OES Owners in Burlington, VT area

I am thinking of getting an OES next spring however I have never actually seen an OES in person. I have done a lot of reading and research but I would like to check out an OES in person before making any big decision.

Are there any owners in Vermont specifically the Burlington area that wouldn't mind showcasing their OES?

That's a great way of starting your research!!!!

Welcome to the forum! We have lots of members from New England I'm sure others will pipe in.

If not, there's always New England OES Rescue! They can always use a person to help in transportation! :D
Yeah, I have read up a lot on the rescue and am also familar with the rescue process as I rescued two Siamese cats through the Siamese rescue process.

I would be more then happy to help out with transportation if any one ever needs help.
Great way to continue your research! I was completely unprepared the first time I saw a sheepdog in person..... when 5 fullgrown sheepdogs stampeded to the front door at the first breeder I visited just over a year ago.

Forum members in your area will likely pipe in and set up a visit with you.

Otherwise, most breeders are open to visits without expecting you to sign up for a puppy - they're happy to help you with your research. You could find a breeder in your area and set up a visit and you can also ask them lots of questions you still have about the breed.
Really good question!!!!!!!!! You're in a good area of the country to see sheepies. Others will know more than me . . .
Ok, so doesn't sound like there are many folks from my area in this forum, how about NH or the Capital area in NY or even Northern Mass?
If you want to head to Pennsylvania, you are more than welcome to visit us. Big dog show in Harrisburg this weekend and a bunch of forum people will be there. http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=10884

Make a weekend of it and come on down!!!
Hi,

There are a lot of big dog shows in Springfield, MA but you can also check out which ones will be closer to you at http://www.infodog.com/showinfo/state.htm . That way you can see how much care goes into keeping this breed in full coat. (It's usually better to talk to the show dog people after they show as there is a lot of stress involved getting the dogs ready before ring time & they probably won't let you pet their dogs.) Rick Tocco, is a very nice breeder that lives in upstate NY & I'm sure he wouldn't mind you going out to visit his dogs. You can find him & other breeders in your area here on the Old English Club of America web site. http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ferral.htm

As Ron said, you are so close to the New England OES rescue that I'm sure you could hook up with one of the members up there as well.
I don't know how recent your post is but Rexleigh and I go to work in Granville, NY near Wells Vt and we would be more than happy to show off the breed for you. I have had two OES, Rex is a rescue and the nicest dog ever. Email me if you want to visit us!

I still haven't met an OES in person so I would love to vist yours sometime. I'll take a look at my calendar for the next couple of months to see if I can find some free time.
I'm in Massachusetts, near the NH border and would love to have you meet my two boys anytime.

Thanks for all the replies. With the hockey season coming to a close I am finally able to get away for a road trip so I am going to head to Cranberry Hill Kennel in Mass on either Sunday or Monday to check out some sheepies.
Say "HI" to Kathleen! She fostered Mulligan for NEOESR. :hearts:
Wonderful! Have fun, and pictures please!
I've returned from Cranberry Hill Kennels and have posted a few pictures of the litter eating as well as a picture of the mom and another sheepie that Kathleen owns. It was a great experience. It's not everyday you get to meet 7 Sheepdogs ranging from just under 1 years old to 12 years old in all different levels of coat, not to forget 6 7 week old puppies too.
Oh, that's great that you finally got to meet some sheepdogs in-person. Even better that you got to meet sheepdogs of all different ages. It's important to remember those cute little puppies grow into big dogs with a lotta coat! I'm especially glad you were able to meet at least one senior.

I hope you were able to get answers to lots of questions, but of course if you have any more don't hesitate to ask!

Can't wait 'till those pictures are approved! :)
Looks like the pictures are now approved and published.
:D :D It looks like you got to see lots of sheepies, and a variety of them too!
So, what did you think??? :)
Let's just say I didn't want to leave. All the sheepies were well behaved and extremely loving. We are currently contemplating purchasing one of the remaining males. I should know in a day or two if we are going to pick one up. The puppies are going to be ready to go on March 10th.

The breeder was very helpful and answered every question we had for her and also asked us questions to determine if we could provide a good home for one of her sheepies.
That sounds like you had a good time. :D :D

Congrats on the possible new family member!
Did she take you on a trip to the local State Park with her throng of dogs?

It's the greatest thing to see her with pretty darned good voice control over most of them some of the time. LOL

Just kidding - they are all well behaved! It is amazing!
No unfortunately we were limited to a in home tour of her dogs. We didn't make it to her house until 6pm and it was quite cold out anyway on Sunday. All the same it was still a great experience.
Well we made our big decision based on our visit to Cranberry Hill Kennel last Sunday and we are going to purchase one of th e male puppies. The big day is going to be March 10th. Now we must start the name game. :D And all the shopping for goodies of course.
Yay! That's wonderful!

:clappurple:

How about naming him Ron?
Sorry to disappoint but I don't think Ron made the list.
 Aw, puppies!

Congratulations!! You're starting an unbelievably fun journey!!
I'm excited for you!
Congratulations on your decision! The sheepie is a great breed. Love the pix you posted from the breeder....is that a cat in the crate?

So what names are you thinking of? You sure have alot to do in a few weeks! Good luck.
If anyone is thinking of getting an OES in the Vermont area and wants to check out our 3 sheepies, please let me know. They are awesome, funny, smart and two of them are huge guys.
