I'm POUTING :-(

I'm putting on a MAJOR pout today. I was supposed to have almost two weeks vacation over the holidays, nothing paticular planned just some down time to hang out, chase ambulances and play at the Fire Hall. I found out today that the Nurse that was supposed to cover almost HALF my time off forgot to renew her NY Nursing License so now I have to work :(

I suppose it's better than having a trip planned somewhere and having to cancel it but I was kinda looking forward to sleeping late the whole week of Christmas :( Poor pitiful MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

poor Ginny...sorry! you have every right to whine...kick that other nurse in the shins for me.......
I knew I could count on you for a little sympathy Darcey!!
That sucks!!! :x

Maybe you can take your time off a little later than planned.... when the other nurse renews her license?
Unfortunately it can take MONTHS to get through the red tape in NY when you let a professional license lapse. She may not even bother because she rarely covers here. That leaves me with only one person currently able to cover me and she works another full time job and can only work a few days here and there.

I have been getting resumes for a per diem person but so far haven't found anyone qualified.

:?: Forgot to renew her license :?:

Good grief.........
I have the exp dates all over my calenders,
she needs a better system
they should renew it just on the fact alone that she forgot...if she forgets to do something as basic as that...what does she forget to do with patients?? 8O

I say not only kick her in the shins, but boot her in the behind too!!!
I have a sneaking suspicion that she really didn't want to work here that week anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i meant to say shouldn't..
Ginny, you deserve a major pout. And that other nurse--what a maroon.

:twitch: How clever, I forgot to renew my license

Ginny,

For fun you should check it out on your State License
verification list.

If she is current, she had better be out of town
HEHEHEHEH, I didn't think of that, I actually have her license # because I have to have a copy of the license of everyone who works here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do they pay you for any unused vacation days at the end of the year?

That's horrible that she would wait until the last minute to tell you that.

I agree - kick her in the shins or at least call her nasty names.

Unfortunately no, we are allowed to carry a certain amount over but I am WAY over that amount so I will end up losing some. But I actually get too much vacation to ever use (I currently have 9 weeks saved) so I'm not really worried aobut that. "Back in the day" we could acrue unlimited amounts and it was always my goal to save enough to retire early but, then they realized what people were doing and started to put a limit on what you could carry over.
I am sorry a bout your vacation being messed up. It sounds like you have good reason to pout, cuss, and even cry some.
Some times it really sucks to be a nurse. I had a small come apart Thanksgiving when I thought I was going to have to work Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nights. I was supposed to be off Sunday and did only have to work 4 hours. But still no holiday weekend for me.

Sorry Ginny!! That really is rotten luck. I hope you get something extra special good from Santa to make up for it!! :D
That really sucks Ginny.... hopefully things will get sorted out soon and you can enjoy some well deserved R&R...
I agree with Beaureguard's Mom! I hope you get something special to make up for this crappy news!!! That would make me unmotivated to work and grumpy every day I was there! URGH. This is when I wish for snow days or something to close the place down. ...but I guess someone with your job doesn't get off even if it snows a lot!
I'm so sorry Ginny.
That really sucks. :(
That blows! I'd definitely take her off the gift list! I'm sorry. :(

That being said, I'm taking the 2 weeks off after Christmas. Want me to report what I'm doing during that time so you can live vicariously through me?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO if I have to work I want to pretend that EVERYONE else is working too!!!!

In the grand scheme of things it isn't so bad, I just like to whine!!!!!!! I was kinda hopig to spend a fe w mornings in my jammies drinking coffee and watching daytime TV :(
I'll be working too - 12 hour nights on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Oh, well, it's not like they can close the hospital........
I work every 3rd holiday, this just happens to be my year for Christmas.
So at least I don't have to work CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!! (Except Ambulance coverage)!!

I remember those days, I think I worked every Holiday forabou a million years!!!!

you have every right to whine... that sounds like it would have been a great vacation! use those days as soon as you can, you deserve it!
That completely sucks and you have every right to be disappointed. Can they use the person that can work a few days here and there to at least come in and work any days she's able? That would at least give you something off. I feel for you.
I DO get some time off, my vacation was being covered by two different people. One person is still wroking so I have one day off next week, I am picking my daughter up at the airport (she's coming home for Christma) and then Christmas week I have three days off work two then have threee days for New Years. So I am not without ANY time off. I was just looking forward to two SOLID weeks.

Cornell closes for the entire holiday so Doug will be home, my daughter will be here and I just wanted to "hang out".

I absolutely LOVE my job and everything about it so I am really very lucky. The only down side (other than long hours) is that I am actually an employee of a hospital in PA but work in a NY clinic 50 miles away from the hospital. Consequently it is very difficult to find someone who is a hospital employee with a NY license. So it's very hard to take time off.

I haven't "called in sick" in over 10 years because if I did it would mean the entire day of classes would need to be cancelled (about 50 patients). Once in awhile I'd like to be able to wake up and say HEY, I NEED A DAY OFF!!!!
That's an incredible work ethic and to be admired.
Ginny, since the hospital is in PA, but the clinic is NY, does she have licensure in both states? If so, it will take a bit of time, but shouldn't be a big deal. Unless her CEUs aren't in order.

I had licensure in two states. Because they renewed at different times, my issue was making sure the CEU dates were valid for both.
Yes, anyone working for me needs to be licensed in both states. The person who is supposed to cover me is licensed (or was) but forgot to renew her license, it can take 6-8 weeks in NY to resolve a problem like that.
