Help - I'm housesitting a sick sheepdog

Help! I'm housesitting my friend's dog, and he seems to be sick. I've watched him before, and he's usually a little weird the first day, but this is different.
He threw up twice, and all night long I heard noises that sounded like really loud stomach growling...but it was coming from his rear end.
What have I done? What should I do?
And what's the best thing to clean vomit out of carpet?
Thanks!

call your friend, and find out who she uses for her local vet, and then call them. glad you came here. to me, that is the where i would start.

if she didn't leave you a number, i'd call your nearest vet clinic. asking their advice doesn't cost anything.

and i always thought stomach growling from the butt was called a fart?

did you feed the dog anything other than its dog food? many dogs get diarrhea when left at a kennel, for example, and given a food other than the one they normally eat and/or any treats.
Do you think it's that serious? I'm totally an under-reactor (if that's a word). Should I just take him for a walk and see if he feels a bit better? He did have a long day inside yesterday... the person my friends asked to let him out didn't.
They weren't farts... there was nothing coming out. It seriously just sounded like a stomach growling.

I haven't fed him anything strange. I got to the house late last night, and he got sick. I got up early to walk him (5:30 AM in the snow!!), fed him and took off for work. But I'm going home in an hour. Hopefully I can exercize him, let him walk it off. He is a very big dog in a pretty small house.
If you don't overreact normally then it sounds like it's more of a reason to be concerned. Just calling the vet would be quicker than waiting for an answer here. They will tell you what to do, and if you need to bring the dog in.

Then, you can come back and continue to read the helpful suggestions I'm sure others will leave you here.

good luck. i hope it all goes away.
I appreciate your kindness. I'm off work in ten minutes, I'll call a vet on my way home. I hope I don't have any "surprises" waiting for me!

Thanks again.
I would definitely call the owner of the dog and let them know what the symptoms are and ask if you can call the vet and/or what do they want you to do.
If he is vomiting and has diarrhea, DON'T FEED HIM til it stops!!!!!!!!!!! Sheepies can go a day or so without food, it sometimes helps.

The best thing to do is consult the Vet. Sheepies can be safely given both Pepto Bismal and Kaopectate. Canned pumpkin will help diarrhea but not vomiting.

When you do start him back on food, start with plain boiled rice, then add LEAN ground beef on day two. Don't resume normal food till his stools are normal.
I would contact a vet, he may have eaten something prior to him being with you that could have caused an intestinal obstruction.
If he is back to normal it's probably nothing to worry about but if he is still sick, definitely call his owner and ask what they want you to do :)
How are things going? Please give us an update.

What a wonderful friend you are to give such good care
to your friends ill sheepie. You were smart to recognize
that something was not right and to contact the vet.
Thanks all, I appreciate your kind words.

I did call the vet, and they said to not feed him for a day, get him lots of excercize, and see how it goes. I did just that, and I'm happy to say that he started having good poops! (funny how poop can make your day)

I think he was just nervous because his mom and dad were gone. I'm the usual babysitter, but someone else watched him last time, as I was out of the country. It didn't go well at all. But he's used to me, and once he realized that his normal "plan b" was here, he was fine.

We've spent a couple hours a day at the dog park, plus the walk back and forth, and I'm sure that helped. He's a very fun dog.

Thanks again, you all seem very cool. :)
Glad to hear he is doing better!
Yay, I'm glad things worked out.......
Yeaa :cheer: Amazing what a good poop will do
Yes indeed, we spend a lot of net time on POOP here
Good news! :)
Great news, what a good plan B, I'd be happy to have you as my back-up. Hope your friend realizes what a great job you do.....Kathy& Chauncey
haha thanks everybody. Yes, they do appreciate me (as well they should!!) :) the dog loves me too.

his mom and dad are back in town. he's thrilled.
