What is it with me and strays???

*sigh* 8O I don't know, I must have a sign around my neck or something...
Now I have a stray TWO LEGGED for a few weeks!
My daughters friend, who lives 6 hours away, but her family was in town for a wedding, and left her here! (No, they didnt forget her) But somehow the girls convinced me to let her stay.... And the soonest I can make the trip to take her home is July 23 rd... so wish me luck guys! I may have no hair left by then, or at least a lot more grays! Now there are 2 (!) 13 yr old girls, a 12 yr old boy, an 11 yr old boy and a 9 yr old boy in this house..... not to mention all the four leggeds, but at least the four leggeds don't require cooking, and they keep themselves occupied and never say they're bored... unless you count Dancer grabbing the remote and running like h*** as saying "I'm bored, play with me!" LOL

8O GoooooOOOOOoooood luck!
Wow Willow, I thought my house was full! 8O

I can tell you that my 4 year old boy...well.....he is active enough to be counted as more. My 6 year old girl who will be 7 in the middle of Sept. is going on 13, or at least enough attitude that could amount to a 13 year old......or maybe this is normal for a 6 year old and I will be shocked when she does reach 13! :P
I am on a Ragdoll forum kind of like this and someone found a Ragdoll needing a home from their vet. The owners had declawed all 4 paws! I was appalled! My husband is off on vacation for the next 2 weeks and we had decided to adopt him, but before we had to add the 5th cat to our household a local family (the cat was out of state) adopted him. I was a little heartbroken, but it was for the best. The person who adopted him was a diabetic retired woman who needed a pet who couldn't scratch her skin.
I hope your hair is still in tact and that no gray hairs get added! Give my best to your family of uprights and furries! Stormi and co.
I have a half ragdoll half siamese that I need to find a home for.... who am I kidding though? I rescued her a year ago, but haven't trusted anyone enough to give her up. She has a chronic sinus problem, no runny nose or anything, but she frequently gets out of breath, and occasionally sounds asthmatic. Most of the time though she is fine, she just gets out of breath when she decides to act like a cat and plays a bit, or if the dog chases her. She has no viruses, and is up to date on vaccinations and deworming, but she is not declawed, nor is she spayed. She CANNOT be spayed, because the risk of surgery is too great, anesthetic reduces function of the lungs and if she went under she may never wake up. I haven't given her up because I am afraid someone would have her put down unnecessarily due to her health problems, which haven't needed any medical intervention, just a little understanding. So Stormi... do you need cat #6???

Sounds like she has a wonderful home, but if it doesn't work out I am also a sucker for strays and my husband isn't much better.
I think it is great that you have taken her in and made sure she is safe and healthy. I am glad that you know the risk of spaying her, that would be awful for her not to wake up. I am sure the yelling while she is in heat isn't too fun, I know from experience now as Marie has had quite a few now. She actually isn't as bad as I thought she would be, but she has her opera singer moments. 8O The kids don't understand why she does the constant meowing so sometimes my house is filled with Ashlan and Joey yell-meowing along with her and erupting in giggles.
How has your day been with child number 5 today? Are you wearing a wig yet? :P Stormi and co.
You realize of course four legged creatures have a secret underground network where they share info about us. They probably discuss us like this "oh go to her house, she's a real sucker and you're sure to get fed."

As for the two legged ones...they are pickier about the food choices but I think it's the same thing. :D
 She actually has only gone into one very mild almost unnoticeable heat in the year that I've had her, this week. For just a day or two she was rubbing up against things and sticking her butt in the air, no meowing though, I think she would get out of breath if she did, so she doesn't. I think her body knows it shouldn't have kittens, sounds crazy, but nature works in mysterious ways.
She's not actually a stray... she came from a nasty situation. I was working with the local animal welfare society who had recieved complaints about a woman in a rural area who was selling ragdolls. I posed as a customer and went out there, she had tons of cats, but she was allowing them all free roam of the house and outside. Some of her ragdolls were nice cats, but some had obviously been born out of accidental breedings and didn't look right. Not a breeding program at all, but couldn't really be classified as a mill situation either. I had no idea what to do, legally we knew we could not intervene, as most of the cats seemed healthy and happy, and even had proof of vaccinations. Just because we didn't agree with what we saw, doesn't mean she was doing anything cruel. But she sure wasn't doing anything to help or preserve the breed! Some of the cats had no socialization, and were quite wild, ferals in a house! When I asked about the ones who seemed so wild, she suggested, but didn't come right out and say, that she was trying to catch them so she could "dispose"of them. I didn't like the sound of this.... I offered to help her catch them and re habilitate them and find homes for them. She agreed with some coercing, and I rented live traps, and ended up bringing four kitties home. 2 were exceptionally wild , one bit me quite badly, requiring a stitch and a tetanus shot, and made my whole arm swollen for a week, my hand looked like a football, and now I have a scar that still looks like a hole in my wrist from a well placed fang. Anyway, I kept the very wild ones in a large cat condo cage in my basement , not the greatest environment, but better than they had, and they gradually accepted my visits to feed, water, clean the litter, talk to them and attempt to pet them. One finally allowed me to, but didn't like it and the one who bit me was like a tiger, always hissing and snarling, terrified. I had them spayed, updated on shots, tested for any viruses, and found a farm home for them about six months after I brought them here. They will be fed, they will be warm, they will be trapped yearly and given vaccinations, but not bothered by people. And the farmer will have a few less mice. It was the only chance I could give them. They look happier now, free, healthy, and seem pleased to have a job. The woman can talk to them when she feeds them, and they are ok with that, so that's an improvement. The other two who were not so wild, lived in my home for quite a while, I found a home for the older female, who liked to be petted but not held, and was healthy. She's doing great. Sweet Pea on the other hand....lol.... my husband and I said this was the cat we would least have liked if we were picking out a cat. She seems to lack basic intelligence, but she has a sweet disposition. Her markings are the oddest I've seen, she almost looks like a lynx point siamese but she has longer silkier hair like a ragdoll, icey blue eyes, and a big orange tabby marked diamond in the middle of her forehead. Her coat is neither long or short, it is just weird. LOL She also has peach colored spots on her feet, one foot is lynx marked, one is peach.... Her nose is slightly pushed in, almost like a persian. She is a little timid, when it comes to food she seems to forget to eat and then when she happens to find the food bowl eats a bit and then forgets what she is doing. She seems a little thin, but the vet said she's fine, that's just the way she is. Anyway, all that being said, I try to pawn her off on anyone who stops by, lol, seriously though, I couldn't give her up to anyone who wouldn't be understanding of her limitations and would love her just because. She will be 2 yrs old this halloween according to what the woman told me, (though I wonder if she made it up) When I brought her home she was still young enough to be socialized, so I think that's the other reason she is still here. LOL

I completely agree!!!

By the way, the stray child situation is going fine.... and today I am babysitting four more.... it's nice though, they're all around the same ages as my boys, so they are keeping each other busy. Head count....1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.... is that it? Really??? 8O
Willowsprite! You are an angel for taking on the responsibility of helping those cats!! Egads !! The energy of all those two and four legged creatures!!! You're energy must be tenfold in order to keep up with them...yup there's a halo also waiting for you some day!
Nope, no halo.... and not much energy left either! LOL Is it bedtime yet???
Hi Willow! Wow, you sound busy?? he he he he I was wondering about your sweet, but not so bright cat and Dancer. Do they get along? Are you worried that she might hurt the cat when playing? One of the kittens we adopted sounds just like her. He is still young, but he forgets where the food is, starts to eat, then jumps down to look at something, and forgets where the food was... But very sweet and lovable! He is my favorite out of the two. However, sometimes he seems so helpless, he is only 3 months old! Mopsey would run up to him and knaw on him, lick him, etc. and he just sits there... Sometimes I feel like she will hurt him, unintentionally. She is so much bigger then he is. Any suggestions?
I wouldn't worry about it ... that kitten can defend himself pretty well, even if it may not seem that way. If she hasn't hurt him yet she won't likely. Dancer actually drags sweet pea around by the ear. The first time i saw her do this I freaked... I was running across the house, she was draggging the cat across the kitchen floor and Sweet Pea was limp, so of course you can imagine what I thought... well, Dancer dropped her and just looked at me like 'what??' and the cat laid there for a minute, then got up, rubbed against Dancer and let her do it again! I don't think she cares, I think she likes the attention. Dancer will chase the cats, seemingly for fun, but she will also lay in the same bed with them, and me! And not a problem with any of them.
Pheeew! thanks!
