Anyone trained their dogs to wipe their own feet?

I thought this would be a very useful "trick," but I have absolutely no idea where to begin teaching this.

Walter's good about letting me wipe his paws after coming in from a muddy romp - however, if he could do it himsef on a towel or mat, that would be awesome!

Has anyone done this? Any other thoughts on how i might begin to teach this would be helpful.

Thanks!

I'd gotten Lucy to the point where I could get her to drag her front foot once by me pointing to where I wanted her to do it. I have found though, dogs have no idea when they're actually clean so a single wipe was as much as she'd ever do without me standing there coaxing and egging her on. It's much faster to just do it myself-- especially since I have 2 more dogs behind her waiting to come in!
I haven't trained them to actually *wipe* their feet, but I have something else that works pretty good if the feet are just wet. I have rugs by the back door, of course, but then I also put down a big towel between the rug and the entrance to the kitchen. I've trained them to walk to the towel and just stand there. I close the door and then walk past them to get them their cookie. I find that if they stand there on that towel for at least 30 seconds, most of the water is absorbed by the towel.

Of course, if the feet are very muddy, this doesn't work as well. But, I've recently bought muttlucks, so now if the weather is very bad, like today, I put them on before we go out. It's a bit of a PITB, but it sure keeps the floors a lot cleaner.
I think cleaning the floor is easier than putting 12 boots on! What size did you get for Beau, Tammy? The boys have such giant feet, especially with all the extra fur I was going to special order from Barb Lamb-- she even makes them for corded breeds.
  Yes, with twelve boots it is a toss up as to which is easier. I did that when Treasure was here.

I think Beau's are an XXL, but I'll have to check to be sure. I'll get back to you.

I didn't know about the ones Barb Lamb makes until after I'd bought some already, but they do look nice. Let me know if you order them how you like them.
I wanted to order some from Barb as well, just waiting to hear back how much shipping to Canada will be.
I like that her boots go all the way up the leg, almost to the elbow on the front.
I wouldn't bother putting boots on all of mine for everyday use, I just want a pair for shows.
I taught my first oes to sit on a mat at the door til she was dry. It was basically just a down and stay, but she eventually learned the down and stay when coming in the house was automatically expected.

With 4 oes, I just keep a mop handy
We didn't have much luck training Bailey to wipe his paws. Madison, however, wipes all her paws, dries off with a towel and brushes herself after every walk.

Just kidding, something to dream about though.

Merry Christmas!!
Good thing you put Just Kidding on that post. I was about to send you two more dogs!!

Jill - I checked the boots when I went home at lunch for their potty break. Unfortunately, there was no tag. But, I'm fairly sure Beau's are XXL - he has some very big paws. :)
What are these boots and where can I order some? They sound wonderful.

Thanks!
I never did hear back from them...
Hi,
I was able to teach my dog to wipe her feet, and it was pretty easy. When she gets excited, she scrapes her feet on the carpet. So, when she did that, I said "Wipe your feet," and gave her a treat. After several weeks, she would do it on command. The only time she won't do it is if it is dry outside, and her feet are dry. Then she gives me a look, as if to say, "I don't need to wipe my feet, they're clean!" It's a great trick if you can get them to do it!
