Dingleberry EMERGENCY

I cannot believe this happened............... Doug took Tasker out last night and very quickly brought him back saying SOMETHING WAS WRONG. Tasker was walking around all humped over like he needed to poop (not the usual "poop walk").

I checked his butt and was horrified to discover that he had a major case of SOLID DINGLEBERRIES that had completly blocked his poop shoot. I KNOW I checked his backside within the last week and it was fine. His hair is only about 1-2 inches long so there just isn't that much to tangle.

It was awful, AWFUL!!!! At 10:00 last night we were DEDINGLEBERRYING the poor guy, trimming his butt and giving him a shower. Tonight I'll get the clippers out and give him a good trim.

So this is just a reminder, check the backside regularly!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the poop stuck club!! :clappurple: :clappurple:

Is this really the only time it's happened to you? Keep those shoot hairs trim!
Poor Tasker. Did he get a chance to go POOP now that he has been DEDINGLEBERRIED?
I hope Tasker is alright now, and can do his things.
Charlotte has no tail, cassy does.
They always said that dogs with tails r much cleaner on their behinds.....well cassy must be the acception to this rule, because she had a little while ago also a blocked up behind...
Poor thing, i clipped her poo-poo area very short, also a part of her tail.
Doug took him out and said he did a BOAT LOAD   I can honestly say in 11 years this is the first FULL IMPACTION we have ever had. Digleberries yes, impaction NOOOOOOO. Good think I'm a nurse, poor Doug was gagging (he held Taskers head) as I gloved up and went "in". NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to ask....

Pictures?

ewwww!
NO PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Tasker for having it happen to him! Poor Ginny and Doug to have to clean his heiny!! :phew: It's amazing how fast something like that can happen. I have to do the same thing with Drez, and it's no picnic!! :twitch:
Yicky!
It's just that I've never seen this in that many years either. Does Tasker have that much of a tail? How about pics of the newly cleaned area?
Very little tail, ok Ron I'll take pics after the clipper trim!!!!!!!!!!
That's cheating... I wanna see how it looked when the problem happened. :(
Well, that would be difficult since I grabbed a pair of scissors and "had at it" (my $150.00 Ginger fabric shears I might add  ). I was HONESTLY apraid he would implode, there was that much BACK UP.

I won't go into the gory details about what happened when the pressure was released BUT IT WAS UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really only takes about a half inch of hair to cause a blockade. With all of the hair around here, it's a constant vigil!

Yuck is right! But pictures would have been interesting...its amazing what we want to see...

Ive found that nothing beats the good scissors...lol...isnt that why they made alcohol??

Glad his pooper shoot is all back to normal....poor baby...Panda sends her wettest kisses to Tasker!

Tasker was not happy with me...........even this morning I SWEAR I got a nasty look!!!
Sorry Ginny....but I am laughing at your explanation...I am glad things are ok with Tasker.

I just had an episode with Frank only last week. It was the last "out" before bed & needless to say I wasn't happy about having to spend 20 minutes for removal & clean-up. I try to keep it very short there but it's been about a month since a trim. Very tricky getting it out so you don't hurt them.

One time with my old dog I had to do an extraction right outside my neighbor's kitchen window. Needless to say they still make fun of me about this.
Yea, well MURPHYS Law says it will always happen at the WORST possible time. I already had my jammies on and was clean and ready for bed!!!!
Poor Tasker!! Poor Ginny!! Poor Doug!!

Ewww...YUK!! :cow:

I made it a habit ever since Beau was a little tyke to check his bottom every night. I started checking Genny's, too, of course, when I adopted her. Since then, it's just sort of a ritual. A quick check and then out for last call. Didn't realize what a disaster I was averting. 8O
My co-workers are looking at me like I am crazy. I am laughing so hard after reading this whole thread. OMG only other sheepie owners could understand and sympathize. ROFLMAO
hahaha im so glad that we can now use "dedingleberryed" as a verb here!
Well, I'll leave it to an ENGLISH Major to correct the spelling, I thought later that perhaps the correct spelling would be:
Dedingleberried
Poor Tasker, POOR EWE 8O

We call it Gum Nuts here I still like Carls description "Klingons" for star wars fans.

Oh the joys and humiliations we suffer because of Hairy Butts. :? Joy and relief for Tasker, humiliation for Mom 8)

Nothing phases me anymore when it comes to sheepies.
Poor Tasker.....and Poor Ginny.... :?

Maybe it's a guy thing? :cow:

Bosley is often found with a small "package" over the poop shute...about the size of a pack of cigarettes. He is checked often during the week...I sometimes have to wipe his bum at the dog park :( so I keep baby wipes in my dog park bag.

With Dixie, we can't even find her opening, and even the vet has trouble taking her temperature. She has a little nub, about 2 inches. It is hidden in there, somewhere. She NEVER has dingleberries, large or small.

Canadian cigarettes? GROSS! That's huge!
Oh, how I symphathize!!! We had a similar episode. As a nurse I too went IN to find " the problem ". Bob was gagging in the yard. As I was into the.....well, I reminded Chauncey that this is LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is THANK GOODNESS I HAD GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW - I'm so glad to know what to check for!!!
Oh MY gosh...tears are rolling I'm laughing so hard. Have to say we had the same problem. Simon came in from outside and suddenly it smelled awful. Checked the backside and sure enough..there it was. Tried washcloths and that didn't work. Dh not home at the time and Simon DOES NOT LIKE BATHS. Had to fight to get him into the tub, had to fight to keep him in there while I dug out the klingons. Hard to do that with one hand on the dog and one hand holding the shower head to get him wet and soapy. When we finished and out of the tub, I discover I DIDN'T GET IT ALL. Dh comes home about this time and says as he walks in the door" Smell like sh#@ in here. Oh duh. Simon goes back to the tub with both of us this time and I finally get it all off. I check the backside as he comes in now...Pam aka Simon's Mom
i really am daft sometimes. i had to read through the post before i was sure i was on the same page ...but now i am sure olive has a dingleberry problem. I wash her butt so much it is like having a real infant. she is so used to it now she will just stand there for me. wow i really feel for you having to do an extraction.. but really yucky i would do it too if nessassary, but yuck...
We have had messes with the sheepdogs, but no total plug-ups. With the sheep however, we HAVE had the total plug. Anatomically, the same issue, just wool instead of hair.

I totally second the "thank goodness I had gloves"!!!!
I'm so glad I stuck a pair of gloves in the doggie box! So far we haven't hand a full impaction, but then we are quite used to reaching down and feeling (and I dare say praying it isn't soft down there.) Hard crusties are just picked off, softies......well......that's a more intense cleaning and then off to the clippers.

Haven't had a problem with Pyrs, but then we do try to keep the poop shoot open for all the guys and gals.

Thanks Ginny, that was amusing! for me!
So sorry about your dingleberry hell Ginny.
I was there myself today. Been trying to get Pepsi up on the grooming table to 3 1/2 weeks now. I knew his hair there was getting too long.

This past week he would walk in from being outside and a piece of poop that had not fallen out outside would fall off his butt. Billy finally helped me get him up there. Scissors to the rescue!! Then the clippers. Now he has a nice clean shaved butt. :D
I will definitely make sure that I check my puppy's butt everytime he goes poop!!!

I would not like to do an extraction!! :?

Nic
Our Bill always had problems with blockages so it bacame common to hear us ask each other " Did you Check Bill's Butt?" We even have a special set of wash cloths just for the purpose of washing Bill's butt. Got to be common practice for Bill to show me his butt so his Mom (me) could wash it with nice warm soapy water, he liked to feel clean. All this time we thought it was just Bill who went through this, it is kind of nice to know that is it a Sheepie "thing". Must admit that our Maggie who has a tail has NEVER had this problem, strange but true.
Speaking of dingleberry helll..... Dancer has had diarreah due to a food switch, and what a mess this morning. My day is going to be spent bathing her and re washing all of my floors that I spent all day yesterday doing
HAHAHA
Everyone who comes over always laughs when I bring the dogs in, cause there's always the moment zak and stella look at me and wait to see if they hear, " Get in the tub"... with that they both bound down the hallway and it's a race to see who jumps in the tub first for a butt washing haha
okay, maybe I'm a little slow here. We have definitely had the occasional little piece of poop stuck in hair, but I don't understand the total blockage. Would that mean that they aren't able to go for a day or more? In other words, as long as my dog is pooping on her normal schedule, I shouldn't worry about that?

If your dog squats to poop and nothing comes out...THEN you worry. HA
The blockage is caused when stickey poop matts the long hair around the poop shoot. The dog tries to poop and the DOOR IS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!! It occurs when the stars are aligned just right, which means the owner (me) has gotten lazy about keeping the butt hair trimmed and the intestinal track is producking....shall we say, softer than normal stool. The stool clings to the untrimmed hair, the negligent owner (me) forgets to do a butt check and VOILA you have a Dinglberry EMERGENCY!
Yeah....we had one the other night...Merlin was squatting but not producing...I said to the kids...get the rubber gloves I'm going in....I totally grossed out all the kids.....Merlin was quite happy to be able to go again....time for a butt cut for Merlin
 :D  :D  :D
okay, thanks. That is good to know. The thought of having to go in and fix that problem is enough to scare me into keeping her butt trimmed! 8O
You SHOULD be afraid, VERY AFRAID
As a Saint Bernard person who happens to have an OES (mix) foster at the moment, I need to tell you all that this is very, very, very disturbing! 8O 8O 8O 8O I didn't know what was going on until about the third page! 8O 8O 8O
               :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
"I'm goin'in!" MUST have scared the kids! Fiona has had small bouts of "not sure I wanna let go", but we put her in the tub, which she loves, and just blast it off. She will come in sometimes and drop a little deposit for later surprise viewing. Lucky for her she is so cute, we would do ANYTHING for her.
I still haven't clipped Merlin's back end  This morning while he was running inside from going potty, a poop came flying off his butt...onto the kitchen floor.....geesh....when the kids get home from school I'll need them to help me get him on the grooming table...we need to clip him for sure 8)
I haven't had any mishaps with Laika yet, I think it might be because she walks as she poos! Like she is trying to get away from it, which isn't fun for me because it isn't just a one time pick up, bend pick up, oop another; bend pick up. :D
Fortunately I've never had this problem w/ Daisy and hope we never do. I do try to keep her trimmed to avoid any problems. She is extremely conscious of any "dingleberries" and will not leave the area until everything is cleaned up one way or another.

I even took her to the vets once because she would "scoot" her butt across the ground and I figured it was a sign of having worms or some other problem. The vet didn't find any problems, no worms and the anal glands were fine. I finally figured that she was just making sure everything was cleaned up before going back inside.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness!!
I am glad that I read this thread! We had our first experience with "dingle berries"! 8O Watson has his tail, so we went ahead and shaved his bum!It isn't that obvious, and I would rather he be clean! Oh my..............
Welcome to the club!! :D
