Those who shop on ebay...

are you aware that when you insist on being the highest bidder DAYS in advance, you only make what YOU pay more expensive for yourself?

you DO know that just because someone is the highest bidder for the moment, does NOT mean that they have won the item?

and

you DO know that just because you're the highest bidder, it does NOT put you at some advantage?

and lastly,

you DO know that one of the points of ebay is to save money?

Now I understand bidding in advance if.... you're not going to be around on the last day or if you don't really care if you win the item, but I don't understand when I see people come back every day to do the bidding war including the very last day of the auction. They end up winning the auction, but paying $20+ more than they had to because they insisted on being the alpha (highest bidder from day 1 of the auction to the last day of it).

I notice my family members doing this, and I don't get it even if I tell them they are screwing themselves over....

I rarely shop on ebay, but have been looking for some cheap used baby blankets on there (for the dogs), and was hoping to find bundles of 5 or more. At the prices they want, and then add shipping, it's just not worth it. That is my main problem with ebay. It costs so much to ship something it isn't worth it in the long run.
I love eBay, but do set a limit. I prefer not to place a highest bid, but to come back every so often. However, several times when I have placed an ultimate bid, it was not what I paid. For example, if my ultimate bid was say $10, often I've gotten items for less. Now waiting and rebidding has it's problems, I forget to go back.
Stacey try your goodwill store :D

I will be... actually I was discussing this with someone today, the Salvation Army here actually charges way too much money considering it is all donation used items... I understand it's for fundraising... but sheesh.
Anyway, I donate stuff to the local women's shelter because of that.

The biggest hangup I have with Freecycle is that I don't want those weirdos coming to my house. It's just not worth it to set up a meeting point, which would probably be equally creepy.
I am a freecycle member LOL And ironically enough a bunch of baby stuff was posted recently.... however they want the whole bundle to go, and only 5 or 6 receiving blankets LOL... also about 20 minutes from me...

Then don't offer anything away! Just take stuff to save it from going to the refill site, and you have to go to thier place. Or you can just leave it out on the corner for them to pick it up....maybe even someone else's driveway lol :D

But some of us weido's are actually nice people
I don't want anyone else's crap, though. I really just want to get rid of mine!

Actually, I think you can spot a weirdo just be the choice of items that they offer up. One person on my local list was offering a can of stew and some cough medicine that expired in a few weeks. Holy crap-- just throw it away!

I am still wating on Butterscotch to clean out her closet for the shoes :D
I heard she couldn't see the closet for the shoes.
I have two methods of bidding on ebay. If it is something that I really really REALLY want I will "watch it" and not bid til the last minute. If it is something that I would like t have but only if I get it under a certain price I will put a bid in when I find the item, regardless of the time left. I bid the maximum amount I am willing to spend and DON'T BID AGAIN. If I win the bid fine, if not I forget about it.

One thing I have found with last minute bidding is that you (I) frequently get caought up in the moment and bid more than I really want because of the excitement of the chase.

In the last couple three months I have had some "bad" ebay experiences, something I never thought I would say. I don't know if I have become careless or if my "e-bay" luck has run out but I am definately starting to become a bit sour on ebay. With 200+ transactions I guess it had to happen.

Yesterday I recieved a Merrymac in the mail that was smashed to pieces. The shipper had wrapped it in a plactic grocery bag, stuck it in an oatmeal box, wrapped it in duct tape and mailed it parcel post

This past weekend I bid (and won) four different items from the same seller. They were pieces of my china. Before bidding I sent a message to the seller and asked if she discounted shipping on multiple items. She replied that she "certainly" did. So I bid on four of her auctions. I won all four bids at my opening amount (historically these dishes have not been big sellers). When I sent a message asking for one invoice which included the combined shipping she replied that she never combines shipping on items that sell for the opening amount. SHe also canelled one of my bids telling me that one of the items had been mistakenly listed twice (a serving bowl) and she really only had one.

I am fairly certain that she was just mad that she didn't get more money for her items, not my fault.

And as you know from my previous posts, the ebay feed back system is intrinsicly flawed and worthless. I will not leave negative feedback for either of these sellers because it isn't worth receiving it.

My enthusiasm for e-bay has started to wane, I still think it is a great place to get some bargains but you definately need to be careful. I have also noticed lately many items selling for MORE than their retail price which amazes me, don't people know the actualy value of items being sold??

That being sai, I have gotten some great deals, Just yesterday I received a pair of Birkenstock shoes (a Christmas present for Doug) that retail for $200.00, I paid $40.00
