Clyde's Having Surgery on Thursday

Well, we went to the vet today and, although it's healed better, the lump is still there and needs to be removed. The fluid in the wound is gone but the swollen area has hardened. It could be scar tissue, an incidental cyst or some further debris hidden in the swelling. The vet recommended just removing it to take out any guesswork or future potential problems. I know it isn't major but it still sucks that the poor kid has to go through it. On the plus side, the vet is very sweet and is going to clean his teeth for free (since they barely need a cleaning) and x-ray his hips (just for fun now that he's 2-- I gotta pay for that though!) while he's under.

Bear is barely apologetic for what he did to Clyde-- in fact, he acts like he has no idea that it's his fault. It appears all my talking-tos have done nothing to make him feel guilty. ;) Actually this week has gone pretty well and has been incident free. They've been getting along well on their own and the time or two someone got a little weird, we diffused it before it began, without incident. It really requires us to be on our toes at all time to watch their interactions with each other. So much for just relaxing at home!

But as far as surgery goes, I know everything will be fine but start throwing your good vibes and mojo our way now so he comes through well on Thursday and has a speedy recovery.

Clyde appreciates your well wishes. :P

AWww.. poor Bear. However, I'm jealous you're getting a free cleaning. On an OES, that's EXPENSIVE!!! Although I guess that makes sense since he'll already be down. I hope it isn't too painful for him :(

My cat has a harden bump over her belly. We got the same guesses you did from the doctor to what it was, but we're pretty sure it was from when she was spayed.
Awww... sorry Clyde has to have surgery. At least as your vet said, it will take out the "guess work" and future worrying as it should heal up nicely once the lump is removed.
Best wishes to Clyde for a speedy recovery and no further puncture wounds! :)
Will keep Clyde in our prayers for a good outcome to his surgery.
Best wishes and mojo Clyde, we are thinking of you. Kelsey is especially sending bit wet sloppy kisses as she has been there and done that 2 years ago. She would also like to tell clyde, even though he will have a nekid spot the hair will grow back and you will dazzle the girls with your big pearly white teeth too.
Poor Clyde! :( :ghug:
I hope he heals quickly. :plead:
Best wishes to Clyde! I'm sure he'll be just fine. I hope this is just a phase and you can get back to relaxing at home.
Wishing Clyde a speedy recovery. Hope the surgery goes well, no matter how minor its always a worry.
Poor Clyde! We have our mojo on just for him!
Poooor Clyde! No more exploding pus pics, either. :(

Stay strong Clyde!!! Make the most of your recovery time. Bear will start feeling bad when he sees all the special attention you get because of him!
Good luck Clyde.. we will be thinking about ya!!!

According to Dudley...girls dig scars!!
ahhh...poor baby. Hope Clyde comes through with no problems and the healing is quick and uncomplicated.

Kisses to Clyde.
Aw, poor Clyde! Nelson, Jr. sends good karma his way.

Jill, are you thinking of taking some video of the surgery???
We will be sending prayers your way Clyde and some for mom too.

Nah, like Ron said, the pus is gone so, consequently, so is the fun.
Good luck to Clyde on Thursday. I'm sure he'll feel better with all this taken care of.
Aww, poor Clyde!! I'm sure he'll be just fine, but the inherent worry will still be there . . .

Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!!
Clyde will be fine! Barney and I will be thinking good thoughts for him (well, I will, I can't vouch for what Barney is thinking!)
Best wishes to Clyde, I will keep him in my prayers :hearts:
Panda and I send our biggest mojo's to Clyde!! Give the boy a big kiss and hug from us!!

:ghug:

Awwwww.......

Dixie sends kisses and Bosley wants to see the scar before it heals over... 8O 8O
That's stinky for Clyde! The mean ones are never sorry and never thimk anything is their fault
Bear's not mean, he's just definitely not an OES and doesn't share that temperament-- even a little. He is every bit a guard dog. I once read somewhere (I think it may have been dog.com) that you should "never insult a Komondor." I laughed at the time but now I think I know what they meant.

You know, I don't want to give the impression that Clyde got whaled on. He just got the worse of the injuries. If he was matted, he probably would've faired better! Bear's almost impossible to injure because of his cords but Clyde did split his lip. I think the fact that something actually hurt Bear, kind of scared him because after that scuffle, we really haven't had any more.
Definately correct there, bear is just a different breed and a different nature to an OES. He is still a sweetie too and boys will be boys, heck I get that with 2 male kids, not the biting but the tiffs.

I can see why the cords are the way they are and how much protection it does give them. I was looking at the photos that Verveup took at the show mandy was at and the Kom with the full corded coat, WOW. Nothing would penetrate that  Absolutely stunning looking dogs. :D

Keep up the good work with the cording.
Did you say that Bear leaves Lucy alone? Who is Bear's favorite in the house (person)? :) Is he independent?
Neither of them mess with Lucy. She backs Bear right up into corners and he's whining and yelping if she gets in his face-- she doesn't even touch him. We always laugh because many times, after she's done "disciplining" him, when she walks away, she walk under him. She's the smallest one by almost half of both of them and she whips both of them into shape. Lucy and Clyde have a different relationship than Lucy and Bear.

Lucy tolerates Clyde and accepts more of his annoyances, I think, because she's had him around since he was tiny. I wouldn't call it "liking" him, but it's almost there! Bear came in big, and in her eyes, annoying from the get go so she has much less patience for his antics. I really love how Clyde always comes to Lucy's rescue. If Bear is messing with her, he comes blasting over and body slams him or humps him until Bear turns around and plays with him instead. He'll do the same thing at the dog park if he sees another dog bothering her. I don't even care what crazy reasoning Clyde uses for doing it, I'm just glad he does.

Bear is more independent. He likes to lay in other rooms away from us, but Clyde is up on the couch. A lot of of it, I suspect, is the fact that he's always warm so the cool floor is more comfortable than the couch. When we come home in the evening, Bear is intensely, explosively happy for about 30 seconds, and then he wants outside. Clyde stays in and runs back and forth hugging us. He's more subdued on his own, but Clyde riles him up a lot. All in all, I'd say Bear is exactly in the middle of Lucy and Clyde in terms of his-- Lucy doesn't need us, Bear needs us a little and Clyde needs us a lot. ;) But, the nice thing is, it's a good mix and it seems to work nicely for us... when no one needs surgery.

Wow, can you tell I can't sleep tonight? I way more than answered that question!
Do you have any pics of an adult Kom with a shaved face?

I'd like to see the shape of the head and snout without too much fur.

Maggie does the same thing for Chumley! A couple of times this week, Chum wanted to go to the dogpark. She loves to greet the people but often puppies and other assertive dogs come up and want to investigate. It stresses Chum out because she'll be lying on the ground wanting petting and she cannot move quickly to get out of the way. So she barks and snaps, which then can get the other dog riled up and I worry about someone getting hurt. But when Maggie sees or hears Chum being bothered, she'll come flying across the park and herd the other dogs away. She gets right in the middle and will start by trying to lure the other dog away with play moves. But if the dog doesn't get the hint, Maggie will even grab scruffs to pull them away. It is so funny and sweet.
WE'RE THINKING OF YOU TODAY CLYDE! Can't wait til you're done and we can see you smile with your pearly whites!
Thanks for all your well wishes, everyone. We dropped Clyde off this morning and he should be ready to come home this evening. He was way too excited for a dog that was having surgery! I'll post an update as soon as I hear anything.
