Soooo bad!!!

I thought I was going to wring Laika’s neck! Well it was snowing and she was excited. So I thought I will let her of leash. This is at home and I live in cottage country. My neighbors are gone. Well she took off and I had to run through the woods after her. Doesn’t the little brat go into the lake! Wading in drinking the water, not listening to me!! First I am all nice--- please come here, the further she goes in the crazier my pleads get until I a screaming like a nut! I finally waded in and grabbed her. I was mad! But I kept it too myself, while I put her in the crate for the day, yicky wet sheepie. My boyfriend said won’t she come out when she gets cold, he has never owned a dog. Haha! It isn’t that she is stupid, just stubborn. Well no more off leash, next obedience level will help I hope.

You must be lying...there is no way a dog as cute as Laika could be secretly evil

It's always the cute ones...grrrr.
I can totally relate!!

My sweet little angel Genevieve is the same way. I never, ever trust her off leash anywhere there is not a fence.
If she gets out, she doesn't even know who I am.
Mommy who? Do I know you lady? Why are you calling my name?

I have not been angry like that in a long long time! The fact I had to walk through that icy water woooo I am getting mad!! So bad!! She didn't even look up when I was screaming.

I am a little afraid when the ice freeze - but not all the ways; if she goes running out and falls through. Oh my nerves!! Something else to worry about.
It's the girls-- I'm telling you!

Lucy's 12 and still has no idea who I am if she gets loose, which luckily hasn't happened for a long time. Now she's old and doesn't hear well either so I have a hard time telling if she's ignoring me or if she can't hear when I call. I trust Clyde and Bear about 99% to always come back when called. They're good boys. :)
First off our OES have pretty good recall....BUT...if by chance they forget who we are when we are out running off leash....we NEVER yell their names...it is ....TREAT...or...or cookie...or....In the VAN...or BYE BYE time or I've even used "what's momma got?" (usually means cheese in our house)....I've gotten a much better response with these than trying to get their attention with their names when some glorious smell has more of their attention than me. lol

Now Afghan hounds...huh? once they are off lead...the Lord save ya. My thought is ...when in doubt don't let them off lead...it isn't worth it! 8O
Laika is so adorable I'm sure you didn't stay mad long... I think that's a sheepdog survival trait.

Michele, good point!
My first oes would take off like a rocket every chance she got, and the ONLY thing that would make her come back would be to yell "car ride"" and open and close the car door. LOL
LOL not with that face..she can't be evil...well maybe mischievious! :D

Many years ago when my previous Shaggy girl was alive she was a runner and I was forever chasing her down the street in my pj's. Until I had a wonderful woman who was a trainer said..she thinks it's a gamel..run the opposite way..you'll see she will come back to you. It works! You also have to speak in that sweet sing song kinda voice..as if play time. Kids like sheepies hesitate to come back if they think they are in trouble.

Good idea from CW's about treats to teach recall!

Isn't THAT the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I usually do the run away thing at it works. But it was like she didn't even see me and the only way to run was up the hill from the lake, she won't have seen me running through the woods.

PS I forgave her.
of course you forgave her :hearts: she's just to beautiful, not to.......
