Borat, the idiot

I knew this had to happen. He got punched out by someone he was playing a joke on. You can only jack with people so much before you run into someone who won't think it's funny.

Quote:
According to London's Sun newspaper Cohen, adopting the character of Borat, the Kazakhstani TV reporter, approached the man and said: "I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it."

But the bystander didn't see the joke and punched Cohen in the face.

The comedian was struck again and again before being rescued by actor friend Hugh Laurie of TV show House, who was accompanying Cohen to a New York bar.

I don't think his character, out of his movie role, is funny. I'm sure his "movie" will be funny, but he can't come up with funny lines when being interviewed, imo. I've seen him on Letterman, Regis, Today Show, etc... and was just annoyed. Thank goodness, other actors don't play their movie role character every time they're interviewed.

LOL... I doubt it will teach him to keep his mouth shut.

I haven't seen him in any interviews, nor have I seen the movie, only previews. I have seriously been thinking of going to see it, but after watching some trailers, it just doesn't look "that" funny.

Has anyone seen it yet?
My stepsons wanted to see it so Tim took them. Tim and Ian (18) thought it was completely stupid and not funny. In fact, Tim described it as "less funny than 'Jackass'". Kyle (15) loved it. So there's a humor scale for you!
Are you kidding me? It was hilarious. Borat is my favorite character of Sacha Baron Cohen, who I think, is a comedic genius. He never breaks character, which is what makes Borat so incredibly believable. His next movie is going to feature his Austrian gay fashion model character, Bruno, who is also hilarious.

I don't think many of the people on this forum will find it very funny, though. If being politically correct is important to you, than definitely don't see it. If you're someone who does not like your humor to cross the line of comfort, don't see it. It's also definitely not family friendly. I might even go as far as to say if you consider yourself a "nice" person, then you probably shouldn't see it. ;)
I've heard that it is absolutely hilarious, so I can't wait to go see it. I hope it lives up to all I've heard!

Steph, I think you'll really like it. It's awesome and I can't wait to see it again. We're looking forward to the DVD already.
I cannot wait to go see this movie too. I loved watching the Ali G show when I had HBO and I think Borat was definitely the best character. I was wondering how that would translate to full length movie but I guess the answer is obvious.
I heard the movie is hilarious too. I'm not offended by political correctness at all, so I'll buy it once it comes out on dvd. But "movie character" and "borat interviewed" are different because he doesn't have a script and it's not in context.
a lot of the movie is not scripted, and his skits on the ali g show are not scripted at all. He really doesn't break character, and I read somewhere that to get ready to play Borat he doesn't shower or wash his suit, so on top of being totally obnoxious he also smells really bad! I havent seen any of his interviews, but I would be really disappointed if they weren't funny since I love his character so much.

I thought the movie was great- but for those ofo you who were a fan of the show too, were you a little disappointed that he 'recycled' a few of his ideas from the show?
A little bit, but some of those were classic scenes and were probably pretty enjoyable for those who haven't seen the show. I gotta say, I don't really tire of watching Borat over and over so it was no problem for me.

Well, it sounds perfect for me then
I've seen the Ali G show a few times but I hadn't realized that this Borat guy was actually the same actor....
I've never head of Ali G or Borat until recently. Have I been living under a rock? The previews look horribly but funny at the same time. I'll wait for the DVD.
I heard of Ali G a few years ago. Some friends had downloaded clips/episodes of the show.

I think it's on a fancy cable channel... like HBO or Bravo or something? Maybe that's why I've never actually seen it on tv... and maybe why you hadn't heard of it/him, Stacy.
We chose Borat over two others tonite. The young lady at the ticket counter said it was hilarious, laugh all the way through it...rolling in the ailes. It has great reviews...A and A +'s.

Well, Don slept through half of it (I actually had to nudge him as he was snoring)..There were some really shocking funny parts that I really enjoyed...but other than the shock factor I was disappointed. It wasn't as funny as I expected, and some parts were actually ho-hum...boring..

So there are some hilarious scenes, but also some that were funny, but just smile funny...

Honestly, I would warn folks may go and be disappointed.
Just wondering... do you like "The Office?"
You're the first person I know to say that, so I'm surprised. I am expecting it to be one of those movies that get better the more times you watch it. Mr. J and I aren't the type to like movies most of our friends do (such as Zoolander and Dodgeball), but with the right crowd and watching it a few times... things become funnier.

I haven't seen it. If it is on TV, I don't watch much TV at all. Never saw the Ali G show, either.
