I'm fed up. Need help wording a note to neighbor about dog

Some may recall there's a cocker spaniel who runs loose in our neighborhood. He's real good about going home. So despite the busy main street, I ignored it. For the past two weeks, EVERY DAY, he's pooped in my yard.

NOT OKAY.

I know the owner probably doesn't know because he just lets the dog go outside w/o being there, but I don't want to clean up his poop!!! I already have to clean Yuki's up, and she's like a horse! Even the dog I'm babysitting craps like a horse.

I want to put a letter on his door to bring it to his attn, but I can't do it w/o being mean and threatening. I'm just very blunt.

Our homeowners book or whatever clearly states that you have to pick up poop. I just want him to know that his dog is pooping in our yards. One neighbor even went out to buy a "no dog pooping" sign to put in their yard. It's a picture of a dog pooping w/a red X over it. Funny to see, and to the point. This neighbor lives down the street, so I am pretty sure this guy never sees the sign because to drive out or in, he doesn't pass her house.

Can someone help? If it happens after I put the note up, I have no problem going to his door. It's just I don't want that to be my first option because... unfortunately, again, I tend to come off "TOO" blunt when I'm angry.

Thank you.

Then don't do it in anger :D

I wouldn't "put it on his door", and maybe not even a letter. Can you "accidentally" catch him outside? If you could you could gently mention that "I've seen your dog going on my lawn and I've been cleaning it up." (Just keep smiling as you say all of this.) "I was wondering if you could try to cut that down to say, once a week" (here's where you chuckle)

Then if he comes off like an idiot, you can go from there. Video would be cool.
I agree that 'in person' would be better, but we all park in the garage, so the only time I see him is when he's leaving the neighborhood or coming home at 2 a.m. with his music turned up to high heaven.

I can definitely try though!

I'm just getting sick of his poop.

I love his dog. It's the cutest and seems to be interested in Yuki. I also kinda didn't want him to know the letter was from me, if at all possible. ;) I live several doors down, so he's more likely to assume it's someone else. My neighbor can't stand it either, but is WAY too shy to say anything. She's the opposite of me, so that's why we came up with the letter idea.
Could you write something like
Dear Bob,
Happy Holidays!
Several houses in the neighborhood have noticed your dog (who is so cute and sweet) pooping on our front lawns. Being dog owners ourselves, we understand it is hard to watch where our dogs 'go' all the time, but since it happens on a regular basis and we all have our own dogs to clean up after, we were hoping you could make sure that he does his business in your own yard.
Thanks for your time,
Neighbors
So I guess in the spirit of the Holiday picking the poop up, stuffing it in a bag and delivering it to the neighbor is out???? 8O
oh, that's great!!! see, so much better than what I would have said. :)
I just went to my neighbors house (will be watching her animals), and she said "did you check out the backyard?!?!?!"

So we went outside, and it's horrible!! Had no idea. How much does this dog poop!!!

It's the only dog that goes back there and in our yard too. We're POSITIVE. We don't have anyone else who walks their dogs on our part of the street (would be inconvenient), and besides... everyone stands at their door to let their dog go like us! ;)

Ginny forgot to add.....setting the paper bag on fire
Well, I did THINK that!!!!!!!!!!!!! But having a Fireman in the house, I decided it might be a hazard.
didnt stop me from saying it...lol
I had to add a few extra words. :?

Not bad, I hope.. just more specific. Thanks barney! I'm going to his door once I show my neighbor. :)

She may like the poop at the front door idea though. We have a LOT.
I'm chuckling over here because I just went outside and danced around like a crazy lady to make tons of foot tracks. some that go to everyone's door, including my own (because I had to go inside). That way it's not too obvious. I looked like a nut making these footprints everywhere.

I have another neighbor who pulls out of his driveway (at least 4 doors down) and drives in reverse ALL the way up to my doorstep (ruining our grass)!! What is wrong with these people. I notice it more when there's fresh snow like today, but it happens all the time.

I wish neighborhoods were like Survivor. You can get voted out if the existing neigbors don't like you.
LMAO with you making the tracks.
What did you add to the letter?

As for that problem...can you hammer in some stakes at the perimeter of your property...they even have some with reflectors on them...this might stop the moron from driving on your lawn....

People like that(and the pooping dog neighbor) are the reason why we moved to the country and have no neighbors close by.
You could also put a couple big rock on the lawn.
Just a few underlines because I couldn't resist. and wrote the word supervise at the very end. I just want to make sure he doesn't take this as "okay, I better check up on my dog" but his dog still lets his dog go in our yard.

My neighbor is worried her dog will whack their dog because it's a lot smaller. She keeps her dog on a leash, but there's no one holding this cocker back. I don't have the same problem, but I can see where she's coming from since it's always outside when I take Yuki and the fruitcake I'm babysitting outside. It will pounce his feet over and over in front of my dog to entice them to play and then start jumping on them. No matter how many times you tell it to go away, it's just there trying to get in everything and in your home. I think it's hilarious, but again.. can see why it worries my neighbor.
You can get a pack of those poop bags, wrap it up in chrissy paper and give it to your neighbour with the letter, with a message "happy holidays if you use these it will be for everyone then". Either that or a pooper scooper with a big christmas bow attached.

Maybe he might get the hint then.

Like ginnys idea Ha Ha 8)
Won't your homeowner's association do anything about this? Where I live any loose dogs are caught by Security and held until the owner pays $25 to spring them. If they're not claimed, they go to the local shelter where the fine is even higher. Just a thought. This way YOU wouldn't come off looking like the bad guy.
If the guy has a back yard full of it, maybe you could use health issues as a reason for him cleaning it up........worms.......etc....... Some people don't really understand or think of all the connections between the dogs health and the poop issue.

It would make it sound like you "really" care about his dog, and yours! Can explain that you spend money on meds and shots, but stray dogs dumping in your yard can possibly reinfest it, so - could you please........

 My first thought was to shovel it up and toss it back in his yard, but its always best to try not to put the person on the defense at first, "then" if kindness doesn't work............. grab the shovel.

Yeah, this was my first thought too. Reason why I needed you guys!!! :)

I already dropped the note off at his door. My neighbor laughed when I told her I made footprints going to several houses to throw him off. She said when she saw him (it's her next door neighbor), he was nice to her, so hopefully we'll see some improvements!

thanks everyone!

the one thing i hate about snow/winter that i didn't have to deal with in tx is... FROZEN POOP. Man, if you don't get that stuff the second it happens, it's frozen to the ground and even with a shovel, sometimes you can't get it all up!
I actually find frozen poop a lot easier to clean up LOL

We tried that once! Had a new neighbor that walked the dogs and never cleaned up after them. Several neighbors asked them to clean up and they never did. Ronnie bagged it with a note to pick up after their dogs and put it on their porch. You would think they would get the message. Finally took several of us calling animal control and complaining to get them to stop.

Sure you hope you have better luck.
I just caught this post and I laughed the whole way through! I completely understand where you're coming from. We have a neighbor across from us that lets her corgi out to poop in every one's yard. Frustrating! I'm thinking I might go with the sign idea . . .
I am bad at cleaning up the poo in our yard, drives my hubby nuts. So I am trying to be a better person and try to make it out everyday....yuck. Cleaning up frozen isn't too bad...but you also get a bag of snow with it.

But I have never left it if on a walk...I can't stand people who do that.

As for the dog roaming around...I would take the address down, and file a complaint (if your note doesn't work...bad habits and all). Let animal control deal with it, might even be doing the dog a favor...sounds like it has uncaring owners.

Do you have fenced yards? If he's not cleaning up his yard...maybe a business card from a pooper scooper company...we have a business or two around here that come and clean-up for a fee.
Husband reading over shoulder at these posts.

His solution for neighbor who backs up onto your yard, go to police and ask if you could borrow a set of spikes used on highways during pursuits. LOL! Doubt they will, but gives you an idea..........board, nails, etc

Can you put your trash can filled with rocks or some such that he backs into...?

People can be such jerks.

Noooooo!

First off, don't descend to his level! Secondly, but more importantly perhaps is that you open yourself up to all sorts of liability. If someone should walk on your lawn and be hurt, or if he got a flat and got struck on the highway, or hit something else....Lastly, he might not realize he's doing it or that it is bothering you.

Please don't do that!

Sounds fun though!
I know sheepieboss wasn't REALLY serious!

Besides, I'm not dumb. If I did that, I would remove the evidence by the time he called the cops. No sense in doing something that vengeful if you're not in the background watching.

But of course I have no desire to do something mean to anyone!!! :D I had planned to say something, but I've been lazy. Plus, I wanted to wait until he did it again after a fresh snow, so he can't deny he's doing it. Although the tire tracks from the last time are still in my grass/snow. It just looks trashy to have people over and have tracks dug into your grass going up to your door.

Any idiot who has to drive his big truck in reverse several houses down and go as far back as a few inches from my DOORSTEP ...knows what he's doing. He's just flat out a GUY who is SINGLE that is inconsiderate. There's no need for it. In between his house and my house is the exit. Him going past the exit is just him trying to feel manly in his car. I so know his type. This is the same idiot who rides recklessly down the street filled with children in his ATV (illegal to do in a neighborhood too). I just can't be the narc for everyone 8) , so I've never said anything about that considering I don't care as much as my neighbors, and I don't feel it directly affects me. (we discuss these things during block parties)
Was that the right effect/affect?

I try to remember

cause/effect
will this affect me

but it gets confusing to me when I actually use those words. Barney!!!!

Also when do I use whom? (while I'm asking)
I thought this issue was DEAD. POSITIVE this would be done with after the note.

Fate would have it that I look out my window and what do I see.. PAW PRINTS FROM THIS GUY'S HOUSE TO MINE. I open my front door, and I've got crap next to my bush!

How the heck did we pick this neighborhood? It looks so peaceful and family-oriented when we first moved in.

NOW I AM PISSED. To not even care about your neighbors and for this to happen RIGHT AFTER we leave a note (i say 'we' because my neighbor wanted this too) ...is so rude!!!!

I think I'm going to contact our property manager or whatever they're called.

I HATE affect/effect!! In your case you used it correctly, though. 8)

According to my American Heritage Dictionary:

The traditional rules for choosing between who and whom are relatively simple but not always easy to apply. WHO is used for a grammatical subject, where a nominative (name) pronoun such as I or HE would be appropriate, and WHOM is used elsewhere.
Thus, we write The actor who played Halet (since WHO is the subject of the verb played)...Whom do you like best (because WHOM is the object of the verb like).

I know that probably didn't help much because you have to know what things like nominative pronouns and object of the verb and stuff means

That's a good idea. I also liked the idea about contacting Animal Control.
My rule of thumb-- To whom / From whom almost everything else is "who."
My parents neighbour's dog used to do this. My sister picked it up one day, put it in a safeway bag and hung it on the garage door. They pulled up, he sen his aughter to get it, saw what it was and the og never pooped on our property again.
Wow, I'm really impressed with our property management. They've been looking for the pooper(s) in the neighborhood, but had no idea who was doing it. This person is a renter, so a letter is going out to him and to the owners of the house. I think he's going to regret doing this. She said it's illegal to leave poop w/o scooping and have your dog running free, so she hinted that there's probably a fine involved. She took my name, but said it will remain private.

When I first read this, I thought you meant that she put the dog in the Safeway bag and was a bit unsure of why you would tell us about your sister putting animals in bags.

YAY!! I hope something is done soon.
Good for you, I hope something is done...now for the other guy....did you mention him???
Good for you!

Will you have a chance to hear about the results?
I don't think I'll find out what happens to the guy because it's not my business, but I wish they did tell you.

And I didn't say anything about the guy who drives up to my doorstep because I feel people should be confronted directly (even if it's via a letter  ) before taking it higher.

Ex: Someone chopped down the state tree because quite frankly, we have 10000 in our backyard, and it looks bad. This is illegal (unless it is dead). We had someone tell on them, so they were required to put up 3 trees for every ONE that they took down. They took down 3 (I can't remember, could have been more). Many of the neighbors are upset that people told on him because he really just made his backyard look BETTER. Now, he has to plant 9 huge trees in his backyard!!! He has a year to do it. There is not enough room for that many. The trees won't have any room to grow, and it will look terrible. Our property management doesn't give verbal warnings about anything! We wish he was given the option to plant them somewhere else on the property and not all in the same place!!
