My breakthrough

All right...

So for the last 6 motnhs I've been struggling, trying to teach Pippin commands after puppy school. His sits have been just okay, his downs almost non-existant using the basic verbal commands. If there was no cookied in hand, forget about the downs. I had to have tried 15,000 times! But last night, tadaah! A break through! I tried using hand signals, instead of a verbal command, and BOOM! Suddenly Pip will do a sit or a down no matter how excited he is... And while his downs usually involve licking my hand to death, at this point I'LL TAKE IT! :yay:

I'm so proud of him for finally getting this :hearts: , and for me (dummy Karen) finally finding a training technique that he responds to! What a good boy, and why couldn't I have figured this out earlier????

Yay Pippin!

Go Kar!! Yey Pip buddy!!!

:yay:
Yeah! It's great when they finally 'get it.'

(Although, it might just be because he know Christmas is coming and he might not get presents if he's been naughty!)

Glad I'm not alone...here's for holiday miracles!
Woohoo Pippin!!! That's great :)
THAT IS AWESOME!!!

I know the "talking to a wall" feeling, so I'm SO HAPPY TO HEAR you had a breakthrough!! WOOHOO!!!!

Yuki and my maltese know sign language more than their voice commands.
Yay! Way to go Pippin :cheer: and way to go Karen on finding what works for him. :clappurple:
Good boy Pippin!
8) WOOWOO PIPPIN!!!!!!! 8)

(i find my dogs do better with hand motions also)
:cheer: :go: Hurray for Pippin!!! WTG Karen!! :go: :cheer:

My two respond better to hand signals, too. Not sure why, but they do. :?
Good deal! Clyde does everything by hand signal, too. He knows the words but the hand signal works the first time as opposed to a few tries with a word. Lucy used to be all verbal but now that she's losing her hearing, I'm trying to get her to learn basic hand cues so we can communicate better. At least when they learn them young, you'll always have that knowledge. I wish I had taught Lucy when she was younger.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Good job!
congratulations Pippin and Karen
Yes! Now if I can only figure out a good "don't jump on mom" hand sign!
