Tea Set for men? Anyone know a good place to find one.

Mr. J just called. *dance of joy* Yuki was shaking her butt the entire time.

Anyway, I asked him what he needed, and the last thing I expected him to say was "a tea set."

He has a special (aka.. dangerous) job that puts him in contact with Iraqis every day. He said when they come in his room, it's custom to give them tea.

Okay, tea set ...check.

Then he said, but he doesn't want a girlie kind.

He said the kind they use are glass, but bigger than shot glasses. About the size of a tea set. He also needs something to make tea in (like a thermos you just plug in and it makes hot water).

Anyone come across something like this on a website recently? I don't even really know what he's talking about.

EBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
William Sonoma!!
I plan on looking on ebay.

Did you actually see it on William and Sonoma Darcy? I get their magazines, and don't think I saw anything.

It doesn't have to be too fancy. Actually I don't care either way. I just want to be able to find it for him before I send out his Christmas package.

heres another web site....for electric cordless models
http://cgi.ebay.com/Gorgeous-24K-Gold-P ... dZViewItem

Found this one, very unique. Formal but I wouldn't call it "girlie".
Darcy, that second link is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I didn't even know where to begin, but that's great! Now my problem is finding one that hooks up to a European outlet. Those are 110 volt. What is european? 210???
At least now, I can use the names of the kettles on the link you gave me, and see if there are other sites.

Tasker's mom.. I don't know the importance of this, but it's got to be clear glass (like a shot glass). I mean... that's what it sounded like he was talking about.
Hello Joahaeyo!!! I do know what your other half is referring too. It is in fact costumary to serve tea to any guests that enter a home or event. It is also customary to use only silver utensils.
I believe what you are looking for is called a turkish tea set.
the glasses are skinny and tall almost like a shot glass, and the tea pot is fluted, and does not look like your average tea set.

I would try looking on ebay....and type in turkish tea set. You can get them inexpensive there. Other wise, I have seen them at antique stores for $$$$$, but you can try calling a local antique store and asking....

I do NOT know what the formal name of which that set is called....But I do know it is referred to as "turkish tea set"

I hope this helps you

Here is a turkish tea set!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-HANDMADE-TURKI ... dZViewItem

If you copy and paste this link, this is exactly what your husband is talking about....and it's crystal.

I think that would pass for manly because it's crystal and simple. A traditional set is crystal and 24KT gold.

Hope this helps!!

Michelina~
I get a lot of tea and accessories from this site.

http://www.adagio.com

This particular unit is cool because you put the hot water in and the leaves and then you set it on top of a mug and it strains through the loose leaves and puts the tea out the bottom. I believe that they make a larger version, too. The teas are awesome and there's so many choices.

oh my gosh you guys were VERY helpful! Now, his description makes sense! The turkish tea set!

Thanks Darcy. :D

I knew I'd get help if I asked here!!!!

Does anyone know what European electricity is supplied by? 210 volt? I want to double check before I buy one of the kettles.
My hands are so sweaty from looking and stressing over this little thing.
My head hurts from all the searching. You guys made it easier.

I may have to order some tea from that website. I LOVE tea. My husband hates it. Funny to hear he's going to serve it.
This is for Europe, right?

I think I'll get this too:
http://turkishtaste.stores.yahoo.net/turteagset.html

I just hate that it's so cheap (glasses). Doesn't make me feel confident, but they're the only decent ones I can find since the other ones come with things he doesn't need. He won't have a stove or microwave.

I'm also going to buy tea from the site you provided.
That set is very nice...

Here's an interesting "tea-ware" site I found...

That set from turkishtaste stores looks good -ok for men.

I have one of those tea makers where you put the loose tea and hot water together - and put it over a cup and drains after it steeps. It works great! I got it at a shop called Teavana at the Mall of America several years ago. It was definitely worth the money. I love exotic teas!
Yeah, I was thinking that if I just got a kettle for hot water, he could use it for ramen noodles, etc.

Would you think this would be useful too? Unless someone says something, I guess I should order one of these.

I hate to say this, but shouldn't he be able to find a really appropriate tea set in country, pay nothing for shipping and probably a lot less for the set to begin with?

Can you send him some Dinars or Dollars instead?
I think the adapter plug is a good idea either way, it would probably come in handy...
Thanks Willowsprite. I am clueless to what to buy. I will get it.

Ron, I would think the same thing. He can't leave the green zone. They have some people come to them to sell stuff, but I'm guessing soldiers don't typically want tea sets. I have no idea. I feel needed/good when he tells me he needs something though. Gives me a chance to do something for him which relieves some stress. Although finding the crap causes stress. I'm guessing he just doesn't have time. He just got back from a 2 wk mission "somewhere" ...and has only been back a day, and he's off for another one. You'd think he'd be able to find food too since they have a PX, but he said where he is now... there is no food. Just Iraqi stuff and MRE's. He's begged me twice already to send food because he's starving. A poster on here was nice enough to send him a package of goodies, but I still haven't got mine out to him. :?
Yey L!! Glad it helped!! I love those glasses! I couldnt find any of those...who helped you with those??

Its great to have friends that A. Love to shop and B. Know how to find it on the computer!!

If you ever want to talk shoes and clothes....Im your girl! :D
I have one, but my husband got it for me in one of the shops in Turkey. :( I wish I could help out more.
Wonder if you could order from UK store and have them ship to husband. That way the electric needs would be correct??

What does military say about sending food from here? What do they suggest and how long does it take? Anything now would arrive post Christmas, right?
Things usually take 10-14 days to get there. I think things will arrive before Christmas up until the first week of December. I know my packages in the past never had a problem. The wives have just sent off their HALLOWEEN packages.

As far as foods, they recommend only sending store-bought cookies because home-made ones have a reputation for arriving all crumbled ...and sometimes old/stale. It always depends on the cookie and how you pack it. I've talked to many husbands who said they ain't every single crumb.

The mail basically prefers snacks that can last a long time. I have always sent what I wanted and just been good about wrapping it. Generally wrapping it in a ziplock bag and then surrounding it with bubble wrap. The ziplock bag can later be used by the soldiers to save their food cause you know they'll just leave it open and it'll go stale.

All the guys share everything they get because there are some guys who don't get anything. ...especially batteries, dvd's, food, toiletries, books, and encouraging letters. I am always working on packages, and my husband passed them out to single soldiers during his last tour.

They just say no liquids, alcohol, foods that will spoil, or p0rn.

The last tour my husband did, he said there was a guy who received a video of their wife with another man. :( The most common occurrence is women sending "those kind of" pictures to their boyfriends, and the men passing them around like it ain't no thang. Sad and pitiful if you ask me.
If you look up my husband's name on google, he comes up in a few news articles. His mom got all her friends to send toys, clothes, soccer balls, and school supplies. I mean boxes and boxes and boxes ...and boxes. His company passed it out to all the children. They had so much stuff that they gave some of the stuff to other units to pass out. Very well received! I don't know if he'll do that this time or if he'll be in an area where he can. His mission this time seems more dangerous.
You should be so proud of your husband. What a contribution he is making for our country.

That made me so upset that he is hungry.

Would you be open to Hannah and Copper sending him a goody box? If you are open to that, what would be his favorite snack type of food? You know Hannah and Copper's mom is a great shopper at Costco and would probably be shopping on behalf of them and of course Costco has batteries and DVD's too. Not to mention Hannah and Copper have a few coins burning a hole in their sharing fund.

So let us know if you would be OK with that. I know you would want to post the address privately but you could maybe post the wish list publicly? If it's OK that is.
I'm VERY proud of my husband. I think sometimes I forget to be proud because I'm so busy worrying about his safety. I have terrible nightmares sometimes. i can't tell him about them, so it makes it even harder because he's doing the same thing. Withholding information about what he's doing, how he's feeling, so I don't worry.

Another poster just asked me the same thing. I know he would appreciate any package he got! As far as what to send, he shares everything, so you really can't go wrong. What he likes one day is always different the next. He will eat anything in the snack section of grocery stores. Except for sheepie pics! He gets embarrassed easily, but the one thing he's ALWAYS proud of ...is his love for sheepies! I've mentioned before that everyone in his unit knows our dog. He brings her in whenever he can.

If you have the Christmas address list, he's on there (although Drezzie's mom sent out an updated address for him the other day). I'll PM you though if you're not on it.
