Ready For Xmas?

Oh my goodness, it's only 5 days till xmas 8O I'm not ready!!! LOL

I planned on being ready months before now, but of course, I wasn't.... so now here we are less than a week before xmas and I still have a lot to do to get my house ready for guests, and a ton of wrapping.
I at least got all my shopping done a couple of days ago  All at once too. LOL

Today I have to get started with wrapping it all. I haven't done any baking this year, and hardly any decorating. I finally got my tree up the other night, but I was so annoyed that my family seemed so disinterested that I only put 2 strings of lights and 16 silver balls on the tree.

Panda desperately needs to be groomed so I'm going to do that today as well.... she seems jealous of the pup so I think she'll really enjoy some one on one time anyway.

Anyone else a master procrastinator like me?   8)

Good luck LOL, and for once I have my shopping all done and not much wrapping to do cause I sent flowers to a lot of my family :D
I haven't done any baking yet either. My mom made gingerbread houses and the kids and I went there yesterday to decorate them with candy. I usually make sugar cookie dough for the kids to make cookies and I still plan on doing that either friday or saturday.

We had our tree up since Dec 10. Daddy took them out shopping and I put the lights on the tree, then the kids all decorated the tree. We usually have 4 or 5 trees up but this year we only got to 2. I thought I finished the shopping Dec 2, but I still have to get 2 teacher gifts(certificate for the local coffee place)and I still have a few things to wrap and I have to tag them all....I write a code on the gift and then tag at the last minute...I have lots of snooping eyes here!

Today I have to go to the store to return a few gifts that are not needed and I have to clean the house and of course laundry....that job is never ending. Tonight the kids have a kind of concert at their school...the parents walk from class to class to see the kids sing. My eldest decided she didnt want to participate so she will come with me. It is too early for daddy to make it to see them. As it is with the timing I will only get to see 2 of the kids....my eldest will go see the other kid's concert. As of this morning they were considering skipping the whole thing which would be fine by me.
Jean, flowers are a nice idea, I almost did that this year for a couple of people but I was afraid I'd kill the plants if they had to live with me the week before xmas

Kim, I'm buying Timmy's gift certificates too for teachers... I wonder how many of those they get each year?
Good idea coding the gifts... hmmm..... LOL
I loved the xmas concerts when they were little, but after a couple of years when you have 3 or 4 to go to it gets to be a pain. This year only one of my kids participated in his xmas concert, it was last night. I think it may be the last year for him too.
I did ALL of my shopping on Saturday for everyone, lol I still have to wrap though - Mom is going to keep the boys Friday night so I can get that done.

Brandon's birthday is tomorrow, so I'm focusing on that one right now. :D I have to wrap his gift for that and get his cake today.
I am almost ready for Christmas. Let me explain why, I am a hand weaver and try very hard to weave something for everyone on my list. So far this year I have woven Christmas table runners, kitchen towels, hand towels, a lacy shawl and now have a lovely men's winter scarf on my loom. The scarf is for my dear husband and I really need to get busy and weave! Miss Maggie our sheepie girl (also known as the Queen of Michigan) is my steady weaving companion and supervisor. Underneath a weaver's floor loom there tends to be a lot of dust bunny lint (comes from the process of weaving different threads). Maggie makes sure that she is under my loom as much as possible (she does not really fit) so I have the world's cleanest floor because my sheepie girl looks like a real lint head! Back to weaving and hoping that our adoption of Duke the rescue OES in Alabama comes home to us before Christmas. :D
Me - ready? Hardly!

I just got my cards out!

I'm not done shopping. I just finished cooking for my
sister's big board lunch, which really put me behind.
(totally MY fault, I am a master procrastinator)
I still have cleaning, my wash isn't too bad - it's running
right now. I have stacks of cookies to deliver, some for
my sisters(again my fault - I can't say no) I haven't
even done my decorating, and I just now remembered,
I have a Christmas tree on my porch waiting to be put
up.

But of course, here I am reading and posting on the forum.
I have no business sitting at the computer. I keep telling
myself it's ok to take a break!

I'm ready gift wise, the tree is up and all my decorating is done. But, thanks to a bunch of pain in the neck (not what I really want to call them) "younguns" I can't seem to pin down the actual Christmas plans, minor details like ARE we having Christmas dinner and WHEN or even WHAT we might be having
Ginny - you're too nice. When we were at that age my Mom told us when & where dinner would be served. If we were there on time, we got to eat. Otherwise, we had to heat up our own leftovers. :D I don't think any of us ever missed Christmas dinner. We didn't want to hurt Mom's feelings (or eat alone later). :D

Thanks but life gets a bit more complicated when you are dealing with two divorced families. I learned along time ago to at least TRY to "destress" the holiday for my kids by not putting to much pressure on them (the get enough pressure from their father). Doug has the same issue with his kids. So we tend to try to sit back and wit til the ex's have made their plans and then work with the time left.

Christmas is just a day on the calender, I don't really mind if we "celebrate" before during or after, it's just nice to have some kind of PLAN in place
I agree with Ginny...during the 10 yrs that Brian and I have been together, I think we have celebrated Christmas DAY together twice....with his job and being divorced with 2 kids, you just have to be flexable...

He is working this year so I am just making it easier and going over to his exwifes house for dinner :D Not only do I NOT have a kitchen in which to cook, but I had them over for Thanksgiving....

It has been a lot easier on all of the adults by just getting together....that way we can all have the kids!!............

and they have 4 parents to roll their eyes at
Darcy, I don't think WE could do that, there might be BLOOD SHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 I guess I fall into this category as well LOL

I am getting stuff done today though... but I bet I'd get more done if I didn't keep coming back to the computer to check the forum

That's so nice of you, and definitely makes sense. Now that my kids are a little older it's easier, but wow, the holidays meant nothing but stress for us when they were little. Having to be in so many places to see so many people, being off routine, tired, cranky, all the travelling... I hated all of it.
I always wondered why my family made us do all the travelling when it would have been so much easier for them to come to my place. I think it must be a right of parenthood or something LOL
Anyway, now that my kids are older I relish every holiday we can spend at my various family members homes... it's relaxing, the kids are always on their best behavior... and so nice to see my parents xmas decorations... a little taste of home and happy memories.

I can see us doing that when the kids are in college/uni and on their own... My husband and I get along very well with his ex and her family, and he gets along with my ex's family... just maybe not so much my ex.

WHAT?????????

:excited: :excited: :excited:
Very nice and quite mature of you Ginny & Darcy. :D

Fortunately, we didn't have that issue in our family. It was just us "kids" being wishy washy. We've long since settled into a routine that works for all the adult children and the grandkids. :)
Don't feel bad. I'm in the same boat. My trees been up for two weeks but I haven't decorated it because I need someone to help me get the decorations down from the shelf in the garage. And guess what. My tree died.

So now I don't know if I should keep it and not decorate or get another tree. I think what happened is they made a fresh cut when I bought it and then let it sit overnight before delivering it and so the cut sealed over so it's not drinking any water. I'm bummed. We have company coming too.

I just got the gifts in the mail for my family today. I still have a few more people to buy for and then alot of stuff to wrap. But I cleaned my house tonight so that feels good.

I was so excited a few weeks ago and now I am just blah blah blah.
Too late now but ALWAYS make a fresh cut in th truck befoer you put your tree up (unless you are bringing it immediately inside from the woods).

SOrry about the tree :(
My tree is dead too....well almost... We bought ours from the place we always do...we have always had a beautiful fragrant tree... not this year....
when we got it home hubby cut the bottom, we put water and that stay fresh stuff that they sell for the trees (saw on the news that is really does keep the tree fresh) the tree has no smell....and now the needles are dropping like crazy. We have been watering it 3-4 times a day. Its just a dud  The kids told me...just buy the febreeze with the pine smell...then you will be happy mom.

Next year we are going to go to one of the local tree farms and cut down our own. We should have done that this year 8)
Yep, we are waiting for Duke to come live at our house. Just waiting for the arrangements to be made so that we know what day he will be here. We are so excited, a sheepie Christmas!!!!!

:D :D :D
Congratulations on getting Duke!!!
Woohooo!! I'm done wrapping! LOL  8)

Ok, just had to do that.
Now, the problem with finishing wrapping before xmas eve at 3am is because now I look at the stuff wrapped and it doesn't seem as impressive... I *feel* like I should go shop more. If I had finished at 3am xmas, I would have no choice. LOL
I'm going to do my best to resist the urge to shop anymore LOL
Put away the checkbook, stash the credit cards. NO MORE SHOPPING!!!!! Back away from the stores!!

It will be just fine!!! As Mom's we always want to do MORE AND MORE AND MORE!!!
I am so ready, bring on Santa.

Early christmas saturday night for No.2 son a surprise for him with a nice dinner with family and friends.

Christmas day more feasting with family, Oooooh need loose tracky daks by then.

After the week we have had, work dinners, friends dinners etc etc, Hic hic and more still to come, diet after christmas. :P

I finished the shopping the other night so am happy with that and not stressed at all. I love this time of year and after christmas day the huge department store sales start Woo Hoo, great exercise to burn off christmas dinner with the shop till you drop exercise work out.
OK so here goes:
I have one day (today) to do ALL my gift shopping, marketing, and general Christmas planning. My family all arrives tomorrow and I have been working everyday, until today.
I'm glad I at least got the tree up, but I have not even thought about anything else. Wish me luck!!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Does that answer your question??

Doug said we should get two packs of hot dogs and who ever shows up can throw them on the gril 8)
Sounds like a plan!
LOL Sounds like a good idea Ginny LOL  8)
Or you could make something that you guys like and make enough in case everyone shows up. If you have too many leftovers just freeze them. Chili or something like that would be easy.
