Vehicle Pet Barriers

I am still getting things together for my trip up North with Max and was hoping to see what everyones feelings were on the pet barriers for suv's. I did pick up Max a sedative from the Vet to help out, but he may still try to climp up in the front seat, which he does now when I get out to get gas or something. My questions are, which ones are better, mesh or steel, any hints on better installation ones than others? I saw one at petedge but its on backorder, and ebay has some too, but not returnable. I am not sure I'll need it, but better safe than sorry. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would think steel would be better for an anxious dog, he may chew the mesh and get dangerously tangled.
Joan and I used to use a Gerry baby gate, the fine mesh kind with two rigid but adjustable in length poles, top and bottom, and two side poles, fixed in length.

We've used it in the car and in the SUV just by leaning it up against the front seats (could probably get fancy and actually compress the poles to fit against the pillars of the vehicle, but never needed to), and we've used it in our motorhome in a few different ways.

That was probably 10 years ago, so there may be even more options now! So..... don't just look at what the pet store has, go to the toy or children's store, and check them out, too!
Hi Shelly,

Here's another suggestion, you could think about purchasing a doggie seatbelt harness. I purchased one for Merlin and it fits over them like a harness and then clicks on to the car seat belt in the back of their harness...easy to undo with a click and the dog is free but still wearing the harness which you can now attach a leash to.

The cost was 35 dollars, although I've seen various price ranges.

Good luck with your trip and have fun!
Well, I had bid on a pet barrier on ebay and paid, but what do you know, never rec'd it and ebay has suspended them and is after them. This is the first time this has happened. So now I may have to go to the pet store and pay full price. I just know max tries to climb up front when I get out. That would make for a very long trip, because it takes me forever to get him out. (imagine a 5 foot petite female trying to get a 60lb dog out of the car.). Does anyone have any other suggestions? I could try the seat belt but the seats will be down. I could just try his lease up in back?
