My husband's room was set on fire (no one was hurt)

He didn't clarify how because he couldn't over the phone, but I guess something happened last night. 8O

I guess he can't tell me or chooses not to, but I guess his friend and him couldn't put it out, so they closed the doors to the room, and when they had help to get it out, the entire room was black. I'm so glad it wasn't more serious!!!

This wasn't at his main place, so he only had a few bags of stuff with him, but it was his military clothes. So he called to tell me to send him some stuff (he has stuff in the garage that I can send, so he's fine). All his stuff was burned.

THANK GOODNESS THAT'S ALL THAT GOT BURNED AND NO ONE WAS HURT!

Last week (was on the news), 5 soldiers died. They only left in October, this is considered a lot.

Our friend who is rear-D (the soldier who stays behind to take care of things) was assigned to go the homes of these soldiers, and tell their wives. I'd HATE to be that person.

Wow, that's very scary.... I'm so glad he is ok... you must be relieved but probably also very shaken too.... *hugs*

I'm so sorry so many have lost their lives... what honorable, brave people they all are who serve.

PHEW so glad he is OK. :phew:
Glad he is ok L. Clothes can definitely be replaced. He can't.

:ghug:
How scary. Do they know if the fire was accidental or intentional?
I'm very glad he only lost some clothes, and everyone is OK.
OMG so glad he is ok, and safe. :ghug:

I laughed.out.loud. :D

It's just weird to know I'm sitting at home safe, while there are so many soldiers fighting. It first set in when I found out people that left with mr. j actually died after just 2 months there, then when there was a get-together and it was discussed, and now ...the fire. Anyway, it's almost been 100 days since he left, so hopefully time goes BY FAST!! :D :D
Hi Ms J,

Sorry for the late posting and I'm glad Mr J is okay as well as the others who share the same space with him. No doubt news of this sort puts fear in your heart and makes us realize what those guys do each day. We are so lucky to have you on the forum reminding us of the sacrifice they make. Sending Mr J a hug and sisterly kiss from me.

Marianne and the boys

Umm that was sisterly wasn't it? Don't want to make you have to come down here and give me a can of whoomp....you know.
Wow, Jo, I don't know how you handle the stress, bless your heart. 8O

Will keep him and you and lil J in my prayers for his safe return. How long a tour is he serving?
That's a loaded question since no one REALLY knows the answer to that, D.

The short answer is: a year
The people they are replacing were told a year. A DAY before returning and having all their family members fly out to Alaska, they were told they will stay for an additional few months. They stayed for 4 more...

Who knows what Bush will decide to do next. The decisions the Pentagon will make... or what will happen in Iraq in the next 12 months.

Sending Mr J a hug and sisterly kiss from me. Kiss

At this point, I don't think any guy can think of a kiss as sisterly. They have seen a girl in a few months. ;)
Very scary! I'm glad nothing more serious resulted from the fire.
I am so glad that Mr. J is ok although it's both scary and irritating to have stuff burned.

I will keep your husband in my thoughts and prayers. My son leaves for Afghanistan early next year.
I am happy to hear Mr. J is all right. Bless his heart and all the soldiers for what they are doing for us. We will keep him in our hearts and prayers that he will return safely. Just stay strong and the days will fly by and he will be back with you soon. :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
How scary! I am glad Mr J is okay.
Keep eating those jelly beans and he'll be back before you know it. :)
I AM SOOOOOOOOO Sick for eating these red jellybeans. Seriously. I feel like I wouldn't be doing my part if I threw them away. I know that's weird, but it doesn't count to me that way! I can't wait for lil J to get "A TOOTH." I feel something sharp, but don't see anything... He's 1 for pete's sake.. WE WANT TEETH!

THE RED ONES ARE ALMOST GONE!!! I should post a pic, so when it's down to blue... everyone can be excited with me. Or I can at least believe they are! :P
Tonight's news at 10 wasn't positive. Colin Powell was saying that if Bush thinks there should be more troops, it will be done by extending the troops already there.

tgir, if you're like my MIL and me... we always cross our fingers that our loved ones battalion gets sent back or didn't go at all. Mr. J's family always think of ways for him to come home (breaks his leg, he has bad hips, etc). What does your son do in the military and what branch? Sorry, if you already told me. I have a bad memory and get overwhelmed with info from others. Is he artillery, infantry, medic, MI, armor, etc??
Happy to hear Mr J is ok and my thoughts and prayers are with them all
JO -I'm glad that he is okay and nothing worse has happened. I pray for your family daily.
Jo,

glad to hear Mr J is doing all right. Thanks goodness they didn't manage to burn the building down! Scarrrrryyyy!!!! Although with all of the hijinks Mike got up to when he was away in Bosnia... well some tiny part of me isn't totally surprised. Not trying to be evil but part of me just giggled when I heard the room started on fire (Because he is safe of course, and it was a little fire!) I guess I've just heard too many naughty deployment stories!!!!!

Hope he and his buddies are doing well over there, and staying safe! Has he gotten any of our cards???
My son is in the 82nd Airborne.

I've been joking with another mom at work about chopping off a toe or two, accidentally, of course. I think that would do it....
Whew, glad Mr. J. is OK.
I don't know if anyone cares, but I thought it was sad, so I'm posting it here.

1 person from Mr J's battalion died on the 20th of Dec.
Four were wounded. They were hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The wounded heroes are currently in stable condition and expected to recover. I'm able to post this because their families have been notified (just following protocol).

What a terrible thing to hear at any time, but adds to the sadness because it's during the holidays. It's hard enough on everyone as it is to be away from family...

I pray Mr. J stays safe eleventy billion times a day. :plead:
Of course we care.... I'm so sorry...
I'm glad Mr J is ok...
I'm so very sorry for the ones who have died, their families and friends.

*hugs*
So sorry for this news--the families of the solders injured or died
are in our prayers..........

We are praying for Mr. J's safety and his safe return home
soon. May God protect him and his unit as they go about
their misson. We are truely blessed to have so many
brave military personnel working so hard around the world.
Wow. I'm glad he's OK and feel so sorry for his comrade's families.

How large is his battalion?
Um.. I can't remember. Let's see... we had a picnic before they left, and I think we cooked for 500? So.... maybe a little more than 200? (the rest of that number would be their family/children)
Oh J, that is so sad, I am sorry that Mr.J's Battallion has suffered a loss and injuries to others. We care, and prayers for them all.
I'm very sorry to hear of the loss and injuries God bless them all
Jo,

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of another one of our brave service members. I hope and pray that the rest of the soldiers injured heal quickly and completely. Here's praying for a safe and peaceful holiday for your husband!
Oh Jo...of course we care! I am so saddened by the news. I pray for daily for Mr. J's safety and for those with whom he serves.
Of course we care! I'm so sorry :(
