A very BIG "thank You"

Hi everyone,
A very big thank you for all of the Christmas cards you have sent to my husband and myself. My Mom had been in the ICU since this past Friday. She is a Type 1 diabetic and her sugars were out of control. This is very unusual for my Mom as she has been a diabetic most of her life is is extreremly diligent about managing her disease. She had a urology procedure done this past Thurs. and they think the stress hormones are what set her off. Usually she can manage a high blood sugar, but this time she could not get it down. My Dad took her to the emergency room late Thurs. night and they admitted her immediately. After trying unsuccessfully to get the sugar down on a needle they moved her to ICU and put her on an insulin drip. Sunday was my Mom's 71st birthday and she was feeling very down. My Mom is also an "animal person" and I had been telling her about our sheepie cards. I took all of them down and brough them to the hospital on Sunday along with some birthday gifts. She LOVED the cards!! She showed them to all of the medical people coming in and out of the room (and you all know how many of them there are!!). She couldn't stop talking about them. It really brightened her day. She was so much better today that they moved her from ICU and told her that if her sugars stayed stable she could go home late Tues. We are hoping this is the case. I really thing that her focusing on the cards allowed her mind to stop worrying about everything for a while and let the stress hormones subside. Again a big THANK YOU for all of the cards and please everyone have a very Happy, Healthy Holiday Season!!

Awww that's just wonderful, tell your mom to keep concentrating on the cards, having a laugh and reducing her stress so she can get better soon and hopefully be home for christmas.

My mother was and Joe's mother is a diabetic so I understand the out of control sugar. I am so glad to hear that the cards brighten her day. Please tell her from me and my crew Merry Christmas and Get Well Quickly.

It would be fun if we could all show up with our Sheepies to
welcome her home! Wouldn't that be a surprise! 8O 8)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
That is so great that the cards brightened her spirits.
I hope she can come home as planned. :)
That was awesome to hear!!! :)

We hope your mom gets well soon!
Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery. So glad our cards could make such a difference in her spirits! Then again, you'd have to be made out of stone NOT to smile at those sheepie faces!!
Hi Kathie,

It must be difficult to have your mom in the hospital, especially this time of the year. It's nice to hear how the cards cheered her up...yeah team effort from everyone at the forum!! That was a great idea of yours to bring them to the hospital as everyone viewing them will probably chat with your mom about them too.

Hope she feels better soon.

Kathie -I'm very glad to hear that your Mom is feeling better. How wonderful that the sheepie Christmas cards were so helpful in lifting her spirits. I hope that she'll get to come home today!
I hope your MOm is better FAST. Diabetes is a terrible disease, if she has type 1 then she has been a diabetic for a long long time and I am sure she must get very depressed over it!!
Kathie-
My goodness you've had a lot going on these past few months. I'm so glad that our sheepie cards brought her joy. XOXO
Kathie, I'm so glad that in our own little way, we can help. I pray your mom is able to go home today. That would be a wonderful Christmas present for all of you.
Hugs to your Mom :ghug: And a speedy recovery also :)
Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your good wishes, thoughts and prayers for my Mom. She did finally stabilize and they send her home late this afternoon. She is very tired, but feels pretty good. I'm sure the big welcome her dog Annie (a Portuguese Water Dog) gave her, made her feel extra good! Now I have to fight her to get my cards back!! I'm sooooo glad she is home and we will have a happy Christmas. Again, thanks to everyone for their cards. In this case I firmly believe they were a lifesaver!!
Happy Holiday, Kathie & Carlos
Glad your mom is home and I will hoping for her continued recovery. We just had the "full hospital experience" and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Happy Holidays.
