Importance of a 5-Point Harness Carseat

This made me cry. It's a video about carseats. This happened on the same street I used to live on in College. Not the most likely place for an accident, imo. I had to watch it several times.

I was afraid to click on the link at first in fear of seeing something bad, so just so you know... this does not show the accident or anything graphic. Just tells a story worthy of hearing in my opinion.

My son was killed in a car accident last year because a senile, 78 year old woman ran a red light and hit us causing us to flip into a ditch. Kyle's seatbelt came unlatched during the roll and he was ejected. His seatbelt was later examined by several experts who determined it was faulty and told me that seatbelts regularly fail, especially in roll over accidents. I had no idea that seatbelts could fail and think that this is something everyone should be made aware of. The government also needs to be more strict about making sure the people they issue licenses to are fit to drive...

Yes, I saw this on another forum yesterday - how heartbreaking... an excellent reminder to check the safety our our children's seats.
Many police, fire and ambulance services run a FREE service where they will check your car seat for proper installation, show you how to properly secure your child in the seat and will evaluate your child's size for correct fit in their current seat or if they need another type of restraint system.

Take advantage of free offers!!! If your local stations don't offer it, they should be able to tell you who does.
That is sooo sad. We still have our kids anchored with the tether, but they did out grow the 5 point harness. I hope our seatbelts keep working....we also slip it through the seatbelt slots in the shoulder to keep it in the right position.
Yeah, we get told in briefings that the fire departments and hospitals here do it for free every day from 8-5 pm.

I was so moved by the video that I plan on buying the Britax they recommend for kids up to 80lbs when lil J outgrows his current carseat. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about the video and her son being tossed out of the car. Just thinking about what it was like to go to her dead son makes me ill.
I've seen this video several times over the past week on different sites, and it's heartbreaking.
I'm surprised (but happy) to know it's been posted on other sites. I guess nothing is surprising if it's on youtube. I only found it because it happened at my college.

It's been on my Mom boards - there's ladies in there that are car seat safety technicians, so they've been spreading it around.
