Hi Welcome eks,

Please contact your state OES Breed club with looking to purchase a puppy. Links below for 2 OES Clubs, Victoria and South Australia.

Qld has a state club, so does WA & NSW, so again Contact the state Kennel councils there to get a contact number for those OES breed clubs.

Links.

This post made inspired me to look up registration stats for Australia, Canada and the US...
It's all about the same per capita, Australia 77, Canada 144, and the states 1403. Compared to labs in the states at 123,760! 8O That's a LOT of lab pups born in a year. These stats of course do not include unregistered dogs.
By the way, the average litter size in Canada for oes was 6.2,(144 pups in 23 litters) but I haven't been able to find those stats for Oz or the US.
I like the data. I was surprised at Lisa's post that only 77 were born in all of Australia.

It seems like there would be more than that in Canada although I guess it makes sense. I know there were only about 13 registered litters of Komondorok in 2005, which makes sense why I never see any others! That information came from the MASKomondor club. Where did you find your statistics, Stacey? I'd like to read more.
I'd like to read more too.

The Canadian numbers seem low, but that's only registered dogs. With only 10 breeders in Canada showing last year (as Carl said in another post), there are likely much more pups being born in Canada that aren't registered.

The AKC website has some interesting information on registration rates by breed, but I couldn't find any info like that on the CKC website.
Lol. We all already know of one Canadian breeder who doesn't register...

No there are not many breeders who don't register in Canada. Most breeders keep an extremely close eye out for that sort of thing. It is a very protected breed here. Not that people who breed un registered dogs don't exist, but it's far more rare here than in the states, even per capita I believe.

All the stats I quoted come from the AKC and CKC websites. The CKC info is only available to members who are able to log in.
Here's the link to the registration info on AKC.

Here is the link for the Australian National Kennel Council registration satistics. OES are listed under Group 5 - Working dogs.

The decline here in the breed is due to Tail Docking ban, brought in, in 2004. Breeders are coming to terms with it, and waiting the 2006 registration results on the breed. They are starting to breed again, so I am sure that 2006 will be more pups Aus.wide then 2005.

You can look up other breeds on this site too.

Jil Koms are listed under Group 5 too on this link. :D

In Canada there was 1 litter of 13 komondor puppies in the course of a year...
The AKC lists 24 Kom litters in 2005 so I'm wondering if my club stats are just for mid-Atlantic states since that's the region the club covers. I told Bear he should feel very important to be one out of only 24 litters. Oddly, he didn't seem impressed. (He apparently was registered but since his first family dumped him at the pound, they didn't bother sending his papers along with him :()
Now you know why I have not seen one in the Flesh, I knew they were big cordy kids, but never realised the size till you got bear and standing next to clyde shows that. 8O

Geez will have to come to the states to see one for real.

The royal melbourne show had them entered a few years ago, sucks they never turned up for the show.

To be honest, it was a bit of a surprise to us, too. LOL. We knew about how tall and what weight he could be from our research but one thing that they never mention is length. There's a huge difference between a 26" long 100+ pound dog and an over 40" long of about the same weight. Add in the tail and he's nearly 7 feet from tip of the nose to tip of the outstretched tail. Bear knows how to take up space. James still likes to say "Um, I was told he would be Clyde's size. I feel like I've been lied to." Then Bear and I just laugh at him. ;)

My apologies for this pretty severe hijacking of this thread.
You need to get yourself on a waiting list I have a litter of oes at present but some of the people have been waiting 12 months, I am waiting for another girl to come into season so I can mate her she is overdue
Hi Rose there are poeple waiting on various state OES Club waiting lists from all over Oz, just not enough around. Met a nice couple today at the OES Club obedience morning, had oes before and looking desperately for another.

The Vic club have quite a few waiting on the puppy list from all over Australia. :(
