sheepie hair

hello all,

This is my first time owning a sheepie and i am loving every minute of it...My puppie will be 7 months old soon and she is about 60 lbs....she is a big girl. I was wondering how long it takes for them to start getting their adult (long) coat. My pup still looks quite like a puppy. Her hair has gotten thicker but it doesn't seem that much longer since i got her.

Thanks for any info.

At 7 months you should have a lot of hair already. Can you post a pic so we can see what you mean?
Congratulations on your new sheepie baby.

Read this topic it has pictures of the different stages in the coat on the same sheepie from 4 months old to 4 years old.
It will give you an idea of the changes they go through.

She should definitely have a ton of hair by now... is she a purebred oes?
I have a sheepie pup that just turned 8 mths and has never had a hair cut. This is the length of her hair and your pup should be about the same.

Our Ollie never grew a long lush coat. He wasn't from show lines, and it just seemed to never grow much past a certain point.

People are like that, so I see no reason a dogs coat wouldn't have variables too.
Thanks for all the info. Her coat is about where it should be after looking at the pics...she is purebred so i know she will get her coat...i just think she might be a late bloomer. I tried to put a pic up but couldn't figure it out...sorry about that.
Chewie - in my avatar picture - is 7 1/2 months old. He is still mostly black - his grey is just getting started. He is more of a late bloomer than his 4 littermates that I have seen.
this is fletcher at around 6 months and 60 pounds....he's 9 months now and still grayish black but has a full coat

My puppy, Bingley, is 6 months old. This past weekend we went to a dog show and competed with 5 of his litter mates. Every single one of them had different coats. On some the gray was coming in but the coat was shorter, on some they were almost all black but they had a longer coat, etc. It was really neat seeing the differences. I bet your pup's coat will come in as she matures, but I'd love to see a pic.
dogtrainer is your puppy outside alot ??? i found that when sadie was outside a lot her coat was shorter but fuller ... the more and more i kept her in the longer it got but on a whole her undercoat vertually dissappeared not disirable when trying to show her ...

just a thought ...
