This Scares The Heck Outta Me!

All week our news have been warning us of a horrific wind storm heading our way. The last of the three wind storms to arrive on our coast within two weeks. This was not including the snow storm that also hit us 3 wks ago. The snow has all dissapeared. People on Vancouver Island and smaller Islands are still suffering from last weeks windstorm and some don't even have power back as Hydro crews don't ever remember being this busy in their entire history.

400 Hydro crews are on standby as they expect trees to break on power lines and many branches to be flying around on roads and streets. What is so unusual about this is we get very mild Southernly winds...this storm is Eastern and Northern winds as well. Experts say the trees can't not withstand winds from all directions and many ancient trees will break.

My backyard in suberbia has 7 trees..all of them over 100 ft high. My neighbor has a giantic tree..it's over 200 ft high and facing my house. The storm is arriving at midnight and is expected to last 12 hours! 12 hours! Driving to work tomorrow will be a nightmare I imagine and hopefully no trees fall on my home tonight. Such weird weather! Once again they are saying this has NEVER happened in our area..winds are expected to be 100 km an hour or more.

Yikes! That sounds very scary. I hope the fact that your trees have lived such a good long time is a testament to their strength and good health. Please don't go to work if there is a risk of a tree falling on your car. . . One day missed will be far outweighed by the thousands more ahead of you.
Oh I hope everything turns out ok for you all on the west coast and lets hope the trees will bend with the wind .Take care :plead:
You know living with potential hurricanes down here and 70 degree weather on a day like today isn't sounding so bad right now.

Hope everything goes ok for you Marianne - stay safe & warm.
stay safe Marianne..do you have a basement? Helmet? Mattress....?? Take the 2 above mentioned items and go to your basement...my fingers are crossed for you!!
The weather is certainly wacky this year. Usually we're the ones getting all lthe wind and snow and ice by now, but our snow is gone again and it's been very warm all week.

Stay safe Marianne!
You stay safe Kiddo, batten down the hatches.

The weather is real wacky, sounds like you are in Melbourne, 4 seasons in one day. Global Warming? 8)

Or, maybe signs of something a little more spiritual. 8)
Nothing spiritual about it. Weather cycles, hystorically.

This has been an "odd" weather year but not without precident, just out of our expected norms.

We've had unusually warm weather all fall, the average temperature here at this time of year is well below freezing. All week we have had temperatures in the upper 50's.

It is scarey when weather takes such a odd turn, stay safe Marianne!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay safe, Marianne! Take the critters and head as far down in your house as you can.
Whew! It's over for the time being. Egads it was ugly out there!

Winds in my area reached 100km an hour, hurricane winds are clocked at 115 so says the news reports. Some areas such as Vancouver Island had winds clocked at 157! The same storm hit Oregon, WA and my province of BC. In Oregon it closed 3 major highways and left 2.5 million people without power in WA. Bridges in all three areas were closed, leaving thousands stranded trying to get home.

At the moment there are 1/4 million people without power in my area and 34 intersections are operating by four way stop. 35 homes were hit with large trees that fell on their homes so they had to evacuate. Once again the news is reporting..never in history has this kind of storm hit us before.

We have a huge park in the heart of the city, much like Central Park in NY. For the first time since it's conception in the 1800's this park is closed. Large trees, some hundreds of years old have fallen on roads and walkways. There are numerous cars that were damaged as a result.

I was lucky, the only damage was a fallen arbor I built this summer. Urg now they are reporting a snow storm is heading our way again, expected to hit by Sunday. LOL remember I said it never snows here usually? Then again, never in our history has schools and businesses closed due to Wind either!

>>Makes note to self..never say never again.

8) I hope you stay well during all of this weather confusion going on. I was watching on the news what happened in Origon and Washinton State and wondered how you where doing. :plead: Stay safe!
Thanks Violet!

I feel very fortunate that my power is on, kids and pets are safe, and I'm safe and sound at home. Maybe I'll get a t-shirt made one day that states, I survived the storms of 06! 8O

8) Marianne when I lived through the 4 hurricanes of 2004, I also thought about buying a T shirt that said I survived. :D
Happy to hear you ae all safe :D
That is scary Marianne. I'm crossing my fingers that you continue to successfully "weather" any weather that comes your way.
Thanks again everyone!

I finally figured it out..it's all my fault!!! See I had Panda clipped short recently and bragged he wouldn't get cold as our weather here is mild. I shouldn't have opened my big mouth..and pss don't tell anyone or millions are going to be blaming me for the nasty weather. It's that Murphy guys fault..his laws.

I'm glad you made it through the storms - and that the next one won't be bad. You have really gotten some doozies!

Today it was in the 50's here - totally wierd weather! I'm not used to dealing with mud this time of year. But, it's great on the heating bill!
Glad you are safe!! No, I won't tell about you clipping the dog...ssshhhh.

....wondering if this relates to your storm....

Just finished reading the local weather station's private correspondence to other forecasters and emergency personel (it's fun to have friends who don't mind sharing the secret stuff) and the local forecast is for a very windy period with "high probability of high velocity projectile outdoor Christmas ornaments." Am I to expect BC ornaments arriving shortly?

:D Well think people had been listening to the weather reports and heeding the warnings all week regarding the biggest wind storm to ever hit us.

Looks weird on our street..no one has Christmas lights or decorations out this year..either they never bothered putting them up or they are headed for New Mexico!

hums..up on the rooftops reindeers fly... :D
