so a 20 min walk UP (gasp..wheeze) and a 20 min. slide DOWN. I'm quite pleased with myself, and Bert was an absolute ANGEL...no pulling or yanking on the leash, even when a rude neighbor dog ran out barked at us! This daily walk is doing us BOTH a lot of good!
Walking 60 min.
Ttapp workout 45 min
Well...woke up this morning and my leg was just weird...so no workout today...:-(

Zahra....wow...Ttapp is wonderful....great for that core strenghtening. I used to alternate Nordic Track with Ttapp and was in wonderful shape! I want that body back...and by gum, I'm gonna get it!
Carl's wife said--

Zahra....wow...Ttapp is wonderful....great for that core strenghtening. I used to alternate Nordic Track with Ttapp and was in wonderful shape!

Hi Michele,
You are right, it is great for the core strength.
It's an interesting workout as she is an exercise physiologist
by trade.

She has a website now- www.ttapp.com

I love her new book, it explains alot of the moves
and why you should be moving that way.

My favorite was always the pretzel twist :D

Hope you feel better soon!
Hour-long walk up the mountain today, along with Eggbert and my best friend Karla and her jack russel Kalohe...amazing how a little competitivness can encourage you to go farther!
I was busy today so I didn't get a chance to do anything. Our Brigade experienced 8 deaths, 4 of which were in Mr. J's Battalion, so it's caused a small uproar. I will try to walk for 30 min. tonight and get 250 crunches in.
yikes...Jo, is Mr J okay? I'm always thinking of you guys...
Thanks Barney. I'm really shook up myself over this last attack. Mr. J emailed me saying he'd call soon. He said he will explain how this recent tragedy relates to him, and left it at that. Well jeez... don't worry me or anything honey. 8O It was the third deadliest attack since the war started. Anyway, I'm okay and glad to hear my husband and his friends are well.
Joahaeyo: So sorry that you have this to worry about. I can only imagine how that feels. Take good care and keep us updated!

I'm still OUT of the exercise ring...darn...this is so discouraging.
I did my crunches (250 last night) and made up yesterday with extra cardio this morning!

Good going everyone!!!
I just got back from a 45min. walk. Not quite a good as yesterday, but today I didn't have a skinny, athletic friend to urge me along!
ravenmoon, I'm so impressed!!! WOW, it's cold outside too!!!

Quote:
I want that body back...and by gum, I'm gonna get it!

That's the right attitude Carl's wife!!!

I just ran for 25 minutes on treadmill, and just finished my 500 c. I never do more than that, so my posts won't be too exciting. I can only do what I enjoy (what I don't consider hard or work).
Yup. Snow's starting to come down in bucketfuls now too...great...just great
Speaking of all the snow we've been getting the past few days...

someone has been shoveling my snow!!!!

Once winter started, I LOVED shoveling. I felt like I accomplished a lot when I got it all done, and I liked a nice shoveled driveway! Then after we got dumped with a few feet of snow (around the time CO was getting hit), my back went out. So bad that I just gave up shoveling... The snow was getting so high though that it was hard to pull out of my driveway and Yuki had to deal with swimming in snow.

Well, a secret Santa started doing it EVERY TIME IT SNOWED!!! OH MY GOSH!!! I couldn't figure out who it was and today I saw my neighbor hurry back in his garage from my yard. AWEEEEEE!!! Our driveway connects with another person who has a husband deployed (she's 8 months pregnant), so he's been doing there's too! SO SWEET! I will have to bake him cookies or something! Even sweeter considering he hates my neighbor (the one who is pregnant), but he knows our husbands are gone. :D :clappurple:
Wow!!! That is really sweet! :clappurple:
30 min walk...went the opposite direction from the usual, discovered that my sheepdog puppy is SCARED OF SHEEP...
lol raven....that's hilarious!
Did we all give up?

I've been swamped with taking care of OTHER people's kids in the mornings and I HATE to exercise in the afternoon or evening....it just doesn't happen for me then.

Gotta decide to get up earlier or something but Carl is such a night owl it's difficult to get to bed before 11 or 12...then up by 7.

GRR...I'm getting discouraged.
Carl's wife wrote:
Did we all give up?
Yeah...Ive been wondering about that myself! Come on everybody, post your excuses!

Mine is that I usually go for walks up the mountain, behind my house, but the repeated "thaw-freeze-thaw-freeze" cycle weve had recently has made the footing VERY treacherous...My best friend, Karla, was very proud of herself for getting out for her daily run...UNTIL she slipped and sprained her ankle! 8O Now were planning to go walking together today or tomorrow, since the sprain has slowed her down to MY speed!
LOL

Was wondering the same thing and secretly thinking "thank goodness..." because I haven't exercised since I stopped posting.

In fact,I have a crumb cake in the oven right now.

I'm going to get back on track TOMORROW though..

hard to get back into routine. did my crunches only today.
I'm crawling slow-motion back into my exersize routine as well! Shortish walks with the pups, yesterday & today...I'm feeling very inspired by the dog dancing video....thinking maybe of trying something like that out! It looks very aerobic!
I did 500 crunches and just started doing pushups. 2 sets of 20 on my knees. shoot, make fun... I don't care. It's been a long time.
500 crunches???

I'm not sure I could do that, even if we were talking about a certain cartoon Cap'n and a bowl of milk.

But I'd like to try...:D
That made me laugh!! My problem is I eat my share of food as well...
I have no problem eating an entire box of cereal, so I have to get cereals that don't make me do that. That cereal is one of my favorites (w/berries)!
