The Perfect Storm

That's how our News reporters were labeling the storm of the century that was due to hit the Coast the next day.

Tsanami warnings for Vancouver Island, expected hurricane like winds, heavy storms were all forcasted. (This is very rare for us)

Ferries were cancelled, Hydro crews in preperation for what was going to be a very horrible day and night. It didn't happen as planned and many were caught with their guards down. It supposely was going to happen in the evening and early hours but the next morning seemed perfectly normal.

Suddenly the power went out at my school, but fortunately it was only 5 mins before the end of the day so parents were there to pick up the kids.

The 15 mins it normally takes me to drive home took over an hour as every intersection was operating by four way stops. No power in every major intersection and others. I was thinking how lucky I was to have gotten off at 2:30 as soon the rush hour would begin and commuters would have a worse time than me.

Steel girders fell off a building under contruction in the city but luckily the crew was on coffee break when it happened. Trees fell on homes, transformers blew up, thousands left without power. I didn't have power for almost 24 hrs but considered myself lucky as I have a couple of fireplaces and so many candles that I could actually keep warm and even read a book. Others weren't as lucky and told of being stuck in traffic for up to six hours. The worst storm to ever hit our province as long as anyone remembers.

I showed up for school today and discovered the power was still off as the school but we are required to at least show up, sign in and go home. Another horrible day of no power at intersections but least I got an unexpected day off!

My new ESL job which was supposed to start last night was cancelled!

Hooray a bonus as I didn't want to even be travelling under those conditions. It's just nice to be home safe and sound. Merlin, Panda and Blue were all at my side (me on the couch) with fuzzy blanket, surrounded by the cats too, fireplace going, candles, ahhhh.

What a mess. How lucky you got by safely, and even got to relax a bit. I'm sure your animals were happy you were stuck at home!
SCARY!! 8O Glad you fared the storm well.
I'm so glad you are safe, and I guess it's cool you got the day off? I'm sure you were excited about starting. :)
We had 5 inchs of rain yesterday followed by lots of flooding. Most of our schools are cancelled today and Doug spent the night out witht he Fire Truck pumping water out of places it wasn't supposed to be, AND shoveling mud slides off the local roads.
Oh Marianne, I was thinking about you all every time the newscast showed BC. Are you one of those unlucky ones that has to boil water? What a storm.
Hope you guys are all ok.
I'm glad you are safe Marianne, I too thought of you every time they showed the destruction on the news.

Sitting in front of the fireplace with your babies gathered around is not a bad way to send the day.. enjoy!!!
Wow! I had no idea! I was too busy with our own storm going on over here. Glad you're okay...
So glad you're all okay! It's been a bad week weatherwise for a lot of places. :( We had storms through here on Wednesday. Jake had a tornado drill at school since we were having severe thunderstorm warnings, and the poor boy was confused and thought it was a real tornado. He got scared, and he told me after he got out of school that he was mad at me for not coming to get him when he was so scared.
Hi,

Thanks for all the well wishes and responses. You know I couldn't help thinking of you guys while it was occuring - those of you that live in the Midwest and have Tornandoes. Those on the Florida Coast that have experienced Hurricanes. Mother Nature!

Another storm is supposed to hit tonight so I may be without my computer for the weekend.

Unfortunately all 3 million residents have to boil their water before using it as the heavy rains affected our water system. Oh groaners! I boiled lots of pots so the furkids could have water as we all supposed to do this for 3 days.

Except for a tiny piece of siding , my roof is intact, furballs all snug inside, sons are okay so no complaints from me!
