Someone talk sense to me!

Oh I need more furballs like I need a hole in the head...shoes yes! more pets..no! Well not at this particular time anyway.

I previously wrote how the SPCA called me up with frantic pleas in Aug as they were swarmed with Mom cats and kittens and no room. I hadn't applied so I knew they were desperate as the last time I fostered I ended up adopting both cats.

The first cat that arrived in Aug was a very tiny boned kitty whom was just past kittenhood herself and her four (all different kittens) whom were 3 wks. As much as I loved them I remained strong and had a host of people coming to my home to view them. The kittens all found good homes that had been screened by the cat cordinator previous to their visit to my place.
Then I got another young cat whom also had kittens that had been adopted. I needed to take in both cats for spaying and recouperation before returning them to the shelter.

But..no room at the inn! The shelter was still full in Sept and Oct and insisting to return them would mean another cat had to be put down at the shelter to make room for them. I couldn't do that! No way! So I told the coordinator they are fine where they are until they have room.

One doesn't particularly like other cats so she can't go to Petcetra where the SPCA has a communal cat room where foster cats are sometimes sent. The other tiny framed one was a bit sickly after spaying and is still a bit skinny. She needed more time at my home. Or perhaps I keep finding reasons not to send them back?

Lana races up to me with kisses on my face and loud vocal noises while purring. Tiny Tasha immediately gives soft meows when she sees me and jumps on my lap, licking my hands. Tasha has no fear of the dogs and is like a ragdoll kitty in my arms, she's content to sit with me in the Living Room oblivious to the rambunctious antics of the boys. She fits perfectly in my home.

The longer it is...the harder for me. I have fallen in love with both but already have Merlin, Panda, Blue, LG, Mama Cat, Daisy , Paris, Puff and Squeak..the dogs, cats, bunny and Guinea Pig.

Someone talk some sense in me!!!! Hurry I'm weakening...unable to resist wanting to give them forever home with me.

As long as you can afford them, KEEP THEM!!! When you have one or two cats already... a few more can't hurt.

We need you to post more pics too.

In all seriousness, I would keep them as long as I still thought it was possible to find a way for someone to watch them while I was gone. Not sure how often you go places, but that's always our concern. It seems harder and harder to find babysitters the more animals we get. Traveling with all of them gets hard too!
Marianne...be strong.....

Are the kitties getting any exposure at all? Are they in a book or on a website anywhere?

If you decide to keep them you are pretty well unable to foster anymore, and that in itself could be a death sentence for other needy critters.

Foster homes do not get the credit that is so deserved for the emotional termoil that is suffered looking into the helpless little faces of the critters in care.

If you decide to adopt 2 more kitties it needs to be for the right reason. Only you can decide what that reason is. Myself, I always think of the other little ones down the road that may need a stepping stone onto their furever home...

If only people would spay/neuter thier pets....then wonderful people like yourself would not have to take on their responsibilites.....Don't fall into that trap.

(But then who am I to talk?? I was Dixie's foster home for 6 months)
Hi,

You both sound my my conscience!! I've been going back and forth on this so many times. I tell myself that I love them and while I would have to pay 200 for their adoption fees and would now have 6 cats which need annual shots, food, and other essentials..It will be tough but managable. My vet is great as he already gives me a 40% discount for my 4 cats and 30% discount for the dogs. (This is for their yearly innoculations only). Other vet fees I have to pay full price.

On the other hand, Nicole you also said the reasons why I am so torn. These two are healthy young cats and may have a chance at adoption..seniors or black cats chances are minimal. If I wanted more cats, I lean towards the more unadoptable ones. I also wrote about the tiny 8wk old kitten that was by himself when I went to pick up the foster mom and kittens. I inquired why he was alone but staff said they didn't know, that evening the coordinator told me he had been put down as he was semi feral. Only 8 wks old and not given a chance!

I swore I would continue to foster for that very reason..I want to take on the semi-feral kittens and socialize them, I have the rooms in my home available for that very purpose.

Sigh so I'm torn between the logical and emotional. It's so hard when you love them, to give them up and yet I don't want to be selfish if a forever home can perhaps be found for them. They have been listed on the Petfinder/SPCA website with no takers since Aug.

Maybe fate will solve your dilemma. Keep them posted. If they don't get adopted, you will be happy. If they do get adopted, you will be happy too!
Just remember, we don't want to be hearing headlines about another CAT WOMAN found living with 150 cats   149, Fine but 150 is over the line
Why would they make you pay the adoption fee for both, why not at the very least combine a 2 for 1...this is what we have once in awhile of they shelter is over crowded. Couldn't they adjust the fee?

I love the size of your property....it looks like you are quite private. So more pets are not gonna bother the neighbours???

It is tough but I would probably just adopt them. Sounds like they are not going to be easy to adopt out, and if they've made themselves attached to you...you made them come along away.

How are they towards company?

If they are returned to be adopted out, will they give them some time at least to be seen by the public? I'd hate to think that they'd put them to sleep after a day or two.

What about you placing them privately...with the spca's help. If you found a home and they liked the cats...can't you make the decision? Then accompany them with the cat, and hand it over inside the spca's building? Rather then waiting for people to find you...just thinking you could find the right person.
OH poor Marianne! I know how you feel. We live in a townhome, and I just read about the poor sheepies in Chicago that need homes, and am trying to figure out how to talk to Tony about it.

EEK!!! MARIANNE! WHAT'S WRONG WITH US????????????

(We have 150 pounds of dogs, and about 20 pounds of cats here already!!!!!)
Yuppers I think we're lost causes...our life has gone to the dogs..ha ha!

I always knew my life would be surrounded by lots of furballs when I told my mom as a young kid that I was going to follow in the footsteps of Jane Goodall, Dr. Dolittle and Pipi Longstocking. All my childhood heros!
